I usually come to this bakery, if I’m in the area and felt like dropping by The Galleria(Korean Supermarket). Bakery Gâteau is inside the building complex of The Galleria, but outside of the market near the food court area. They have a small selection of various buns, but most of the flavours are mostly the same. Items I tried this time: 1. Sausage Donut $ 2.00 Basically a Hot Dog Bun Covered with Panko and Deep Fried. Nothing really special, but nice crunch to the exterior of the bun/donut. 2. Peanut Crunch Bun $ 1.45 I was expecting a load of peanut filling inside, but it was disappointing, nothing was inside. :(And I did not taste any peanut at all on the top. 3. Gorokke $ 2.20 Deep Fried Curry Veggie Bun. This one I get every time I go there. It’s pretty good in flavour but can be a bit greasy, but still yummy for a quick unhealthy snack: P Overall they don’t really have a big variety in my opinion. But if you do go there, try their Gorokke.

This is the place to grab freshly baked donuts, buns and cakes after buying groceries at Galleria Supermarket. My favourites are: –Sesame sticky rice donut –Pizza sausage bun –Croquette –Choco cream bun –Green tea sweet potato cake Buns, cakes and donuts may be slightly more expensive than Chinese supermarket counterparts, but they are individually wrapped and irresistibly delicious. They do not sell a day old bread. If they have any leftovers, these are on discounts starting at 9 pm. Their breads are good for up to 2 days at room temperature or probably longer if stored in a refrigerator. If you buy six or more buns or donuts, they won’t charge you HST.

Pat bing soo — shaved ice, sweet milk, red bean paste, various fruit, rice cake, bean powder, soft serve ice cream. I hope I didn’t forget an ingredient. After watching some korean dramas, my daughter asked to try this korean dessert. Her verdict? Delicious! Only thing missing for me was the crunchy corn flakes.

The sesame sticky rice doughnut is quite addictive. Its plain appearance is often overshadowed by other cutesy cakes and buns so I’d ignored it a few times in the past. I like the slightly gooey texture that shows existence of sticky rice flour but not so dense and heavy. The red bean paste filling is mildly sweet. Although not heavy, I would say this doughnut is more filling than a typical Tim Horton’s.

Bakery Gâteau(inside Galleria Supermarket) I go to Galleria Supermarket all the time since I love love Korean food but have only try a few of the Korean Donuts(savory) and buns from Bakery Gâteau which is located inside the supermarket. We had a gathering at a friend’s place and was getting some cook food from Galleria and we decided to get a cake as well. We decided on the 6″ Green Tea Sweet Potato Cake $ 22 which was perfect for the 6 of us. Although being incredible full after our feast, we manage to finish the cake without any difficulty. It was very light and airy, not very sweet… I just love it and it means a lot coming from me since I usually don’t like«cream» cakes. Did I mention how pretty it was, perfect for the start of some perfect weather(^_^) Verdict : ~ Love it since it was just the right sweetness for me ~ Cute looking and tasty ~ Light & airy, won’t feel too guilty eating a second piece ;)

After I finished checking out Galleria, the organised display of buns at Bakery Gâteau caught my attention. Their selection of goodies all looked nice, fresh, and not to mention well priced! :) I bought these 2 long, sweet buns, packed together with green tea cream in the middle for $ 3.50.(I realise it’s not the same, but it’s bigger and even cheaper than Amadeus which is up the street!!!) The green tea filling wasn’t too flavourful, but the bun itself was soo soft, yet not too sweet. Other smaller, individual buns were less than $ 2/ea. They also had coffee, teas, cakes, all at reasonable prices, that I didn’t try. Thank God this isn’t in my ‘hood ’cause it would be DEADLY!!! There was only a generic pre-printed label of ingredients on the cello wrapping. The list were wholesome, i.e. flour, eggs, milk, etc. so I hope they’re accurate and their buns aren’t chalk full of preservatives/chemicals.

The secret yummy item is the soft serve ice cream for $ 1.25! It’s made with real cream and tastes fabulous. Much better than the ice cream trucks that charge 3x more.

Bakery Gâteau is located inside the New Galleria Supermarket in Thornhill! I love how the buns and cakes that Bakery Gâteau are all wrapped up in plastic bags… which is really hygienic and looks really organized too. Most of the selections are Western pastry with a Korean twist or Korean pastry with a Western twist? They do have the actual bakery on site, so you can actually watch the baker or pastry chefs baking and working on the dough. and sometimes I can even smell that oh fresh out of oven aroma all through the store! Green Bean Bun($ 1.20) — Compare to the Chinese buns I have before, Korean buns are really generous with the filling! The whole bun is practically filled with green bean paste. wall to wall! — The filling itself is not sweet at all… but has this really gooey texture. that stick to your teeth… — I would say the bun is filling and comforting! They do have other great selections of different bread, cake and pastry. so more incentive for me to come back and try out some of their other offerings!
