Large selection and truly something for everyone here. Conveniently located right off hwy 400. Friendly and knowledgeable staff here at the 400 and Hwy 7 location.

Good selection. Well organized store and easy to find items. Prices are reasonable and hopefully they stay that way and not because they are a new store trying to capture customers. Convenient location, just off the highway.

Located in the building that housed that old(Brick) Home Store, part of the building is now a regular Brick and the rest is a Sail. I only went into Sail for the first time, at their Oshawa store, this summer, and found it very MEC-like. I always thought MEC was leaving a lot of room for competition with only having locations in Barrie and downtown, and with Sail moving in on Vaughan and Oshawa, I’m saying goodbye to MEC and hello to Sail. Anyways, nothing too crazy about the store — it’s nice and spacious, with lots of selection of merchandise, just like MEC. Have I compared this place to MEC yet? Came in to buy an inflatable sleeping pad and pillow for an upcoming trek. Asked for advice and was helped by their resident expert in the department, who was pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable. They didn’t have the pad I was interested in, but they did have last year’s model for $ 10 cheaper, only difference being the colour, and also got another 10% off for it being an open item(though not a demo). Score. Oh, should mention — it’s nice that there’s now a new bridge from here going east across the 400 and you can follow the road all the way to Jane Street, avoiding Highway 7 in the process. Picture a crossing over the 400 parallel to Highway 7, just a touch north. I’ll be back.

I have been at this SAIL location twice. I was overwhelmed by the size of the store, product selection and pricing both times. SAIL specializes in mid to high end outdoor gears. The store have 2 levels. Approximately one half of the first level is for outdoor and casual clothing. The rest of the store sells outdoor gears. There are gears for camping, orientation, backpacking, water sports, hunting, fishing, snow shoeing, etc. The merchandises change according to seasons. Clothing — My general impression of the clothing section is that there are enough functional outdoor clothing from specialized brands to satisfy most shoppers. In addition to the usual brands such as Colombia and North Face, there are Arc’teryx(ouch, if you can afford it), Mountain Hardware, Helly Hansen, Descente, Millet, etc. The shoe section also features a large selection of shoes for outdoor activities and casual wear(more selections than Sportchek), such as Keen, Merrell, etc. Camping — I camp, so I appreciate that this store carries one of the largest selection of full fly camping tents in GTA. Most of them are 3-season tents. There are a handful of ultralight backpacking tents(for those who care about how many ounces their tents are weighted). Canadian Tire, Sportchek and Walmart just can’t compete. They have a huge selection of functional and specialized backpacks and packs. They also carries orientation gears, such as compasses, knifes, axes. There are sleeping bags in store, but I have seen more selection of higher end sleeping bags in the printed catalogs. Fishing and Hunting — I notice that the store has a huge area on the second floor for fishing and hunting. Since I don’t participate in these 2 activities, I can’t command on the quality of the merchandise, other than that there are a lot of gears and clothing for fishing and hunting. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, I recommend this store. It is like the Mountain Co-op, except it is located in York Region. As more than half of the store footage is for gears instead of clothing, it feels more like a true outdoor store than a clothing store. The store is much larger than Le Baron, therefore, the selection is bigger than Le Baron. To be frank, I feel like I am in a «toy» store here. There are clean washrooms in store. Pricing wise, it is good value and competitive. I find it less expensive than the Bass Pro Shop at Vaughan Mills. The store has regular sales. The most interesting ones are the semi-annual store-wide inventory sales that are to clear space for the goods of the new season. If you want to, you can sign up for its mailing list, and you will be notified of them.
