Overpriced! We shared a breakfast that consisted of eggs, meat, potatoes and pancakes, a ‘large’ fruitcup, and two coffees = $ 28! Nothing special.

My son just started at Waterloo so we brought him out to lunch at Angie’s. I’m always attracted to diner type places which primarily offer breakfast with a little lunch thrown in. I also thought it was cool that I could see Cora’s through the window. There was a mix of people including a bunch of students and a few older people who I assumed were regulars. Although the bunch of us were in the mood for lunch, I had a chance to see the crowds around me happily devouring many breakfast items and everything looked amazing. I thought the prices for breakfast were on the high side but the portions looked huge. I had the reuben which was served with great bread and tasty sauerkraut. The fries were decent and once again I thought the price was at the high end of acceptable at $ 12.99. We also ordered the club which was really, really good. The bread was incredible and chickend and bacon were fresh and cooked well. The burger wasn’t bad either. If you order a pop, they bring you a bottle which I find a little strange and which, of course, means no free refills. On another note, I must commend the staff. They were great with coffee refills. They also handed a situation well. I guess they like to close the back of the restaurant during non-peak times and a couple came in and plunked themselves down in the section about to be closed. The waitress politely asked if they could move over one table so they could close the back. The jackass acted like the waitress just asked for an organ donation and refused to move. She handled it very professionally even though I would have accidentally spilled soup on his head or something. In the end, expect a bustling but nice environment, good food(especially the bread and baked goods) and service, higher than normal diner prices but big portions. Just don’t be a jackass and sit where you are supposed to.

Don’t get the Angie’s Famous Melt. It’s pretty low quality, and there’s very little aside from potatoes. Not to mention it’s ridiculously expensive. Just about anything else would be better.

CONS: First off, their service was horrible. It was a Sunday morning and the waitresses did not want to provide my table(of 5) any attention. The scrambled eggs were not great(just tasted funky) The«homemade» jam tasted fermented The small fruit cup was EXTREMELY small(and for 2.50, very overpriced) with such over riped fruit The waitress got the 4-chicken finger order wrong and repeatedly insisted that she did not(the plate only came out with 3 pieces, and we were charged 7⁄8 dollars) PROS: Cinnamon bun was very tasty and soft Some plates were worth the price, others not so much(i.e. chicken fingers and fruit cup both were over priced)

Less than impressed by this restaurant. we have been to angies in St Agatha our expectations were set high for the waterloo location. our«fresh out of the oven» cinnamon bun was microwaved then we proceeded to wait for over half an hour to receive our breakfast. while waiting forever for our food we got to listen to many Interesting conversations from the wait staff. They were clearly excited by the amount of milk shakes they were selling. Personally I would NEVER order one after watching them be made. waitresses checking patrons out, handling money then proceeding to use their hands instead of spoons to put sprinkles on top. gross! My potatoes were burnt and not edible. I would have loved to send it back but our waitress never came to service us. the nice man who was washing dishes and emptying garbage seemed to be the only one getting wthings done efficiently. sorry the kitchen staff seemed to be so aggressive towards you. Do yourself a favour and choose another place to eat

