One of our first stops during our long weekend up north. Came in during happy hour and orders some drinks and some great food. The B.C. salmon platter was great: smoked salmon, lox, crème fraiche, and a couple other goodies. Also, the rocket and watercress beetroot salad with local chèvre, pears, and walnut. Great place, friendly staff.

This restaurant is absolutely perfect. The place is big with two floors, a private room, and a bar. This place gets very packed and most of the time, you have a wait for a table. The Flying Pig is definitely a hot spot on Water Street. The menu is small but every dish is made well here. To start things off, they bring out a cute water jug and some bread. If you go here with a large group and you want to share food, they will bring your food on large serving plate so everyone can try everything. They off many specials daily and I recommend trying all their specials. The food here is very delicious. They perfect everything from steak to pork to fish. I personally love to order their side dishes. Their mac and cheese with braised beef, poutine fries with pulled pork, or lobster risotto all my favorites! The service here is great. The place is completely packed every night yet they manage to serve your food quickly and efficiently. The waiters are extremely attentive to their customers and the make your experience worth it. On a birthday, they even do a special slice of a large chocolate cake. I definitely recommend this place to everyone, great food, great service, great price:)

I came here intending to try their happy hour but was told that the wait for a table of 6 was long so we decided to try the appies and sides on their regular menu instead. We had the mushrooms, lobster risotto, pulled pork fries, bone marrow cheesy bread, salmon sampler, brussel sprouts and short rib macaroni. All the appies and sides were amazing, aside from the cheesy bread as it tasted just like regular bread. The star of the night was the mushroom — fresh, flavourful and fabulous — every one was fighting for seconds. Not once did we feel rushed as we chit chatted the night away over glasses of beautifully made and amazingly combined cocktails. This branch has two levels as oppose to Yaletown’s one level and it seems to be less of a line up. Overall, Flying Pig, you have impressed me once again. I will for sure return!

Awesome food, great service, and really nice environment for dinner! Too bad I don’t live in the Vancouver area – but I go up there often enough that I’ll definitely be back to try happy hour! We got some beer and cider to start, along with the pulled pork poutine, which was DANK. Being part Canadian myself, I love me some poutine and I’ve had a lot, and the poutine here definitely gets two thumbs up from me. My dinner buddy got the blackened steelhead trout, which was super tender and tasty – and so was the pasta it came with. I had the braised beef short rib, which was super flavorful and melts in your mouth. Honestly, I ordered it for the marrow, which did not disappoint. The mashed potatoes it came with were perfect for mopping up all the delicious sauce! Our server was super cool and it was just a great meal overall. I guess pigs do fly!

HAPPYHOURREVIEW: We got there at 5:00pm. Was seated by 5:15pm. Server came by less than a minute later with water and drinks order. We ordered the house red and white($ 4.75 each). The drinks came at 5:20pm, and that is also when we placed our food order. We weren’t too hungry so we only ordered 3 dishes. All the food arrived at 5:28pm. Steamed clams: one dish contains about 15 clams. The clams were steamed well. The broth, however, was mediocre. Beef carpaccio: while it tasted fine, there was nothing stands out or stunning about it. Salmon cakes: very good. The smoked salmon top was a nice flavour additive. The cake was juicy and full of flavour and the outside is nice and crispy. Server was attentive and courteous. We ordered the happy hour beer just to try. Tastes OK. Overall, we give it 2.5÷5, rounded up to 3. Food was 3⁄5 as we find nothing special about it. Service was 4⁄5. Had we have to pay full price for these dishes, we would’ve given it 2⁄5. The hubs didn’t find the food memorable at all and we will likely not go back.

Came for a NYE dinner. The Pork Rack with poutine and jalapeño creamed corn were amazing. A little disappointed with the cheesy marrow bread. This place is amazing. I will definitely return my next time in Vancouver.

I liked the atmosphere of Flying Pig, but none of the food stood out enough that I’d come back. * Bacon bourbon Caesar — $ 8.75 Creamy and a bit too sweet * Wild seafood pappardelle — $ 15.5 Probably my favorite out of the things we tried * Jumbo macaroni with braised beef short rib and Cabernet mushroom cream sauce — $ 14.5 The sauce was kind of bland. The dish was overall not very appetizing. A couple of people at the table got this, and one dish was much darker than the other. Maybe this dish isn’t very consistent. * Jumbo macaroni with pork + beef bolognese — $ 14 Better than the other jumbo macaroni * Lobster prawn risotto with citrus + mascarpone — $ 11 This was a side but enough to eat as a small entrée. * Pulled pork poutine — $ 7.5 One of the better dishes. Very cheesy.

