Very good veggie burger and hard cider! Brought some family here for an early lunch for an early thanksgiving and it was amazing!

I have tried many of the restaurants around the Dunbar area, and have passed up this place without a second thought many, many times. Honestly I wasn’t even sure if pubs let in people under 18(pretty dumb of me). But I gave it a shot anyway and not expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised. Due to some deal they had going on, a burger + fries was $ 10. The burger patty was very juicy and the fries were well-seasoned and plentiful. For sure worth the $ 10. Not bad — don’t let the pub atmosphere drive you away from the decent food.

Great community bar to visit if you’re too lazy to go elsewhere. Fair prices, good food, and great service!

I tried their 29th ave burger with fries. The fries is ok, but the ground beef burger is unacceptted. very causal place and good for hanging out with friends. The service is very professional and wonderful. Someone said they have overhead heaters. When I stay there I feel good while other place are a little bit cold for me it’s a really good place in the hood and I will keep visiting but never try that burger again!

Just in for drinks, good to have a casual, unpretentious local pub in the hood. Layout is split with sit down on the left, and the bar on the right. Patio seating will be fun in the summer. Not the world’s most attentive or friendly service, took a while for her to get over. Right now, they’ve got a pair of tickets for Canucks game, just by writing your name and cell number on back of your bill. I didn’t bother, why waste my time of mediocre entertainment…

I have been here with my girlfriend and for the most part the service is adequate, you can tell students work there so we take that into consideration. We went today though and the waitress made an unpleasant experience. She gave no introduction and went straight to our orders, and maybe its just me, but I appreciate friendly dialogue. She rarely checked up on us to see how we were doing. We ordered our food and it did arrive quickly, which was the one good thing. When we finished we asked for the bill and we had waited 20 minutes before anyone decided to being a machine. I raised my hand for her, and the waitress literally gave us a stink eye and looked away. My girlfriend then said«excuse me!» in a loud voice and she still turned away. I had to get up and pull her over and tell her to give us a machine and she responded with a very fake apology. The owner is nice and has good service himself. It’s a shame that some of his staff don’t come close to matching his quality of service and good attitude.

This is a great example of a local pub. Is it an amazing gem worth crossing the city for? No. But that’s the the point, and for being your neighborhood go-to, I think it serves its purpose. I love the patio, the service was great(at least for me, despite what other reviewers have said), and the pub good was as good as any pub food. I’ll be back, since, you know, it’s close.

Read some not so great reviews, but thought we’d try anyway cause we were in the area and the Patio looked nice. SO glad we did! The staff was amazing, so friendly and fast, not sure if maybe who the other reviewers were talking about but maybe they have cleaned house here… All the servers and bartender were inviting and helpful. The Suggestions they made for us to try were so good. The manager came and checked on all the tables, wasn’t just sitting in a corner… You could see it was a real team effort. We came in after the fireworks, and it was a little busy so you could see the manager was stepping up to make sure no one was being neglected. We will definitely come back again! Thanks guys found a new place to hang out. Gonna come back for Happy Hour — Prices for that look GREAT

we had arguably the most overpriced, and worst tasting, meal in vancouver in quite some time at the dunbar public house. frozen yam fries drizzled with balsamic reduction was«interesting» but not at $ 7 a plate. the nachos were horrific, they tasted like something a drunk college student made after a night of partying. most of the cheese wasn’t melted, they forgot the jalapeños, the portion was small, the salsa was from a jar, and it was grossly overpriced. it could have been the worst nachos I’ve eaten in recent memory. maybe the owners should try eating them, and see if they’re worth $ 16 a plate. 1664 blanc on tap at over $ 8 a pint too. I would avoid this place unless you feel like throwing money away. unfortunately, theres not too much else in the area, so you’re really better off venturing elsewhere.

Came here incidentally after another restaurant we wanted to go to was a 45 minute wait. There were people seated by the window when we were looking for parking but by the time we walked in, we were the only ones there. They have a nice patio that would be great during warmer weather. Even though we sat inside, the sun was shining in and it definitely made me reminisce on the summer. We looked at the lunch menu and nothing particularly stood out — typical pub fare. Luckily it was still brunch time and we ordered the chorizo skillet. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much but when it came out it was quite good. The eggs were poached right, the potatoes had a nice golden crisp and texture, and it was not too greasy. Overall, it was better than we initially expected. I wouldn’t rush back here to try the rest of the menu but it would be a good hangout as they have TV’s to catch the game, a decent drink menu and daily specials. Oh and service was fast and friendly :)

Wow, I must have been at this restaurant at the same time as DB. We had the same air head waitress that said their special of the day was a veggie burger and«way too hoppy beer!» She then proceeded to crank Frank Sinatra’s «I Did it My Way». I think the pub may have a better chance of surviving if the owners didn’t let her serve customers«her way!!!» I agree with DB, Willie Degel could make a comedy series with this waitress.