I love Angie’s. It’s seriously ‘as good as it gets’ in life. I went there on day 1 of my amazing six day stay in Waterloo. Angie’s was strongly recommended by the lovely hotel staff at the Delta Hotel who said ‘It’s my favourite breakfast place and it’s an institution around here’. A taxi driver said the same. I loved it; the food, the people, the ambience, and I went back every day. I tried lots of their dishes and I’ve got good news about the food. But first I must say that I’ve never felt so ‘at home’ in any restaurant or café or hotel anywhere ever! And I happen to travel heaps, and to great places. Within 24 hours of being in town, specifically after Sunday brunch at Angie’s, I was hooked and happy. Angie’s Diner was firmly at the centre of my extraordinary Waterloo experience. It’s the quintessential Canadian diner, with heart. It’s been running since 1962 and has passed from Angie, the daughter of Sicilian migrants, to her feisty, gorgeous daughter Teresa who at 65 or so is still running it with her gentle giant of a husband Bob. They are assisted daily by their beautiful daughter Suzanne. I do mean beautiful, in every way; all three of them, and their staff. At the bar are the six much loved original 1960s round stools in sparkly red wrapped by a wide band of chrome and set on a single black leg. The glass cabinet at the front counter is full of unusual pies, butter tarts and cinnamon buns. All the lovely tables, in blond wood or 1960s cream laminex, have a sweet bunch of items on them. The green plastic spiky ‘plant’ fills a square shaped chrome box that sits so well with the red china bowl of strawberry jam sachets, the bottle of golden maple syrup, the little white bowl of sugar sachets, and the 1960s salt and pepper shakers. I liked the place and its offerings so much that I found it hard to choose where to sit and what to eat so I kept varying. For just $ 13.99, I was served the biggest breakfast I have ever seen; the Country Style Breakfast and it actually included everything in the menu that had caught my eye; the classic egg and bacon as well as ham, sausage, French Toast and pancakes with maple syrup. It was great to get a taste of so many good things. The French Toast was especially nice, soft and crunchy, with a lovely, subtle flavour. It was when I commented on the delicious maple syrup that the wait staff brought the owner Teresa over to me. Although she was busy, she chatted lots with me and she’s really interesting. Over the days I met some of their other customers and this was fun. This is a true family business and I loved watching the easy interactions of the family and the great service that they delivered. One of my favourite meals was a specialty that Teresa recommended which was delicious spicy Jalapeño bacon served with best fried eggs ever, rye toast and good Mennonite potatoes. Another time the perfect eggs came with something new and interesting for me, Krug’s farmer sausage. On Suzanne’s advice I tried and loved the ‘meat lovers’ omelette which included a mix of sausages, ham, bacon, eggs and melted cheese. Another morning I had hot oatmeal with brown sugar; good comfort food. And cappuccino. My favourite meal was a lunch of grilled haddock fillets and golden fried chips that Teresa cooked for me herself. She had just told Bob, who came in every day for a meal, that she would prepare the fish for him and turned to me recommending it. I accepted. It was so succulent; fresh, juicy and delicious. I noticed that Bob often chose the soup of the day. Next time I’ll try it! And apparently the pies are a must! As an Italo-Australian woman, Waterloo is pretty far flung for me and in fact I cannot imagine choosing a winter holiday anywhere. It was minus 16 degrees some days and snowing, and yet to my surprise, I loved it! Trust me, go! It’s going to sound crazy because I felt like I was ‘God knows where’, at the North Pole or on the moon but I actually want to recommend Waterloo as a great travel destination. For Angie’s, for the fantastic live music scene at Duke’s(the pub next door) and elsewhere in town, for the Uni and the snow and most of all for the people. I’ve never been in a friendlier town! And how about this for special: the physicist Stephen Hawking works in Waterloo as does Bill Gates. Wow. Waterloo is the home of Blackberry and other successful start ups. Google’s Canadian office is right there and even Teresa’s brother-in-law is a Nobel prize winner, another physicist! Waterloo is a mini Silicon Valley. I think that the presence of very bright people in Waterloo must be linked to the amazing live music scene and to the general great character of the place. I say now to my fellow travellers, start in Toronto at the ‘cool’ Drake’s hotel in amazing Queen St, and then, why not try Waterloo?! Stay at the beautiful Delta Hotel; make Angie’s your home and cosy Diner; and go to Duke’s for great music ’til late. What a trio, in magical Waterloo.

