The Charcoal group is really missing its mark with these pubs in one very specific area. NOISE! Most nights you can’t hear yourself think in these bars. It’s so loud you have to yell at your friend sitting beside you. Only seating that it’s tolerable is out on the patio in the summer.(well, or when it isn’t busy). They’ve put nothing in terms of sound dampening into the design of the interior — it’s all hard surfaces, so everything reverberates. The beer is WAY overpriced. This side of the airport or the ACC or Skydome, you won’t pay more for beer. The selection is great, but why the huge premium on the suds? Just wrong. The food is good — I think some of their appetizers should be revamped, but they’re trying to be an upscale bistro and that’s the calibre of food they’re presenting — very much in line with their other restaurants. Fix the noise problems and you guys will really have yourselves a winner! :)

How I feel about beertown is best described as «meh». The atmosphere is great but I really value a big menu which beertown just doesn’t offer. The food I have had(and i’ve been in several times) is good but not great. Service is pretty on point though.

Great ambiance and service! Tried the paddle after reading reviews on Unilocal and was impressed! Not only do you get to try out different beers, you also get to enjoy the novelty of being surprised by requesting your server to build a paddle for you. Ordered the poutine for dinner and its the best in waterloo so far! Will definitely go back again for more!

Working in Kitchener and away from home(Toronto) really makes you want a nice meal that can make you enjoy your business trip — Beertown is that haven. I started with the delicious artichoke dip followed by a meaty and saucy Half Rack Ribs coupled with a side poutine. Appetite was pleasantly satisfied, stomach was showing signs of what looked like a 6 month foetus and a waiter that was surprised to find that I was able to find a home for this meal. Of course, can’t forget about the brownie and vanilla ice cream dessert because, why not? I am now fat, but overly satisfied. Definitely returning.

I’ve been here a lot in my earlier years attending University of Waterloo and have been here occasionally after that. So I’ve tried a variety of their dishes, mostly pub-like and basic American /Canadian dishes. They don’t have anything unique here except the variety of beers that you can grab with your meals. I think the food here is mediocre and nothing exceptional, but it’s not terrible either. Sometimes I found the dishes unexpectedly bland and just not well put together or even sometimes cold(like it’s been sitting around for a while). It seems they’re trying to be more than a pub by serving non-pub meals but sometimes I find they don’t execute the dishes properly. It’s often busy and you’ll usually have to wait when you come during a week or week night, unless you make reservations which I recommend. I’d come back if other people wanted to, but this is not the first place I’d suggest or want to go to.

Food was pretty good and the Metropolitan was great! The piña colada that my boyfriend ordered was pretty gross though. The only complaint that I have for this place was that during our last visit, our server was extremely awkward and rude. Other than that, this is our regular go-to restaurant in Waterloo.

Great, kind, and friendly waitress. We were visiting for a recruiting trip from D.C. and found this place to be perfect for what we needed. It is super elevated bar food with, of course, a great beer selection. The best one of the group was the one that ends in blanc, it’s smells and tastes like apricots! We had a great time.

Beertown offers delicious bar food when you need your fix of greasy, comfort food. Get the smoked brisket poutine! I ordered the poutine to share with the fish tacos. The poutine was the clear winner as I couldn’t stop eating it. Yummm.

It’s a good beer place in Waterloo. You can sample many different local and regional beers here. The food is also very good. The service is excellent. They also have many big screen TVs to watch sport events. The only downside is the price. No audio during a game also bothers me.

Good vibes, good service, good food… uncomfortable benches. Our server Sylvia was awesome and had tons of great recommendations for us! I’m not a beer drinker, but I really enjoyed the beer inspired cocktails. The Somer Daquiri made with Somersby cider was delicious. I also really enjoyed my raw salad and wild mushroom flatbread. All in all a great place to hang out with friends on a weekend. I’ll definitely be back again, but perhaps with my own butt cushion.

Beertown is an upscale sportsbar with a patio, which generally isn’t my cup of tea, but I just keep coming back… Pros. instead of prose: + great beer selection that isn’t focused on IPAs, including Innis & Gunn and Fruli + location location location + open late + good service + wifi(good when roaming) + good pub food when you’re feelin’ greasy Cons: — TOOMANYDAMN TVs playing different things — lack of healthy food options I’m going to give Beertown 4 stars, because I’ve been there too many times to give it anything lower. PS: 4 beer paddles are worth the money.

