If this is run by the same people who run the Shiki on Quadra Street, I completely agree with the bad reviews. First, the décor & interior. I was told that Shiki is the«new» sushi restaurant in town & that it used to be a Chinese food restaurant. Makes total sense as everything still looks & feels like a Chinese restaurant except for the sushi bar. Round tables, stained plastic table cloths and filthy walls and ceilings. And it was freezing in the restaurant and in the bathrooms. So cold that we left our coats on throughout the meal. The service was horrific. It took us 15 minutes to get tea and water. My boyfriend ordered a Kirin & the waitress had no idea what he was talking about. He had to pull out the menu and point to it and then to the bar. Despite all of that, she still managed to forget it despite being reminded. Twice. She explained that she was very busy but we were one of three tables and there were two waitresses on staff. We ordered two rolls, Agadashi tofu and a ramen. The rolls were mediocre, not as described on the menu and overpriced but edible. The tofu was the pre-packaged kind that you can buy from the grocery store and the ramen was simply Mr. Noodle with a couple of slices of overcooked mushroom, wilted bok choy and a sliced grey hard boiled egg. For $ 10.95. We asked for a bowl to split the soup & the waitress brought a plate. No joke. We had a couple of slurps of the soup but it was flavourless and the noodles were mushy. We paid for the rolls but told the waitress we would not pay for the soup because it was inedible. She looked concerned but did not apologize. We christened our experience at Shiki Sushi«Shitty Sushi» We decided to cut our losses and go to Dairy Queen for lunch instead. Our Blizzards were delicious.

My wife and I had outstanding salmon & tempura, and salmon & sashimi bento boxes for dinner last night, and our nephew and niece and family had a magnificent sushi & sashimi fish boat dinner for six. We will definitely return to Shiki Sushi the next time we are in Victoria.

Terrible and overpriced. My hamachi was still frozen and I had to wait for it to thaw. It was also poor quality and vary fishy. Not at all the buttery yellowtail I’m used to. We ordered the chicken Katsu from the kids menu for my son — the chicken was waaaaay over cooked and I could barely cut it with a knife. I ended up shredding it and putting it into miso soup so he could eat it. The spider roll we ordered was thoroughly underwhelming– tiny little crab(or was it ¼ a crab??). I have come to the conclusion that we must have angered the whale watching tour guide who recommended this place to us.

Undoubtedly the worst sushi and service I’ve had. Waitress kept harassing me and my friends throughout the meal to finish the food and threatened to charge us for not finishing some of the sushi rice. The fish wasn’t fresh at all. Serving was slow and they did not inform us that the last order was right after we finished the first round. Worst of all, my girlfriend felt sick right after the meal. Terrible food paired with terrible service. Whatever you do, stay away from Sushi Seiki.

Went for lunch for first time recently. The place was very busy and it is quite a large room. Ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box and Sashimi combo for about $ 18. Came with a nice miso soup and generous portions of very fresh and tasty assortment of sashimi including clam/geoduck, toro, sake, snapper and yellowfin tuna. The size of the teriyaki salmon was also good. It appeared to be coho salmon and was a little over cooked for my preference, but still good. The food was very good, but unfortunately the service was quite slow by any measure. It took us about an hour and a half for lunch which is at least half hour longer than most other establishments I patronize for business lunches during the week. The server was also a little on the abrupt verging on rude side. Perhaps this is understandable however as she probably felt overworked given it appeared to be understaffed by one or two servers. The prices were also a bit higher than most of the other sushi places I eat at in downtown Victoria, by $ 2 to $ 3 for equivalent meal. If service was faster and friendlier, I would give it 3 or 4 stars. Notwithstanding the slow service, I would likely give it another try during non-peak hours and perhaps for the all you can eat sushi which I have heard is very good for $ 28.

Sucks I have to leave even one star, service blows. Total and complete waste of money. The good reviews must be bogus

Very yummy — our group of three chose the all-you-can-eat option and were quite pleased. The menu is smaller than the regular menu(and smaller than most all-you-can-eat menus) but the options are very good. The maki was decent, the sashimi(and all fish) was particularly fresh and enjoyable, and the cooked options were excellent. The Oyster Motoyaki Robata are fantastic: I am not an oyster person at all, but these are a must-try! They can be ordered individually so pleas try them out. Salmon tempura was also a new experience for me — quite good as well. A little pricey but overall worth it. Our group of three all agree on this five star rating. Enjoy — if I lived in Victoria, this would be my regular sushi restaurant!

Had the all you can eat, great selection of appetizers, sashimi, nigiri sushi, sushi rolls, tempura, teriyaki and robata grill. Adults $ 28, good was good and worth the $. However, the service was VERYSLOW and had to ask 3 times for water, twice for lemon and soy sauce. The restaurant was not very busy so not sure why it took so long to place order, prepare food and had to flag someone down for everything.

The sushi was pretty good(my party all had the all you can eat special). However the wait was very long to be seated, and to then have our orders taken… We were never even given water or tea — I got up and served us myself! All and all the value didn’t make up for the lack lustre experience.

