Luckily i wasn’t involved on the financial side of things here, just invited as a guest tonight as part of Lincoln’s launch of their new model sedan, MKZ. Great show, free test ride and food prepared by a famous chef and venue nicely decorated by whomever marketing firm, definitely a pro. Venue itself ain’t too bad, less than 150 people, with super high ceilings, a bit artsy w/the garage-style pane glass, slanted on an angle. Washroom really sucked, unisex and only one for this size?

When my company, needed a physical location to do a glamorous pop-up store, I contacted our friend Vernard of LuvNGrace Events and he turned me onto Joseph at The Waterfall Building. I had attended fashion shows at the building before and knew how great the building looked and how it would be the perfect image we were trying to convey. My partner and I met with Joseph one afternoon and offered what we could for one day’s rental. Joseph was very accommodating and offered many tips on how to market the space in the neighbourhood and where the best walk-by traffic would be. He also threw in use of the tables, chairs and fashion fixtures that he had on site at no cost. Very cool. When we arrived 30 minutes early to set-up the event with 30 bins of clothes, dozens of garment bags, store fixtures, and mannequins, Joseph was there with the doors unlocked and the space ready to go. He informed us of one glitch, the power in the whole building, not just the gallery but some adjacent businesses, had blown out the night before and wouldn’t be repaired until the following Monday. I stomach dropped. The bathroom and change rooms where completely blacked out. Joseph offered us access to an adjacent unused rental space with a bathroom and to use as a change room. Because there was no power, providing music for our shoppers was not happening. Joseph ran a giant power cord from an outside outlet that was on a different system and allowed us to use his music system and mixing board even though we had turned down the dj/equipment rental fee. We had beautiful natural lighting all through the day and a great turn-out. Joseph was close at hand the whole day and answered questions and helped as needed. All in all, what could have been a disaster day turned out to be very good for us and our first pop-up store was successful. So much so, we are planning another one day event in late November and hope the space will be available to us!

I recently went to a wedding reception here, and I was completely horrified! First and foremost, the acoustics were SO bad. It’s a big enough building that when it’s full, there’s no way you could hear someone without a microphone, but once the microphone is on, the sound is so bad that you can’t understand a thing they’re saying unless you become adept at lipreading. Then I got to the bathrooms. There’s not enough of them(2 single bathrooms for the whole building), and they weren’t maintained at all during the night. By the end of the evenings, there garbage can was overflowing with paper towels, and there was water all around the sink. I felt like I was at a night-club, instead of a fun, friendly wedding. But then the cherry on top of the whole experience was the farewell. Without any warning, we were told we had 10 minutes to leave the premises. I know what you’re thinking — «no one gets kicked out of a venue for no reason» — but if there was a reason, my friends and I certainly couldn’t figure it out. Yeah, there was music, but definitely wasn’t very loud. And thanks to a slower bartender, no one was that drunk. Anyways, we were told we had 10 minutes, and chaos ensued. The bride was crying, the groom was furious, and the whole time, the management of the building was standing around with smug grins on their faces. Even once all the guests helped to clear out all of gifts and leftovers, the bride had to bang on the door and tearfully beg the manager just to be allowed to go back inside and grab the wedding shoes she had changed out of to dance on her wedding night. Conclusion — I would seriously think twice about booking this venue. Especially in a city where you could book so many other superior options.

We went to the Waterfall Building for the reception after what had been an incredible wedding up to then. The management was overbearing and even threatening at times, unwilling to help and more focused on hiding away in his office instead of ensuring that a wedding party, which had paid to rent the space, was properly taken care of. Joseph MacKinnon has to be the rudest, most unfriendly person I have dealt with in recent memory. A key quote from this man to the groom on his actual wedding day, «I’m going to be your worst nightmare, tonight.» Really? So much for professionalism and proper conduct. Truly an eye-opener. Waterfall Building Events is one to avoid unless you want to spend your money to be treated with utter disrespect.

I had the pleasure of showing some of my work here last year. The venue is beautiful and unique and the owner was also extremely nice and accommodating. I would highly recommend this venue.
