I was surprised at the quality of food we received here, especially after all the great Unilocal reviews! One thing that people were right on though: the garlic naan here is very good! We also ordered a side of roti, which I found tasted like whole wheat and was not flaky and thin as I’ve come to expect. By the time we got to it, ours was pretty soggy and not much flavor. Lamb curry — the sauce was ok, but the meat tasted old… almost as if it had been frozen months ago, dethawed and then reused… It was very hard, came off in stringy chunks, and didn’t really look like or taste like lamb either. more like old beef maybe? Not good. Butter chicken — the sauce was pretty good, but the chicken was rubbery and overcooked. Granted, it was towards the end of the day when we ordered, but since its not a buffet, I would expect the food to be freshly cooked. I also found that the price was rather high for what we got as well. For a city full of good Indian restaurants, I’m not sure that I would try this place again.

Wanted to order, as I was staying at the River Rock Hotel. I called to make sure they delivered, and they did, and stated the cost of delivery and the minimum order amount. I said I would call right back as I needed to decide what to order. I called 10 minutes later and placed my order. As I was about to pay the cost to deliver changed and they said they usually even have a $ 35 minimum order for delivery. Their loss(my money) as there are plenty of other restaurants nearby and I come here for business frequently.

Food was good, mango chicken was great, but the entrance area and take out area appeared dirty.

i’ve been going to Raj for over 12 years and it’s my favourite east indian restaurant. so much so that i can’t really go anywhere else because the flavours are just not well balanced and i end up comparing everything to Raj. the food is perfectly spiced and salted, it’s super fast to the table, great prices and while the interior is not anything to write home about, the food more than makes up for the surroundings. i adore the malai kofta, palak paneer and the chili mushrooms. and the garlic naan is just the cherry on the cake, yum! i go at least once a week.

I wanted to just forget about this at the time, but feel ladies should be warned. The food is good and the regular delivery guy is always quick and friendly – but, last time, much too friendly. A few months ago, I placed an order for some veg/vegan staples: aloo gobi, chana masala, palak chana. The chana dishes taste much better the next day and the aloo gobi is not bad. India Bistro on Davie and Tandoori Palace on Commercial Drive do these better, but it’s easy delivery and they’ll cook without ghee and portions are good. Like many places, though, they don’t make it spicy yet balanced enough for me no matter how many«XXs» I put in front of «Xtra Spicy.»(India Bistro does spice levels perfectly.) This particular time the delivery guy stood in my doorway, keeping my food captive, for 10+ minutes to make advances! I kept thinking, «Dude…my food is getting cold with this AC!» I thought he’d leave after a few pleasantries so I responded with patience at first. But he wouldn’t stop the chatter and hand me my food no matter how many times I motioned I was ready for him to leave by moving the door shut. Trying not to lose it, I said, «I really need to go. I’m worried my food is getting cold.» He STILL wouldn’t give it to me. He said it was nicely bundled up so I needn’t worry about that! Finally, sensing my patience was running out, he moved forward, hoping I’d step aside to let him in, but I didn’t budge. So he leaned his head against the door frame and blathered on some more, this time about how«humans are humans» and how he doesn’t care about differing ethnic backgrounds. Yeah, real subtle! When he was finally done, the food was still warm, but wasn’t piping hot anymore. Nor did I feel much like eating it now. I was ticked off I allowed that to happen because I didn’t want to be rude. But I never imagined he’d drone on for over 10 minutes in a sad attempt to invite himself in and refuse all implicit and explicit requests to leave. The food is a reliable 3.5÷5 to a bit higher on good days. Unfortunately, whenever I get a hankering for their food, I recall this and it stops me from ordering again. Ladies, be careful returning pleasantries to this one or he may never leave.

Butter naan was great. We ordered the food home. Even though at the restaurant it says free home delivery. But there is a charge of $ 10. Looks like they are charging for the past year. The guy who took the order was kind enough to ask me if I want to cancel the order because of the delivery charge. But it was late and we did not have time to cook so we ordered it anyway. So watch out for Home deliveries

Nice little find. Tucked away on a side street. Tandoori chicken was dry but the dipping sauces helped. Fast and Friendly.

WASCOMPLETELYRIPPEDOFF I just ordered from here, off of their website for delivery. my total was 53.39. After they left I thought about it, and it doesn’t make sense that my bill should be so high, so i went back onto the menu on the website, and added it up, my total should have been 40.35. I called the restaurant to speak with them about it, and all they kept saying was«its an old menu» If your website menu states a price and people order off of it, then you charge them more(13 dollars more) is that not the same as stealing? They did not even offer to fix it with restaurant credit or anything. I will be reporting this

Ordered delivery for the long weekend Monday — Prompt service, generous portions, and the butter chicken wasn’t all sauce — there was at least a chicken breast worth of meat in it, with proper spicing. Aloo Gobi was tasty, and the naan hit the spot. Only thing that was meh was the Pakora didn’t travel well; but that’s more of a function of deep fried anything and travel time rather than food quality. That said, I got a lot more pakora than I was expecting — generous serving size, worth the money. I’ll be ordering again.