This was our first stop off the ferry for a weekend trip to Victoria with the family. It was a little after noon on a Saturday and the restaurant was oddly empty, which seemed like a bad sign. The restaurant looks new and modern, though, and the staff was very attentive, so we went ahead an ordered. The food was great! I had a chicken teriyaki bento with a California roll. The roll had real dungeness crab meat, not the imitation crab meat, which I’d rarely had before. I thought it really took a common roll to a new level. The bento was also really good, with little pickled things, tamagoyaki, and a tasty salad. The only not-so-great part was a really salty miso-based sauce on top of the rice. I think plain rice would have been just fine. The other rolls and bentos my family ordered were also good, and my dad’s chirashi had a generous selection of fish on top of some wonderfully flavored rice. The restaurant also filled up a bit more as we had our lunch. Maybe Victorians just like to get their sushi for a late lunch? Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.

The 10 minute wait to be acknowledged at the door should have been a sign to leave. Then the 20 minutes waiting for someone to talk to us should have been the next sign. But asking for tea twice and it being served only to the tables around us — many seated after us — was our signal to leave. First time I have walked out of a place after ordering. I would have told our server but couldn’t wait another 15 minutes to spot her.

We read the former reviews and were leery of giving this place a try. I am very happy that we gave it a chance! The service was so quick. Our food came out faster then I have seen at most sit down sushi restaurants. The server explained the menu very thoroughly and our tea was always kept hot. The Mexican roll was delicious! Only critique would be more vegetarian options. Would eat here again and again.

Waitress clearly not busy and refused to answer a simple question of «How are you doing today.» Music distinctly not Japanese. Restaurant looks nice and clean, I decided to give them a chance on the suggestion from a friend. Their food deserves praise, though. The salmon sashimi is as good as ever. I’m quite impressed — and being from a place like Vancouver, where sushi is second only to Chinese food, impressing me is unfortunately hard to do. Might be worth the $ 28 price tag of all you can eat in the future. Shiki’s Saving grace? I think the waitress follows the restaurant’s Unilocal reviews. She treated me a lot better after I made the quick tip about rudeness :). Win. Visit for the food. The service leaves much to be desired.

After reading the reviews, we were hesitant on coming to this place but honestly, there was nothing I could fault during our service. The setting was clean, the service was attentive and fast and the sushi was fresh. The Love Boat with the chef’s choice of rolls was risky for me since I didn’t like not knowing what we’d get but we went for it anyways and it was awesome. Chef made some unique things and included Sockeye salmon. The only minus for me was that those booths were not very comfy, especially with those thin cushions and no back support. But I guess it was for the sake of the design. Last, I’m pretty sure everyone who worked there was Japanese. Not sure where the whole«this place is Chinese» really matters. Especially coming from Seattle where 90% of Teriyaki places are ran by Koreans with Hispanic cooks. Even the majority of the conveyor belt places have Hispanic cooks. Seems silly doesn’t it. Shouldn’t matter. Tip: go there late and away from the crowds.

While in town visiting my sister, we decided we wanted Sushi… She recommended this place because she recently stubbled across it. After talking about it I read the reviews on here and was skeptical. Fortunately we(group of five) decided to take her word for it and went. SO glad that we did. We ordered the the«Love Boat for 4» and was pleasantly surprised. The fish was fresh and the special rolls were really tasty. The first time I have ever had fresh Mango on a sushi roll, very interesting with a light sweet taste! One of the rolls on the boat was what the waitress said was a chef special, meaning he made it up on the fly. That was THE best roll on the boat in several of our’s opinions. Some of the complaints talk about bad service, not the case tonight. She was prompt and the food came rather quickly. The love boat comes with soup, salad, tempura, edemame and a whole boat load of fish. There were so many different kinds, everyone got to try everything. In the end, we also had ordered an additional«Chef Special» roll and Sockeye Salmon Sashimi. The total bill ended up being about $ 30 per person including tax and tip. What a great deal, if you like sushi this place is it! The«Chef Special» roll had Salmon, Ovacado, Tuna and a spicy mayonnaise(or similar) on top. Yes it sounds simple but the flavor combination was excellent!

Awful food and service. I have been in the restaurant and not been impressed, and I have ordered take out and not been impressed. Both times the seaweed was soggy and stringy, the rice was mushy and too sweet and overall there was too much rice on the rolls. The tempura shrimp was soggy and old. Disgusting. One plus: the wild salmon sashimi was fresh. But both times it was poorly cut and I ended up chewing salmon bones. When I ordered take out, I ended up phoning the restaurant to mention that the quality was poor. The person who took my call told me to call back in a few hours so I could speak to the Manager. I waited and called back. No Manager. She said to call back in another hour. So I waited again and called back. The store was closed. Talk about a complete disregard for quality of food and customer service. I don’t understand how they are still in business.

Just a heads up: This place is Chinese. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that before I stepped in. Prices are pretty cheap. I got the chirashi and the bf got the tempura bento. The rice in his bento was covered in some kind of creamy and tart sauce. Very unusual — I had never seen anything like it. The breading on the tempura was a little thick. My chirashi had fresh fish(except for the hamachi, which was so-so) and it also came with some kind of baby octopus. Isn’t that Chinese. or Korean? I don’t think it’s Japanese. Something else that was weird was the waitress asking us how much change we wanted back. I found that kind of rude. No «thank you» when we left either.

Cute waitress and free lobster roll provided. Lots of customers during late night. Washrooms were clean. The food was quite good especially the sushi and sashimi. Udon was just OK. The wasabi was really strong, which I like. Service was excellent.