It was my first time here and it was a pleasurable experience! Décor: It’s got that wood theme going for it with a few sports bar kicks thrown in. The environment inside was overall good since we were able to talk without needing to shout. They also have patio available, which looks like a great setup in the summer! Food: I ordered the ½ rack of ribs that came with coleslaw, fries and beans. The ribs were delicious! Great char and smoky flavour, would go great with some of their beer, which I did not try, even though it is called Beertown. The slaw was also very good, not overpowering whatsoever(which is the case for most slaws that I’ve had previously). The fries were decent, not spectacular. The beans I found extra since the ribs are already kind of sweet, why have 2 sweet flavours on one plate? Would’ve rather had more slaw or fries, but that’s just me. Conclusion: Would definitely recommend this place for game night or a social event! Great atmosphere. Our server was also very patient and courteous, although he did ask about bills before we hinted on leaving. As for pricing, I think the entres are pretty reasonable, but the appetizers and sides seemed expensive.

I have really enjoyed Beertown in the past. I’ve been there a number of times but usually with the«guys». So, when our babysitter showed up 45 minutes late and we had to cancel our reservation at another restaurant, I suggested to my wife that we go to Beertown and get the Taco Trio I often talk about. I was pretty happy about this turn of events actually. When we got there around 7 it was as jammed as we expected. We decided to have a beer and wait at the bar. There wasn’t two seats open so; we decided to linger around the bar. There was room at the corner to stand and order so I stood there but no one came to take our drink order. There was a female bartender that was working very hard and a male bartender that was less so. Maybe he didn’t see me, I’m only 6’5″, I mean, and I’m not a literal giant, only a figurative one. Do I have that right? Not really. Any way, we didn’t leave; I really wanted a taco trio or taco sextet. We waited for the bartender but he must not have like the cut of my jib. Then two seats together came up at the other corner of the bar and we sat down, the female bartender came over shortly after we sat down. She was very nice and patient, as my wife just couldn’t decide; she wanted something lighter but not flavorless. Our table was ready about 20 minutes later. They sat us at a nice table by the window and our server was very nice. However, the Taco trio was not, they were cold. The congealed fat in the cold Pork Belly and Brisket tacos was especially yucky(as my daughter does say, much to our dismay). We also ordered wings and nachos, neither of which was very good. All in all it was a fine evening because my wife and I had a long overdue night out together and the beers were flowing and delicious . However, I doubt I’ll be able to convince her to go back to Beertown and to be honest, I’m not sure I’ll ever go back. It was that disappointing. I wrote a Haiku Review(because it will one day be a thing): Babysitter late Reservation no longer Beertown a letdown

This place is definitely a sports bar, beer and TV screens everywhere! However, I do find that food wise, it’s one of the best in KW! Their burgers are amazing and I get them every time I go!

I’ve been hearing about Beertown since long after I moved away from the KW region. It came into town after what seemed to be an endless build period occupying prime real estate in Waterloo Town Square, but from what I can see, and what I finally had the chance to experience… it was worth the wait. Was there this past Saturday evening with a group of pals in town for a reunion of sorts. This is definitely the type of spot that a slightly more mature crowd(as in mid to late 20’s an beyond). It’s definitely not a spot where University kids are going to flock too(it’s too far and the prices are set above the average UNi-student budget). Aesthetically it’s your typical sports bar, with big screens, big sound, sports everywhere. and I mean everywhere, there really isn’t a bad seat to watch any game from. The big difference make is the beer selection, following the lead of places like the Bier Markt, they’ve brought together a large assortment of beers both Ontario Craft and popular European classics(Stiegl, Delirium), so if you’re a hop head and the recently opened Abe Erb is sold out of their beer. again… then this is great close by spot. Food wise, I’d give them top marks from what myself and my friends had, everyone seemed to be more than happy. I ordered two beef barbacoa tacos as an appetizer and followed it up with a heaping plate of MacN Cheese. My mistake. The tacos would have been a perfect entrée with a salad, they were pretty big and certainly didn’t skimp on toppings/fillings. The mac was enough for 2 people to split, so needless to say, I maybe ate ¼ of my mac and passed it off to my hungry pals salivating while I struggled. The highlight to the night for me was their beer paddles, something that’s become a fave of most beer focused spots, lining up a sample sized pint of every beer on tap. At Beertown, their paddle is basically the length of a 10 person table, double sided and holds 30 x 5oz beer samples end to end(15 a side). This behemoth is aptly named: The Beermageddon Paddletron 3000! For $ 80 it’s definitely a great novelty for a mid sized group to get into. I was very happy here and I give it a hoppy high five on pretty much all fronts. Eatcrest Out PS — they are one of a few bars to carry the Gluten Free Beer — Mongozo. Couldn’t tell the difference