6 or 7 visits in the books to this place and I finally had to write a review. This is not a good pub. The service was worse then I have ever experienced anywhere today. Other visits were also lackluster. Went there for lunch, ordered a pitcher and a couple burgers with a buddy. The waitress did not submit our food order and refused to accept that we didn’t say«I’ll have the burger — TWICE» more then 30 minutes later. Instead of apologizing, she gave us the skank eye — like 6 times. And then said something to the cook, who had to come out to take a look at the show. WTF kind of service is that? I was looking around for the hidden camera prank. Sadly the joke was on us. We had to go back to the office full of beer and no food. I recommend Restaurant Steakeout get your asses over there promptly, because there’s some pretty good material waiting to be filmed. Everyone else, well… go somewhere else.

I come here quite often because my boyfriend lives down the street, and we always enjoy it. The menu is rather small, but its reliable. The majority of the time the service is fast and friendly. I’ll definitely be a regular here until another pub with a similarly great patio and a larger menu opens up in the area.

I live in the area and come here every so often with my husband or friends. We’ve always enjoyed the service, food, and beverages. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, and their patio is great(I love places that provide blankets when it’s a little chilly out). I’m not sure why they aren’t getting better ratings, as I’ve order several different tasty items from the menu on a number of occasions. As someone who has worked in the restaurant and catering industry, I’d like to think that I have a slightly more developed pallet. I would give The Dunbar two thumbs up if you’re looking for a casual but slightly higher class pub experience.

Went here for brunch with a friend and was surprised that the place was open. I like the friendly staff, that there was free parking on the side streets, there were nice tables to sit down in, reasonable prices($ 10-$ 15), and they had coffee and your regular breakfast/brunch menu items. Tthe bonus? No lineups !!! The only thing I didn’t like was that there wasn’t a huge brunch selection to choose from. What was interesting was that I think this place might be pretty cool to check out to hang out and have a drink with friends and watch a game. They had big screens everywhere showing sports and they definitely have your drink and appy menu. Definitely have to find out.

It’s a lower-than-average local pub, but at least it’s good for drinks on the patio. Wait, no it’s not — the drinks are too expensive! Well, the patio’s ok at any rate. That, and the food tastes like defrosted Sysco fare. Seriously, you could do better if you had a patio, some patience, and a barbecue at home.

The Dunbar Social House has been serving the Dunbar neighbourhood for many years with fresh pub fare and great drinks on tap. It’s a great place for sports fans to catch a game or for locals to enjoy the delicious brunch menu on the weekends — especially on the patio when the weather is nice! We recently attended a private office holiday party there and the food was great, the premium booze kept flowing and we danced the night away to the DJ.

This place seems to do well only because there is nowhere else for the locals to turn. Well, that’s what brought me here, anyway. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. It was already terrible, but 14 dollars made it taste even worse. It actually tasted like it was from a frozen box. Ironically, I think that I paid more for this dish than had I ordered it from a high end Mexican joint(which of course, I would not have found in Vancouver, anyway). My friends ordered burgers that they seemed to enjoy, and one friend even had the risky looking ahi tuna salad which she said was good. Maybe I was just silly to order something Mexican here. Come to think of it, it might have been the same quesadilla that I ordered at «the Cheese” – but worse. Don’t go here unless you only plan to sit on the patio and order drinks.

I stopped in for dinner and drinks with a friend at the former location of Sodas Diner. In place of the chrome and bright diner interior, The Dunbar offers a more laid back, weeknight-drinks feel. The menu is very narrow, offering only a few salad selections, burgers, and sandwiches if you’re here for dinner. The slightly larger appetizer menu expanded our options and we both order quesadillas. My quesadilla was served crisp with generous sides of salsa, sour cream, and(my favorite) guacamole. I greatly appreciated the guaca-touch! The tortilla arrived crisp with a tasty veggie blend of onions, peppers, and cheese inside. Despite the scant options, I can appreciate that the food served is done well. One great thing about discovering your neighborhood is that we knew our server and got great service.
