Coming back from a friend’s cabin last weekend, we knew the only thing our summer was missing was a hat to keep the burn off the neck. Having once read a story about an elephant eating a hat, the name Tilley was on my mind so decided to look into it. The online store had a lot of selection but we didn’t know how the hats would fit or how they would look based on pictures alone. We decided to visit the store and get a first hand buying experience. Upon walking in, we knew it had to be a great place. The store was buzzing with people of all ages trying on various hats and talking with energetic staff. The walls showcase decades of happy clients from all over the world sporting various hats and apparel from the company. My eyes were drawn to a white and red hat on a top rack so I pulled it down and tried it on. An older man rushed over to inform me that this particular hat was not on sale as it was on display for a very special reason(Canada day in founding city a few years back). His name tag read John Tilley and low and behold we were speaking to the brother of the company’s founder. He helped us find a fit, he helped us pick styles best suited to our weirdly shaped heads and when I couldn’t find a specific set of colorful braided laces to add some spunk to the hat, he took me to the back room to show me their epic collection of laces and let me braid my own. The buying experience was a genuine pleasure from start to finish and now I can tell people that my name and telephone number were written into the underside of my new hat by a genuine Tilley. Thank you for a great experience! ** So that I don’t sound crazy, «we» refers to a friend who joined me. **

Lots of major label brand looking clothes, better prices. Came here to browse, however, nothing that interested me in buying as it wasn’t in my fashion range. great customer service and I love supporting local-ish businesses.

Their outdoor clothing totally blows MEC out of the water: I know, big statement, right?! Perhaps it’s my first time here as I didn’t know this place existed. Functionality is the #1 theme here, though security ranks a tight second. Many of their pants, jackets etc have secret inner pockets, plus even a zipper: so those pick pockets will be challenged when you’re travelling. Like the idea of zippered off sleeves to turn into a vest, same for pants/shorts, which Columbia does have too but do they have a lifetime warranty like here? :) Another bonus. Also sell Eagle Creek stuff. Men’s on the left, women’s on the right. Yes style may be considered a bit oldish but more classic if one wants it to be. Tons of tilley hats in the back wall. Audrey quite helpful. And 100% made in Canada :)

I love my Tilley hats! And I too, have three in my present collection. Tilley hats came into my life when I bought the first one(natural colour) at a small yachting-type store back in Halifax, NS, in the early-1970’s. A second one(dark blue colour), was purchased at a small men’s wear shop in Moncton, NB, in the 1980’s. The original hat was«retired» from use(in the outside world!!) a year+ ago, and was replaced by a new(natural colour) one from this Vancouver store. Although well-tattered and very stained, my original hat is still with me – it’s just that the ladies in my life refuse to let me wear it when we’re out & about! Great hats. well-made, durable, and so «highly-useable», and in so many habitat and environmental situations. My newest one is headed to the trails of Manning Park, BC soon, and I’m sure I will much-appreciate having it along!

I’m a huge fan of the Tilley Hat. I currently have 3 and the one I brought with me on my recent Earthwatch Trip(Climate Change at Arctic’s Edge with Dr. Pete Kershaw) kept me well protected from the sun, rain, and wind. I also have a very nice Tilley travel bag. The Tilley hats are of high quality and fit my relatively big head just right. They are also very durable, they float and have a life time guarantee. I have actually bought a hat from this particular store and found the staff to be very helpful and knowledgable. I have also used the web store — with excellent success. Various other stores around the US and Canada also carry the Tilley Hat.