Beertown is a great place to meet up before or after the game — the atmosphere is fresh and visually Appealing as they have littered the horizon with TVs. The main bar has a video wall which is always showing a current sporting event — food is above average with quality and attention to detail This spot does have an above average noise level so I wouldn’t classify it as a place to «chill» so to speak Always a great selection of beers on tap — who would have thunk it ;)

This place is good, but nothing special. The highlights are definitely the décor, the convenient location(sooo many bus routes!), the selection of beer and the«paddles» that let you sample a few different kinds of beer. The food is overpriced for the quality. I got the mac and cheese. It had some breadcrumbs on it, but they weren’t as crunchy as they are if you homemake it. My boyfriend got the taco trio, and one of them dripped so much it actually spilled off the«plate»(more like a wooden slab — I get what they were going for in terms of the aesthetic, and I would have thought it was really cool had that taco not leaked). I took a bite and it spilled all over my hand. Uuugh. We got dessert, the Beertown Brownie, and it was okay, but nothing amazing. Again, very good, but overpriced. Also I dropped off a comment card on my way out — one was left with the bill — and having no neutral ratings I selected«disagree» for the food«greatly exceeding my expectations» because it didn’t? It met them, but didn’t blow me out of the water. I filled in my contact info because it said I’d be entered in a draw but then my server called me? I missed it so it went to voicemail where my server left a message about why I didn’t enjoy my meal. This was the first time that’s happened to me and caught me off-guard. The review was generally very positive, I’m not sure why they called me.

I really enjoyed the food here. I came with a big group of guys for a bachelor party. It was a busy night and I don’t remember if we had a reservation or not. Probably not, and they told us the wait would be about 20 minutes so we continued our drinking at the bar. 40 minutes later we ask them what the deal is. They said the table is almost ready and they are clearing the table for us. Meanwhile we are still drinking and ordering some appetizers but also getting slightly annoyed as there has been this big empty table staring us in the face for the past 20 minutes that would seat all of us. Another 45 minutes or so pass and finally we get seated. At the SAME table that was staring us in the face sitting empty for over 60 minutes. We passed the time staring at butts, being guys, looking at food and yelling” OMGTHATLOOKSSOGOOD”, looking at tables and making up stories on how the people seated know each other — work party likely software company given all the nerdy looking engineers, quarrelling lesbian lovers, first date going awful, first date going awesome, family that hates each other and don’t to be there, etc… Yeah, we were bored and needed to eat. So that right there was just straight up annoying. That knocked off 2 stars from what could have been a five star meal. All I was thinking in my head was«I CANNOTWAITTO UnilocalABOUTTHISNONSENSE», but hey whatever the food was good and the ambience was nice. Me and a bunch of guys ended up sharing various tacos and fish and meat, all of it delicious. It was fish taco, pork belly, and steak. All we’re great but I think the fish taco was best. I also had some salmon salad which I thought was outstanding and the prime rib was juicy and tender. The beer platter I ordered was also pretty awesome to sample various beers, and it wasn’t expensive either. tldr; Beertown could have been awesome — instead it was just satisfactory. I would come back.

I think most people are attracted to the ambience of this place — really nice décor and setup. Plus, there’s room for large groups. The service is fairly good here and the food comes timely. We had a group of 7(mostly guys) and they sat us down at one of the semicircle booths, which we discovered comfortably fit 5, so we just moved to the tables. You’d think that they’d know it doesn’t fit more than 6 people(maybe all girls?) So we moved to a different table, and 3 of the plates were noticebly dirty(could see ketchup stains on them). No big, asked for new plates. They obviously have a huge variety of drinks and beer selection. In terms of cocktails/lighter drinks, I’ve had their light paddle in the past, which was pretty good. The somer daiquiri I had last night was pretty good as well. They have an interesting menu, with poutine, burgers, schnitzel, big salads, tacos, etc. I’ve had the pork belly poutine on one occasion and thought it was very good. They also have a spinach & avocado dip appetizer that was decent, although the dip was too thick to my liking(hard to scoop with flimsy nachos). They used old lettuce in my pork belly tacos last night, though. I took a giant bite into my taco and I started tasting something very bitter. I thought it was the cilantro, so I removed it. Turned out it was the lettuce. Yeah, gross. The pork belly itself wasn’t that great either. I’ve had their fish tacos in the best which were much better(and didn’t have old lettuce). Was disappointed by that part of the experience, but overall, I tend to have a good time here.

Very much a sports bar. From my vantage point, there were 17 screens I could see that were broadcasting a range of hockey and baseball. We stopped in after dinner, so we didn’t order any food. The beer selection was good, the service prompt. Nothing really stood out, hence the three-star rating. It was also basically across the street from our hotel. The good: fast service. The bad: too much stimulus from all the tvs ever.
