My friends and i’s preferred neighborhood hangout. Bar staff are great and know their stuff, best of all they’re all ladies(girl power!). Fab drink specials.

The food here is pedestrian pub fare, absolutely nothing to impress. Why 4 stars then? Because this just might be the best neighbourhood pub we have int this area. Recently the Stormcrow moved in and showed promise,… but it is quite busy and noisy. From the door this place looks fancier than it is and from the inside, especially the back, it really is a col looking place and less«shiny» than I thought. This IS the place for a drink, to hang out, and to maybe have a bit of food if you are really hungry. Prices aren’t bad for a Granville St. location. I’d been tipped off to this place when I moved to this this area 4 years ago,. it took me this long to go but I bet I’ll be back for a second time much sooner.

Excellent ambience from the minute you walk in. Has a classic European bar feel without being pretentious. The most important thing at Marquis is that the bartenders know what they’re doing. Every cocktail myself or others in my group got were delicious. Some of them went the«surprise me» route and got a drink that was perfect. This could very well become the usual after-work hangout.

I’ve been here twice, and I’ve really liked their service and ambience. The Marquis is some how intimate and not-too-casual-but-sort-of at the same time. Basically, if you don’t want to go to the Coppertank and the Pourhouse is just too expensive, the Marquis is the middle-ground. I’ve never ordered food here. The Apple Martini is definitely strong. The best drink here is the Moscow Mule! Absolutely delicious. Whether you sit at the bar, or at a table, the employees are friendly and pretty attentive. But if you want faster service, I suggest sitting at the bar!

Came for dinner before a show this Friday… service was friendly and fast. The food reviews were split among our party. Burger and fries were fantastic! Fries are like homemade, would come back just for those. Son said rib dinner was ok. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon. It was luke warm and looked and tasted as my husband said«Campbell’s chunky soup». I was a bit disappointed that my costly dinner was the least yummy. My dad ordered the lentil soup, it too was barely warm. The restaurant is small and busy, not good if your claustrophobic. My chair was wobbly as were the two I tried to trade it with. I would go back but would order just the burger and fries. Service was really good and friendly. That counts for a lot!

We like this place. Friendly staff. Cool retro bar with wood panelling and vintage chrome and curved ceilings. Much cozy feel yet still modern. Fantastic, fabulous, gorgeous.

I’m sure I will update this in a week or two and give it 5 stars, but I went here for the first time this week and it was amazing! Great cocktail bar with amazing food. Good selection or bar food, snacks, and mains. Don’t let the name«Grill» put you off, this is a hip, happenin’ joint! Cocktail culture is king here, with a sophisticated cocktail menu and beers from around the world. We had the nachos to share and a few cocktails too. Great service, food was fast, and ambience was chill and cool. I haven’t been here when its quiet, it was extremely busy when I went… so will try it again soon.

Went back again on Friday. They have a new food and drink menu which is FANTASTIC. Good job. We got Lauren as our server and she is absolutely perfect. It was packed yet she was so attentive, calm, and just all-around awesome. We ordered several of there new contacts and they were easily drinkable, great flavours, and super creative. We also had the progress which… get this… FRESHLYSCRATCHEDMADE! You have no friggin idea… but you should! Fries were also ordered to accompany the shots. Classic fries. Seriously, check out this place. The service is the absolute best and they seem to continuously amaze me!!!

Comfortable environment, very friendly staff even let my indecisive partner sample the beer before ordering. Food was good and freshly prepared. Felt like a place you’d be welcomed back.

It’s amazing that I never knew this place existed as apparently it’s been around for quite some time! We were there for dinner on a Friday night and the great thing is that they do take reservations before 8pm and it was easy to get calling the same day! You can tell this place has a lot of regulars. The crowd is a really big mix from young to older with lively conversation and a nice vibrant atmosphere. The seating is comfortable and the service is friendly and casual. They have a really good selection of bar bites(we tried the yorkshire puddings, spinach and artichoke dip, mac & cheese, calamari, tempura tuna bites) and we also had a couple mains(Cranberry Apple Pork Loin and Jambalaya) and everything was good. Nothing I’m still dreaming about to go back, but good food nevertheless! The music here is good! Old school 90s R&B/Hip Hop!

Stopped here for a pre-theatre dinner a while back. I had the Yorkshire Puddings. They were a little dry but I’d give them another chance to see if they can do better. Our server was fun & friendly. Drink specials were good value, $ 3.25 for a rum & coke on the day we were there. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen in the city where we’re demanded to pay double the amount. It’s not a place with a patio so it will be more of a winter haunt for me.

My friend and I visited Marquis on Monday night as it is located handily between my home and her work. It was fairly busy for a Monday, but I definitely felt that service could have been faster and more friendly — I always try and have some rapport with my server(although I totally get some people just don’t want to chat!), but our server had no interest in talking, and came over to check on us very rarely. That said, you really can’t beat $ 3.25 drinks! The highballs were fine — nothing special, just your typical bottom shelf booze, but we weren’t looking for craft cocktails here, just something to cheers with while we caught up. We were also ravenous by the time we arrived and promptly(tried to) order food(that took a while). We shared the perogies with the additional«spicy» chorizo, the«spicy» jerk chicken flatbread, and the fries with«spicy» jalapeño ketchup. You may have noticed some quotation marks there — when I see the word«spicy» on a menu, I do expect a certain level of tingle in my mouth. Bar food is rarely what I would call spicy, but my tolerance is pretty high — but honestly, there was zero spice to these dishes. The amount of chorizo with the perogies was positively meager, which added insult to injury, and the jerk chicken may well have been switched out for their Mediterranean chicken — I tasted no hint of jerk seasoning at all! And the jalapeño ketchup was unfortunately just ketchup… This place is good for a cheap drink, and maybe the food is better once you’ve consumed several of said cheap drinks, but it’s not somewhere we’ll be making a regular hangout spot.