Delicious banana bread starter that is literally the meal highlight. The other offerings are solid but slightly overhyped. My Cobb salad was good but very skimpy on the meat portions and the pulled pork 4 cheese rigatoni was just okay. The pasta tasted like any other pasta and did not live up to the hype. The waitress who attended to us initially definitely had an attitude problem but our actual server was very friendly and helpful. Overall, it’s okay but not the best, by a long shot.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars for its beautiful layout and just very cute. First, I am from the USA and came to Canada to visit for a few days. Not very accustomed to the way Canadians treat people. However, upon being seated we were asked what we wanted to drink. I wanted to sample their Pilsner and Amber while everyone else ordered what they wanted to drink. Later, the waitress came back and asked what I wanted to drink again and I said I just wanted a sample but she told me in her own words, «this is not a bar, we don’t give samples. Only bars do that.» After her responses I told her I didn’t want anything to drink and will just drink what my boyfriend ordered. Later, she came back and asked if we wanted to eat anything and we told her we didn’t want to eat and just wanted to drink. She told us that we couldn’t sit where we were seated and took away all of our utensils and plates and basically, kind of kicking us out in a way. I did not like the service that was provided and how all the plates and utensils were removed from the table because we told them we didn’t want to eat. We are Americans and came to Canada to visit and expected some kind of courtesy and kindness but we definitely did not get that from the restaurant. I find they are rude and not very friendly to non native Canadians.

There are three locations in Vancouver: Yaletown, Gastown and one in Mount Pleasant. We wanted to try some Canadian food, and chose the one in Gastown. It was packed when we got there, and we were on the waiting list. There was a couch on the side, where you can also drink while waiting. They also do have a full bar. We got to try some of their Canadian beers, as well as Jameson on the rocks. Of course, we had to try their pulled pork poutine! It was so cheesy and lots of pork, very delicious! It gets you full fast. We also ordered the B.C. Salmon Sampler – great for people who love salmon. The fish was prepared in three different ways. The crispy Brussels sprouts was also flavorful – it had a spicy kick. This place gets really busy, but our server was very attentive. The table we got was so small!!! Everything we order barely fit. Other than that, a great restaurant to try when you visit Vancouver!

Went here with a couple good friends who were visiting Vancouver for Thanksgiving! Even though we missed out on the turkey special, the staff was so welcoming and whipped up an alternative festive dish for us! Absolutely loved the flavours and the portion was more than enough to keep my belly happy! Would definitely come back soon to try out their regular menu items and their beautiful wine list!

Very disappointed after hearing our hotel say this place was great. Arrived, were wait-listed and told that we couldn’t wait our 30~ mins there — had to leave due to space issues. Sent to bar across street which had a 6 $ cover charge. Found a non-cover charge place 2 doors up. Thinking TFP could have told us that? They do call you when your table is ready. At least one of us had a phone! Sweet young waiter recommended Brussels and the fish options(both of us had first choices that he said were not as special as the fish ones). Brussels arrived and were extremely over-salted! Ugh. Crispy and Parmesan did come thru but the salt was killer. Fish dishes came literally moments after the app — very weird and poor kitchen control — and we pretty much took one bite, and asked each other«How’s yours???» There was something weird about both pieces of fish. Bland, undercooked… they ended up taking them away and delivering to us new dishes — we both ordered land animals this time! Those were«ok» but certainly not epic. The manager tried to get us specifically to identify the flaw, felt a little like due diligence versus honest care, but given the hundreds of patrons there I’m quite sure he was already over worked. A huge piece of «chocolate cake» came for a birthday treat for me. It was yellow cake with fudge frosting. The bottom of the cake was very cold, i.e. deep freeze, and the cake dry, frosting much like you’d find in a jar(which is yummy mind you…). We ate the cake regardless! I also had a cappuccino and wasn’t surprised the espresso tasted burnt. By this time we were really ready to get out of there. Waiter comped the Brussels and the cake, but the overall taste in our mouthes was unhappy! Bummer for last night in Vancouver!

Service is great! Food is great! This place is amazing, but beware, it’s REALLY heavy food. You will get a food coma! We ordered mac and cheese, poutine and a porkchop plate to share and wow, everything was cooked to perfection. The pork was really tender and juicy and I was kinda sad that I had to share. Wish I could have it all to myself. The mac and cheese was also a really great creamy consistency. But since the food was so thick and heavy, I barely touched ¼th of everything… Thankfully we had 2 guys who were hungry and could eat a lot who helped us finish the food.

Came here with a group(consisted of 6 people). It was my first time trying The Flying Pig restaurant. I ordered the salmon entrée and tried the crab cake. It was good. The seating wasn’t the most comfortable, we kind of waited ten minutes even though we had a reservation. Good western food selection, wait staff was kind.

