Driven by many times and it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but I was in need of some corn tortillas and it seemed like a safe bet. Walked inside and was a bit overwhelmed by the floor to ceiling displays of products, some well know to me, but also many mysterious South American groceries. Over all the prices seem fair and you could definitely spend a hour in there just browsing. My favourite part of the whole place is when you get to the cash register there is a large soup pot sitting on the counter. In the pot is whatever they have cooked which the sell by weight. The first time I came home with mystery meat in a plastic bag my wife was understandably skeptical. But after the first bite of what we think was pork, we were hooked. Crispy delicious outside, with a perfectly cooked center. La Colonia embodies makes Vanier great.
