W H A T? Just because this place is not located right on Fourth Avenue but, rather, just around the corner on Vine Street(behind Browns), not one Unilocaler’s reviewed it yet? I’m tres shocked! On the other hand, it’s an honour to be the first to let everyone in on this eclectic little secret. In summer the store’s easily recognized by the comfy woven hammock chairs hanging from its outdoor rafters(take a seat and swing to your heart’s content!). During winter, the window displays make a compelling case for a stop-and-gawk: colourful, quirky and pattern-tastic! After that it’s just a quick step over the friendly store dog(who’s often on leash just outside the door, drinking water from a wine glass) into THE most adorable gift shop. From a quick conversation with a friendly U staffer I gleaned how owner Unity Whittaker, an avid backpacker, initially sparked a love affair with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces whilst(love that word!) travelling the world. Being completely unable to keep my wallet in my pocket I picked up the sweetest hand-painted Russian-doll keychain and seriously considered a gorg red cherry necklace by Tina Lilienthal(might go back for this honey!). Honestly, it was just fun walking slowly round the store checking out the carefully selected merchandise and thinking about all the friends I’m gonna make ecstatic when the holidays roll around!