This place was my local restaurant and I love it. The food was great, the drink specials are awesome $ 3.25 highballs and I have had pretty good service there too. They also have an amazing strawberry beer(fruli I think but it is quite sweet). I like it as a date place too. I went there twice but the location could have played a role in that. I would say definitely go there!

Rye and coke that tastes like home and the sign outside doesn’t lie rye and cokes are at Manitoba prices. It even comes in the same glass as the sharptail(home of the one box hunt!) They even have draft cocktails, like the crown float(somersby and guinness). I’ll have to get that next time. Borscht is even on the menu! Despite having what I look for in a bar(cheap rye and lots of it) is also has half back booths and old wooden tables. I’ll be back and i’m bringing reinforcements!

I was warned about the food here by some friendly folk from both CC and Joey’s. But when AC forces you to check your carry on luggage on an empty plane(not kidding) and you arrive an hour late after midnight on a weekday, pickings are slim when looking for a meal, so reluctantly, we tried it out. The place was buzzing and service was good. We each ordered a drink(wine and beer; both fine) and I settled on the infamous perogies. Of course, they were deep fried as all frozen, tasteless perogies are done nowadays(sigh) which is not how to serve a perogy. But they were fine. The polish sausage add on was decadent but pretty tasty, actually. The sour cream and onions helped, too. We were recommended to try the flatbread pizza, and unbeknownst to us, it also came with the same sausage. It was fine, but I would have preferred to have ordered at least one dish without sausage. It was served with a nice sized salad which made up for the miniscule sized pizza. I’m sure I could have made a doctored up frozen pizza at home just the same, but hey, it was all fine. So, if you’ve been wondering about this place for as long as I had debated trying it out, you can go and it will be exactly as you expected but with better service. It’s just a neighbourhood spot, but I’m sure it must struggle with the chain competition down the street. The atmosphere was certainly quaint, but unfortunately, the food just can’t match up to those other businesses that I won’t mention here.

This review is only for the bar and the drinks — I was tempted to get the tuna tempura bites, but Vijs was calling! This place is a great choice if you want cheap drink specials and good beer/cider selection. The bartender was really friendly and service was super fast. Would go back anytime I’m in the area!

With strong $ 3.25 highballs and big $ 10 fish and chips, its hard to go wrong here. Granted, the three pieces of fish were a tad greasy to finish, but the fries were good SK it all works out!

I met a friend here for drinks only, so I can’t comment on the food, especially since I barely glanced over the menu. It was a Monday night, so the place was only about a third filled. Despite that, service was a bit spotty. There were two servers working and tending bar at the same time, one of whom was very friendly and the other of whom was quite brusque. There seemed to be some kind of problem with the taps as well, rendering beer out of the question. The décor is woodsy and leatheresque, which may give the impression of sophistication, but the atmosphere was decidedly low-key(there were three large TVs above the bar playing sports). All of the mirrors were a bit overwhelming because I kept catching glimpses of myself everywhere I turned and getting confused, like in one of those Youtube videos with babies or animals seeing themselves in mirrors for the first time and being dumbfounded. The seating is quite snug in the main area, so I could foresee it becoming quite boisterous and noisy when full. The table next to ours could definitely overhear our conversation at lulls in their own(don’t think I didn’t notice you, guy who laughed at something I said then abruptly turned it into a cough), so it’s not the kind of place you want to go for an intimate chat. That being said — the Marquis does have a major selling point. Namely, I posted up here for 4 hours, had 4 drinks and my share of the bill came to $ 20 with a very generous tip. I doubt I’d make a special trip here for dinner and fancy cocktails, but it’s a very solid option for basic drinks with good company.

I don’t know what it is, but this little place rocks South Granville. I’ve walked by here 100’s of times, and finally for whatever reason I gave it a shot and now I’m hooked. Don’t forget to check out the drink specials outside. They have hella good drink deals. $ 3 beers, $ 3.25 gin & tonics, $ 4 Jameson, the list goes on. Best prices I’ve seen for a non-dingy place and they don’t serve crap drinks either. When you walk in the walls of mirrors creates quite the illusion of being a big place. Whether it was the alcohol or not, it kind of feels like a yacht or a wicked cool basement of a house. 1st visit I went with server’s suggestion of tempura tuna bits and classic perogies. Tuna was good, but the perogies were all star. Topped with caramelized onions and served with sour cream and feta cheese, this hit the spot. I also tried their bourbon bbq ribs last night. Fall off the bone goodness. Staff are stellar. The bartender also waited the tables, yet maintained high level of service. Open until 2am everyday except Sunday. What else do you need from a neighbourhood joint? Rock on Marquis, rock on.