I’ve been to Angie’s more times than I can count, and have generally had good experiences. My girlfriend and I would usually go on weekends, when it gets crazy busy for breakfast/brunch. This is definitely when they get the majority of their business, because they’ve drastically reduced/eliminated their dinner hours. Generally speaking, the food is pretty good. The toast that comes with the breakfast is made from freshly baked bread, and it comes with a different kind of homemade jam every time. On occasion, the homefries have, to be quite frank, sucked, but more often than not they’re decent. I usually order either the Vegetarian or the Spanish omelette, but am rarely full upon finishing it. Thankfully my girlfriend usually doesn’t finish all of her food so I take whatever she doesn’t want. When I think about why we’ve been there so many times, I think it’s probably a combination of convenience/routine and the fact that the place came to hold a bit of sentimental value. Here are a few random reflections on my many meals at Angie’s: 1. The lineups suck. You end up packed into the entrance with a bunch of hungover Laurier students while people are forced to squeeze by you on their way out/to the bathroom. There doesn’t seem to be a good place to stand, and it can be an annoying way to begin/end your visit. It is, however, a quintessential part of the Angie’s experience. It doesn’t seem to become an issue until about 11 am-noon, so if you want to avoid the lines, just go around 9 or 10 and you should be fine. 2. The service is inconsistent. I think the staff are often overworked during the weekend breakfast rush, and they often make mistakes. Try to keep your order as simple as possible, as extras/special instructions are often screwed up. In the event that mistakes were made, they have sometimes knocked a couple of bucks off the bill, but it would be preferable for them to get the order right in the first place. 3. Upon ordering, they will always ask if you want to start off with whatever baked good they’ve recently made(usually cinnamon buns). I always dislike any attempt to «upsell», but this is more of a head’s up than a complaint. 4. They often have groupons, and lately they’ve been giving out $ 3 gift certificates to use on a subsequent visit. This basically amounts to free drinks, since one of the conditions of the certificate is that you have to buy drinks.

The breakfast was amazing! We had Krug’s sausage which is amazingly smoking and wonderful. The breads are to die for and the eggs taste super fresh. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in quite a while.

If they had an Angie’s in Toronto, I’m certain that there would be line-ups out the door for brunch. Patio brunch with delicious food and freshly made pies and butter tarts? Yes please! The service was excellent, as they catered to my arguably ridiculous demands of changing seats because I was too hot, changing my tea flavour, and bringing a plateful of tartar sauce because I like lots of tartar sauce on my fish and chips. The fish and chips were delicious and was not covered in a thick layer of batter, which was nice. The fish pieces were actually quite small, so the waiter recommended getting at least 2 pieces. I agree with him as I’m not a big eater and was able to finish 2 pieces, no problem. I had some of their beef gravy on my fries, a little watery but it was refreshing as compared to the run-of-the-mill fake stuff that diners normally serve. And their pies looked soooo delicious as they were left-out to cool at the front of the restaurant. We couldn’t resist and bought an entire raspberry pie. The buttery crust was fabulous and not thick and chunky like the store-bought stuff. It was also not loaded with sugar and had a very good tart balance from the raspberry. I regret not getting their strawberry rhubarb pie to-go as well.

I got a skillet breakfast that was awesome, I’d definitely recommend this lace for anyone looking for a weekend brunch. The service was fairly quick, food was plentiful and while you’re here don’t forget to pick up desert to go. We got a strawberry rhubarb pie and a raspberry pie, both where a hit after dinner(and the next morning). One heads up, the waitress never mentioned it, but you pay at the front, we spent a few minutes waiting for someone to take our payment before heading up to the front to ask.

Horrible place. We ordered the ribs and chicken tender with garden salad and home fries. The garden salad has rotten leaves. I just cannot believe it. The ribs are tasteless. I feel like eating cardboard. I would not recommend this place to anyone

