I’ve been here a few times now with friends. My previous experiences were here were good; however, I felt the need to post this after my experience last night(Friday Nov 29th) I walked up with a group of friends and we were quickly confronted by a gentleman who had clearly been drinking. He then went on to say that the server would be with us shortly and stepped behind the bar… To be honest, I brushed this off quickly along with my group and didn’t think too much of it. We sat down and waited about 10 minutes until we were greeted by our server. She left and came back another 10 minutes later to take our orders. She left with our orders and we waited another conservative 20 minutes before looking over at the bartender, and realizing he was too busy conversing with those sitting at his bar to pour our whiskey. We left after discussing the slow service and lack of professionalism in the work place. I hear Clives has fantastic Whiskey next door!

Upon walking in, my company and I felt right at home. We were greeted as if we had been old friends, and it was absolutely lovely. Despite feeling as though we were old friends, we were also given the right amount of space to ourselves and we found the food to be delicious. My company said specifically that the tomato soup tasted very fresh. Perfect service when we were there!

You might have never been to this great whiskey bar above Smiths(I hadn’t in over three years of visiting) but, if that’s true, then you’re definitely missing out on a great experience, on paper. The décor is friendly and comfortable, quiet enough that you can talk to your whole table but not so quiet that you feel bad about doing so. The kind of place where you can start your rowdy night or spend a mellow evening. The food was hit-and-miss, unfortunately, with some of our dishes tasting incredible and some severely lacking. The butter chicken poutine dish was amazing, while the«large spring rolls» were actually two small, sad rolls like you might get from Costco. The service was fast but perfunctory and felt more practiced than genuine. Our server was great at checking on the table but seemed unwilling to suggest a dish or discuss the whiskey selections at all. Then there is the whiskey. Oh, dear Lord, the whiskey. Loads of choices from numerous countries with prices ranging from around $ 5 to $ 15 with flavours as wild as seaweed. I had the Smokehead and it was incredible, flavourful and full. Everyone at the table tried a different whiskey, sparking conversation and lots of sharing. I’d absolutely come back here but I would eat somewhere else first.

We had breakfast there. Average food… It’s ok. Nothing out of this world, but not bad.

This was a refreshing restaurant to have located off of a hotel. We were staying at the quality inn and had a voucher to go here for one meal. We ended up having three during our stay because everything was good and I wanted to try more! The food was excellent and the cook was really nice. Seriously, you should give him a raise. I had the breakfast sandwich two days in a row, so good. Also, the Mac was tasty. Which brings me to my only complaint: the servers. The first time we came in was the evening and we decided to have some whiskey before going out for our dinner of sushi. They have a whiskey list worth reading and beers to match. I had a $ 121oz pour of an Australian bourbon. It was great, and definitely worth trying! When the server comes around to ask if we would like food, we politely declined. She then stated, «well since we are food focused, I am going to not serve you anymore alcohol». Um, what? This was the first drink either of us had, we were not loud, unruly, or such, just sipping whiskey. Is there a Canadian liquor rule that states you have to serve food with each drink? I don’t know, but both of us were put off enough not to come back for drinking and we spent a good deal of money at other establishments trying the booze. The second incident was with a server that didn’t show up to open. The cook ended up coming out to take our order until the manager arrived to unlock the bar and set up everything. Rad cook, super friendly, and cool under pressure. Again, dude deserves a raise. I’ll come back if I am in the area, because it was really good food. I just think there needs to be better customer service in general.