Flew up from Seattle to try this place as a recommendation from a family friend. I was blown away at the great customer service, beautiful café atmosphere and the delicious food. Had the lobster/shrimp risotto and roasted brussel sprouts for lunch accompanied with a perfectly made cappuccino. Highly recommend this gem of a find in the Gastown district of Vancouver. It will surely not disappoint. I’ll most definitely be back! : – )

The Flying Pig offers ‘Appy Hour every day between 4pm and 6pm at all of their three locations in Vancouver(Gastown, Yaletown & Village). I met my friend N around 430, which was kind of awkward time for dinner, but the perfect timing for Happy Hour! So, we decided to try Flying Pig nearby. The Flying Pig Gastown location is only about 5 minutes away from Waterfront Skytrain Station, and one minute away from the Gastown steam clock! I personally love this area :) Their ‘Appy Hour menu selection is not extensive, but still good enough to try different small items. $ 6 per dish is very affordable, and the portion is not too bad. Beer and house wine are only $ 4.75. TFP Lager($ 4.75) Beef Carpaccio($ 6) was pretty good to start the meal — light, small appetizer. It had a few thin slices of beef, topped with crostini, fresh greens, dijon aioli, capers and garlic. Steamed Clams($ 6) was cooked in flavorous broth, white wine and herbs. Crispy Salmon Cakes($ 6) were a bit fishy, but I liked its perfectly deep-fried breading. Very crunchy and crispy, and went well with the housemade tartar sauce. Beef Short Rib Croquette($ 6) had a decent amount of short ribs with mashed potatoes. Truffled Jumbo Macaroni($ 6) was better than I expected. It’s not the normal junky macaroni & cheese! A few drops of truffle oils make this dish wonderfully flavourful and rich, especially when it’s covered with extra 4 cheese cream sauce! Ummmmm Sriracha BBQ Chicken Drumstick($ 6) wasn’t my favourite but N loved it because of strong BBQ sauce. It came with two celery sticks and parmesan basil dip. We both agreed that the chicken was a bit over-cooked as the meat was tough and hard. ordered the Wild Seafood Pappardelle and the T.F.P Signature Pork Rack and for the appetizer, we got the B.C. Salmon Sampler. The BC Salmon Sampler was delicious. I really liked the fact I get to try the different Salmon prepared in different ways. The Seafood Pappardelle was really delicious and the portion was pretty good. It has the right kick to it. Not really considered spicy though. The T.F.P. Signature Pork Rack was the most disappointing dish. I didn’t expect the pork to taste like ham and also it was very chewy. The poutine that came with it was really good though and with lots of pull pork. Not to mention, it was sure filling. The décor was nice. I liked the atmosphere. Its a really trendy restaurant in Gaston. On top of that its a very convenient location as well. Only issue is there are no free parking. One thing that I didn’t like was that once you are done with all your water, they don’t really refill it. I asked for a refill and they took the bottle and never bought it back. Oh well, we were pretty done anyways. But I sure needed that one or two sip of water before leaving. As a note this place doesn’t take reservation. So it is first come first serve.

I just got off of the plane and needed food immediately. After checking into a hostel and putting all my stuff down, I went straight to Flying Pig. I arrived around 4:30pm during their Happy Hour, however, the entire HH area was booked. All good. I sat in the restaurant area and had myself an awesome meal. I tried their Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib with Bone Marrow and mashed potatoes. The food came out piping hot and it was so tender. It could have used a bit more flavor, but it was still quite tasty overall. The service here is fantastic as well. I might go back once more to try more dishes.

We enjoyed another very tasty meal at The Flying Pig! We knew we had to come back after such a great meal here last year, so after running the Seawheeze half marathon we stopped at a couple bars and ended at The Flying Pig for an early dinner. It was going to turn into happy hour while we were there, but we were pretty set on the meal we wanted. We were seated almost immediately in a small window alcove which was super quaint and cozy. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We had a bottle of rosé which was nicely chilled and very tasty. We had the meat and cheese plate for 2, which was a great start to the meal. Boyfriend had the short rib with mashed potatoes and bone marrow. I think I could have rolled him out of there. It was rich, decadent, and everything he wanted. I had the fish which was served with a lobster risotto and vegetables. The fish was cooked well, but I was disappointed that I never found any pieces of lobster in the risotto. We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts, which unfortunately didn’t arrive until we were almost finished with our entrées. Overall not quite as awesome as the first time, but the standards were set super high. I’d still return if I come back to Vancouver!

Had our eye on Flying Pig for happy hour and caught the tail end of it one night during our stay in Vancouver. The happy hour menu sounds quite yummy and delicious but we were both disappointed by what we ordered. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? FOOD: — cured meats — you get three kinds and only one measly slice of each! Which is funny because they give you about 6 slices of bread. Too much bread, not enough meat. — salmon cakes — 3 good sized cakes, but definitely on the dry side. The sauce that comes with it helps. — beet salad — there was more arugula than there were beets :( — beef carpaccio — flavor was pretty good, but so so thin, so the portion was actually pretty small. From our window facing seats, we saw other diners and their food and the chicken drumsticks and mussels looked much better portions and pretty yummy. We should’ve gotten those instead! HH beer was very refreshing. SERVICE: Can’t complain. Our server was friendly, our food came out quickly and we were checked on during our meal. They even do a big«hear ye hear ye» announcement for HH last call! VENUE: Very nice! Small outdoor patio area, the bar/lounge side was pretty full for HH and the restaurant side started filling up as we ate. Bathrooms are clean, but extremely narrow(at least for the womens) Glad we satisfied our curiosity, but Flying Pig won’t be on our must eat list if we come back to the city.