The best breakfast one can consume is the one eaten the morning following a big night of drinking. It congeals all the queasy, uneasy-ness remaining from the night before, gives you purpose for the day ahead and at the very least makes you warm and sleepy so you can enjoy your day ahead in bed. Students, local business folks and Waterloo locals have been coming to Angie’s diner for this exact purpose for over 50 years, and this sunday my WLU Alumni friends and I staggered into Angies as we had so many times during our undergrads excited for what was ahead — a CORNUCOPIA of breakfast options, fresh baked breads and pastries and home made jams — ughh gives me hangover-boner just thinking about it(Sorry for the inappropriate reference but when you’re talking #FoodPorn Angie’s is tops when it comes to a breakfast/brunch 3some). Before getting to my near sexual breakfast experience I will point out that this was NOT the same Angie’s we had frequented so many times in our youth. Yes the breads were baked the same and the Jams were made with the same love BUT this Waterloo mainstay had received a makeover something amazing on the inside and the food somehow tasted way better for it! No more wood paneling and awful seat coverings. A beautiful matte black finish paint covers the walls now, the white trim seems crisper and the booths and seats have been re-upholstered with a beautiful black leather fabric. Even more there is new hardwood flooring… basically the once tacky interior we loved was now something super chic looking that the older version of me found even more endearing. LOVEDIT!!! Nice work team. Ok so now back to the foodporn. I’ll keep my points short as I feat that discussing it too long will cause me to prematurely«salivate». We were in a big group(8 hungover hungry dudes) and we ordered a variety of options but here is what my order consisted of: — Saw someone at the table next to me ordering a fresh HOT steaming Sinnamon Bun(no spelling error), and I literally had to hold back from letting a small cry from escaping my lips — I ordered one — IMMEDIATELY! WOW… so long cinna-bon, hello Angies!!! Light, fluffy, melt in your mouth cinnamon and dough. Not overly sweet and HUGE! Admittedly I moaned a bit loud on my first bite(apologies to the table next to us who looked over). — For my main I opted for the eggs Benedict(a personal fav). I knew something was different with the menu here from the last time I was in once I tried my Benny with Peamale. The hollandaise sauce sauce was oustanding — far and away the greatest I’ve had(and I’ve had it everywhere). Not overly buttery and a perfect consistency. Like wow… oops I just salivated all over myself… I’m embarrassed… No I’m not! Such a great experience — even had a chance to speak with the current owner of Angie’s Diner about her renovation adventures(they did it all in a weekend!) and I thought her coming over to check on us personally was a really nice touch! X-FACTOR — they make their own breads and jams(which they use in all their breakfasts) BUT you can also purchase loaves of your fav bread or jars of ur fav Angies preserves when your cashing out. Amazeballs! I’m adding this to my «OOOOOOOOOOO» list — read the list description and you’ll know why!

Angie’s is located in uptown Waterloo on ERB street. As you walk in to the restaurant you are welcomed with a very simple home-y décor. When I got there it was fairly busy but got service right away. There is plenty of room inside and out for a large number of people to have breakfast together. I went to Angie’s expecting a great home style breakfast(as per many great reviews). I ordered a ‘grandson’s delight’ with bottomless coffee. The dish included an omelet with chicken, home fries, toast and jam. The omelet was tasty, and enjoyable. However the toast, was dry(didn’t look homemade) and the home fries were nothing special. Maybe I was expecting too much because of all the praise but I was disappointed with the quality of the food. The service on the other hand was great. The breakfast and coffee(Without tips) came out to $ 16.xx.

I’ve been so fortunate in that the last few reviews I have had the pleasure to write have literally written themselves, in that the service, food and overall experiences have been nothing less than stellar. Angies Kitchen is no exception, although I must throw in a caveat, in that I actually ate at the St. Agatha location, which by most accounts is superior to the Waterloo restaurant. Angies offers up a simple, but delicious home style cuisine. the weekend buffet is legendary. They offer a full salad bar and their fall off the bone ribs are among the best I have ever had. the service is tremendous and no detail is spared. Servers are attentive without being overly forward, they seemingly blend into the background emerging at just the right time to replenish a half filled coffee mug or offer water when its needed most. I was in awe of Sharon the endless ball of energy that seemed to simultaneously work the buffet line, offer menu recommendations, and efficiently delegate to her busy staff, all well taking the time to greet regular patrons by name and engage in easy chit chat with them as she proceeded to seat them in their preferred locations. She did this all with the delicate balance of only someone that has made hospitality and the restaurant business a professional career choice and not merely a job could.
