A hidden gem. We noticed it when having a walk to Cadboro bay and went there after a long tired working day. The food is slow but worth waiting. Comfort foodScallop and salmon carpaccio is a highlight.

Simplicity and beauty. Clean flavours. The new Mitsuki-An is on Sinclair Road by Cadboro Bay. If you are visiting Victoria, you pretty much need a car or a ride to reach this spot. This is Japanese style home food with an emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients. A family affair, the chef’s family works with her and her husband is front of house. The space is spare & modern, not fancy. The prices are on the high side, but if you’ve got the cash — worth the splurge to experience simple, authentic, clean flavours. The Hokkaido Sauteed Scallops are a perfect example of the simplicity, perfectly cooked and dressed plainly to show off the scallop’s natural flavours($ 13.5). Sushi is a little pricey but treated delicately and respectfully. Even a spicy tuna roll($ 9.5) is more elegant in this chef’s hands. Every bite is yummy here from the hand rolls to the crunch rolls with homemade tempura bits. This is a great place to cleanse & recalibrate one’s palate. Note that the portions aren’t very big — «gut busting» is an anathema here. In closing I just have to mention the emphasis on healthy eating at Mutsuki-An. As I mentioned they focus on seasonal & local. There’s not much frying. Brown rice options are available. They also explain the health benefits of different dishes and ingredients. A simple delight — I look forward to returning. 600
