I finally found my coffee! Mile Zero is amazing! Has a strong taste and was exactly what my mornings were missing! Thank you!

I generally visit this store once or twice a week to pick up some of their delicious coffee(roasted in the store) which is a great deal at something like $ 8 for ¾ lb, especially compared with the ludicrous prices some other local roasters charge for their beans(Habit, I’m looking at you). It tends to be somewhat darker roast but it’s always delicious and full of flavour. Their teas are quite good as well.

Yet another thing that I wish Denver had, the local grocery store that isn’t 7-Eleven or doesn’t feel like I’m visiting Kabul. If you are looking for a few items for dinner, or if your like me, looking for a breakfast treats for the hotel room, this is the place to go. There is a good selection organic treats(think Whole Foods for my fellow Americans) and high end cheeses. The prices aren’t even that bad considering they can’t be getting huge quantity discounts on their orders. This grocery almost caused me to drop everything and move into the house accross the street. I would highly recommend for the tourist who doesn’t want to be a tourist or the local who needs that final touch on a great meal.

One of the things that makes Victoria such a great little city is that fact that the neighbourhoods work as neighbourhoods. The local corner grocery store is actually a place to buy groceries(not just chips and pop) and the local bakery is actually a place to get bread. The Niagara Grocery is a good example of this in action. Their focus on local sources for meat and produce(I reccomend the Galloping Goose Sausages) is remarkable for a smaller grocery store, and I like the fact that they have answers for questions about the origin of these products. The Nigara Grocery roasts their own coffee under the moniker Mile Zero Coffee( ). In my previous review I was critical of the latte I was served and his time around the quality of the coffee was much imporoved. Victoria has a very strong local coffee scene, and in order to compete with the many great options for coffee Niagara Grocery will have to work on the quality of their foam(lots of big bubbles, no micro-foam here) but they obviously care enough to get better and with a little more knowledge and practice I expect they’ll get there.