Just amazing food here! We were very impressed. We just moved to the area and have tried multiple East Indian restaurants and so far this is the best. We decided to do pick up. 45 min wait. Not so bad. I will definitely be returning soon!

Mmmm garlic naan. Need I say more? I’m a total fan of their garlic naan. When paired with the butter chicken, it’s a match made in heaven. Prices are a bit higher for Indian restaurants in this area, but the quality is there. The portions of their curry seemed small at first, but boy, were they filling. We ordered the butter chicken and lamb vindaloo with steamed rice and garlic naan. Everything was so good. The lamb was a bit dry and the vindaloo was more tangy than expected. Still, taste was great. Even though they had white table cloth settings, they used their take out menu for dine in as well. Service was sparse and casual, but friendly. Overall, a good experience.

Decent food but delivery took an hour and a half and they charged me $ 8 for delivery. I don’t mind the cost but be upfront about it, will go elsewhere next time.

So good. So so good. We ordered garlic naan(seriously order it every time. It was perfect), lamb curry, chili chicken, and chicken Biryani. Everything was delicious and authentic Indian. I love lamb curry, normally its one of the more expensive dishes, but I was excited to see it was the same price as their chicken dishes! I was inhaling it, the gravy was thick and so good with the naan. The only thing I didn’t like as «love» was the Biryani only because they put bell peppers in it which was an overwhelming flavor and normally shouldn’t be in this dish. Maybe order it without the bell peppers? We ordered through and it was a $ 10 charge, so be wary when getting delivery.

Called for a pickup order and told me that the food would be ready in 25 minutes, I told them that if I can pickup at a specific time and they were able to accommodate. The food was hot, fresh and so tasty! They never disappoint. Tandoori Raj is my go to for great Indian food… always.

Order took 1.5 hours to arrive and then there was a $ 8 delivery charge! That’s bs. Maybe they should tell you that when you order. I will be contacting the owners directly

Sunday night delivery arrived warm and tasty — The Mango Chicken was a delight, and the vegetarian Aloo Gobi brought just the right amount of spice.

Ordered for delivery on a Friday night. Took about an hour, but the food was still hot and fresh. Portions are huge, we totally over ordered, thinking they’d be the same size as at New Novelty last month. Don’t know if it’s a takeout vs eat in thing, but it was a nice surprise. Ordered: Fish pakora Vegetable Jalfaezi Chili Chicken Fish Masala Rice & naan We were able to specify heat level for each dish. Everything was tasty, and all the veggies were nicely cooked, not too mushy, not too hard. Would definitely return.

Indian cuisine has long been a favorite and it was here in Vancouver where I was truly able to exploit my love for it. Whether it was curry time or veggie delights in Surrey or classic establishments in Vancouver proper, which Tandoori Raj is definitely of the latter. Having been around for just under the last 25 years, this restaurant is among the city’s most well known. Tandoori Raj is smaller than it looks, but there is plenty of seating in their clean and quaint décor. It’s been a quiet virtually every time I’ve been, the crowds haven’t been an issue and I’ve never had a wait. It’s easy to eat in a group here and the service hasn’t always been the quickest, but they’ve certainly been among the friendliest. The palak(spinach) variations here are fragrant and fresh, which differentiate themselves well versus the creamier saag. Chicken is probably the most versatile protein and whether its sitting in jalfrezi, makhani, or even roasted tandoori style — it’s all very tasty. If you’re going to hit up my favorite meat, which happens to be lamb, give it a shot with vindaloo or bhuna gosht. I need to get on the seafood bandwagon the next time I’m here. Considering many Indian spots charge an arm and a leg for entrees, the $ 9 – 12 price tag doesn’t seem so bad. The part where I knock off a star is for their modest portion size for a la carte. The presentation in the bowls seem standard across many spots, but the folks and I are always compelled to order more because we’re not exactly full. That said, the food is good and return visits are definitely in order.

What a classic, family-run for decades here; wonder if they’ve gotten more business since their competitor just around the corner, Tandoori King, burned down about a year ago. Anyways I digress… it’s good butter chicken, but didn’t find their garlic naan bread as yummy as Sitar’s…not enough garlic for one, and a bit dry too, which can be a good thing, less oil ;) It’s actually considered a bit more higher-end casual, as they do use white table cloths, so it’s a nice touch in this area; not saying it’s rowdy or anything, but with an autobody shop next door, and car dealerships along Marine Drive, one wouldn’t expect this. They deliver too. Plenty of free, side street & Fraser parking.
