I’m fairly shocked at all the high ratings for this restaurant. Mexican is my favourite cuisine hands down, and I am fairly lenient and will rate Mexican food really well even if most think it’s sub-par(this is how much I enjoy the cuisine!) I actually love Mexican food so much that I brought 6 of my family members to this location to celebrate my graduation from university. Bad idea — I’ve never tried worse burritos in my life. Initially I was super excited when I unwrapped the burrito and realized just how massive it was! It definitely would have been more appealing if they offered the option of toasting the burrito, but alas we can’t have it all. Unfortunately, The burritos were drenched in sauces and only edible using forks and knives. The protein didn’t taste all that amazing… super salty to be frank. I never ever throw away food, especially so if it’s Mexican food, but I couldn’t bare to eat the full burrito. Taste-wise, it was the least bit satisfying. One of the pork burritos we ordered actually came without pork(when we brought it back up, the cashier looked into the burrito for about 5 seconds, then finally replied«I see a bit here actually.» When my sister questioned if that was all the protein, the cashier actually turned around to ask her coworker if he’d actually put the pork in.) If you’re looking for a solid burrito, I’d recommend opting for another restaurant. Thought I found a gem of a place based on the Unilocal reviews, however myself and the rest of my 6 family members were all greatly disappointed. I remember my dad actually described it as «dog food.» Hoping this experience was just a one-off(how could all 7 of us be disappointed in our burritos based on such great ratings for this place?), but even so, I’m definitely not counting down the days until I’ll be back.

Probably the best Mexican place in Victoria. Portions are huge for the money, and the food is always super fresh and tasty.

My mouth will never be the same. The hottest salsa I’ve ever had. Amazing food and fun décor though. I’ve never not finished a small cup of salsa but this one had me in tears. It was awesome.

One of my favourite places to eat! The beef and shrimp Gordo is like heaven in a tortilla. The way the flavours work together is incredible. The beef is so tender and the slight crunch of the breading in the Baja shrimp give it nice contrast. The tortilla soup with veggie or chicken rajas is a beauty as well.

Just tried this location after always going to the Blanshard one, it’s much better! The staff were a lot friendlier, they didn’t forget ingredients/mess up order, and the shrimp seemed like a lot better quality. The ones at the other location are like a third of the size!

Staying in the area for work and saw this place had pretty good reviews. I had a beef burrito. I noticed upon ordering that they’ve had to make signs explaining why their prices have increased which I thought was a bit sad considering the prices seemed pretty reasonable. $ 12-ish dollars for a huge homemade burrito and a San pellegrino seems normal to me. They also have cheap tacos and deals on taco combos if you’re more of a taco person. I highly recommend using the hot sauce they have on the counter. Delicious!

A favourite place to eat! The chicken tacos with the medium salsa are SO delicious and the tortillas have the best texture and taste. The tortilla soup is just like I remember down south, the medium size is pretty big too. But I get the soup to go now because I don’t like eating out of the old chipped pottery bowl. I question how clean it actually can get with all the cracks and rough texture. Also it’s been a struggle to find a clean spoon in the«clean spoon» tin, so I get plastic now. There is hardly ever any seating because it’s pretty popular and has limited seats, but outside is nice if you can snag a table. I love it, I am going to try the downtown location next and check out the seating options.

Excellent food, portions are almost perfectly sized for my liking. I usually go for the fantastic Tortilla soup, my only wish is it came in a small, not just m or l. Go there, go there now, go there often.

Haiku Review: Beyond bland Tex-Mex: This is the real thing, done right. Yummy. Arriba! Décor doesn’t have much personality. But who cares. Delicious! Worth the trip over the Bridge; Good Mexican is worth it, amigo. Mole rich and strong 4, 6, 8 taco deals too — Get one of each kind!

Just moved to the area and after unpacking I walked on over and noticed this lovely little place. Amazing prices, fresh and local ingredients and they give insane amounts of food which is great. I also love spice and their Bravas spice is actually quite hot which is nice… this will be a weekly spot for me to hit for sure.

Super fresh, delicious Mexican food! Hit the spot when I am from out of town and looking for semi fresh, healthy food. A meal for three came to $ 20 with tax. Tried the beef al pastor and chicken tinga tacos with picco de gallo and verde mild salsa.

The most satisfying food you can get when that Mexican craving sets in. I always get the fish burrito or tacos and they never disappoint. The owners are great friendly people who always thank you for coming in and genuinely appreciate the business. I will forever be a la taquisa customer!

I live in Richmond, BC and was here for a vacation. We needed a place for dinner and so we hopped on Unilocal and liked the reviews and menu of this place. When we got there, we were not dissapointed. I had the 6 tacos deal and they filled me up nicely(and with a whole lot of kick I recommended the salsa verde it was amazing!). We also split a side of chips and guocamole which was a huge portion, my girlfriend had quesadillas and she also really enjoyed them. We had 2 jarritos(Mexican soda) and it was all under $ 25! I can’t say enough good things about this place. The amount of «regular» customers we saw walk in who were all known by name shows that this place is a frequent stop for locals!

great buritos and tacos. my favourite is the tortillas soups with extra veggies to make it hearty, and has a nice spice to it. they can get swamped when there is a line up but should expected when stuff is made fresh.

The food is very good. The open kitchen brings to mind«what you don’t know won’t hurt you». No hairnets or hats and gloves seem optional. I’m not usually that squeemish about this type of thing but I’m waiting for my food and I see the woman grilling tomatillos rub her(sweaty) face and hair with her hands and then start chopping and handling a bunch of grilled tomatillos. Ugh — gloves or no gloves, it was not good. Having said that, I still scarfed my fish tacos down. :-)

It’s open until 8PM and it’s an actual storefront. The menu is actually somewhat larger than that of the cart on Cook Street and they serve FISHTACOS! But for some reason, I don’t find my mole to be as flavourful at this location as it is at the cart. Perhaps this is just my perception, as a wooden cart on an empty lot is more charming than a metal and red hued storefront located in a charmless shopping mall. No matter what, it’s still delicious and a great addition to my side of the Johnson Street Bridge.

La Taquisa trumps all the other taco locations in town in my opinion and I’m so glad they’ve opened up a new location that’s much closer to me than Cook street. Recently opened close to the booster juice in West Side Village, La Taquisa has a winning formula, quality ingredients, fresh items all around, locally sourced meat, great variety of offerings(all your regular meats plus veggie or bean options, fish, etc), engaging and fun staff, funky cool interior and totally reasonable prices. If I can get stuffed full for $ 12 or less, I consider it a great value. Another small thing that I love is that they don’t overcharge for sides like guacamole or sour cream, 50 cents per container I believe it costs, while other places will charge well over double that. The employees are more than happy to share any details about the business with you and are warm and welcoming. Each taco is actually pretty significant in size as well, these are tacos that you’d have a tough time taking down in two bites, even for me they’re at least 4 solid bites. They have 5(if I remember correctly) levels of spicy for their salsas, ranging from the tame salsa verde(which is not very spicy at all, but has a very nice fresh flavour) to the semi insane super spicy which was as far as I could tell, 90+% diced habanero peppers, not for the feint of heart or palate. I could go on much longer, but find out for yourself, go try out this great new taco location now! Minor update: they now serve chicken mole tacos YESSS!
