This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Definitely the best Indonesian food I have had in my life. Every dish is unique and delicious. Their take out boxes are in swan shape, I have never seen such creative boxes. It is a bit expensive but totally worth the price.

I feel bad for this used-to-be awesome fine dining! Getting more popular did not do any good to it. I did my booking daysss before and had plans for our special night, just to get one of the worst customer service experiences that I have ever got. We arrived just in time, the place was terribly full, with tables set up so very closely, and we were directed to a tiny table squished between two other tables! Obviously I asked for another table and I was rejected. I asked to talk to the manager hoping for help. Oh my! The lady manager(with dark black short hair), and she was extremely rude! She simply said«that’s what it is!» We left right away as I was very disappointed and unhappy. I don’t really understand why someone with this attitude should be the front of a fine dining. She was in desperate need of customer service training. We will never go back and I will definitely share my experience with my huge group of friends. I see that they will soon lose the competition to many other new KW fine dining restaurant that are smartly managing there business. We eventually dined at the Red House uptown and very much enjoyed it, and we got an unbelievably great service. Forgot to add, the place(Bhima Warung) was saturated with strong food smell, very unpleasant! Our clothes smelled like food even for the short time that we were inside! In short, re-think going for this place, as it’s old quality is gone!

I definitely enjoyed coming to Bhima’s Warung, but for the price of the food and my opinion of the taste, it was mediocre. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ambiance of Bhima’s Warung as well as the cute way they pacakge the food. Furthermore the service is pretty excellent, but in particular I wasn’t a big fan of my dish, the poo lan baru. To me, the noodles tasted like they were boiled just with normal water, but lacking a little bit of the seasoned broth to take out the noodle flour stench(not sure how to describe it, but the taste is like the mixture of the wonton noodle stench mixed with flour stench). I really dislike the flour stenches particularly for noodles, so even if the noodles were boiled with the soup, the stench was still present to me. I thought the curry was a great compliment to the noodles as mixing it up definitely removed the flour taste slash stench to the noodles. The food was more Asian Fusion to me than Indonesian. Definitely beautiful presentations in some of their dishes, but not one of my favourites in terms of taste. The taste seemed a little odd to me and didn’t seem to compliment each other as well as I hoped for it to(but that’s just my opinion). With a four and a half star rating, definitely a lot of people enjoy this place I enjoyed the cha gio though. It definitely was a little different, but the presentation and creativity of the dish was well thought out. The taste was fairly complimentary in my opinion.

Bhima’s is an unsung hero of Waterloo’s culinary scene. I’ve lived here for years but never visited until tonight. It is located in a student-heavy area with an unassuming façade. Most people probably walk past not realizing it is one of the best restaurants in the city. The décor is dated but not in a bad way, it’s authentic and warm. The service is more friendly and welcoming than I’ve experienced in recent memory. The food is amazing. My wife and I both had curry dishes, yellow and red, respectively. We agreed it was the best Asian curry we’d ever had. It’s pricey but totally worth it.

Such a pleasant experience every time I come here. The menu is so well balanced with flavours your never expect to blend so well. The service is also very attentive and great with suggesting items you may not normally consider. The specialty drinks are all delicious and presented beautifully. All in all I’ll definitely be back, whether it’s a special occasion or just a Friday night out!

Food is kinda overrated. Romantic, but even if you can afford it, there are better places you can go.

The service is really good and the atmosphere is very romantic. However, the food here is totally overrated and overpriced. The presentation of food is not bad, but the taste is just terrible. And because of the open kitchen, the smoke from cooking is just killing me. I can’t stop coughing that gives me a sore throat. So whoever has respiratory problem or asthma, please stay away from this place. I will not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for delicious food and I will not come back again.

A true hidden gem. I’ve walked by this place many times in the past four years but only recently visited. Oh my, the food is amazing. I’ve tried multiple entrées ranging from the wallet friendly options such as pad Thai to the more expensive ones such as seafood fried rice and t bone steak(they were specials that day so not on the regular menu) and never been disappointed. The portions are on the large side so you always have some leftovers for the next day: D imo their dessert is where they shine. I had chocolate marquis, crème brûlée, and white chocolate pudding and they’re not like any I’ve tried at other restaurants. Totally blew my mind! The staff is very friendly and patient explaining to you all the menu options. Ambiance is great. Romantic and intimate. I took one star off because the food is on the salty side. I think next time I go I will ask for less salt.

A bit pricey but rlly good taste. It’s a bit not worth the price though. At least $ 50 per person without even breads/buns to start. Writing my first Unilocal review here hah.

Had a reservation at Bhima’s Warung. They were very hospitable at that restaurant. For example, our reservation was for 6 and we had invited two additional people to come. They were seated quite quickly. However, that is because the restaurant was empty except for another small group celebrating their birthday. Their food is over-rated. Many friends and colleagues living in the area had recommended this restaurant to me. The food should be described as Asian fusion. The food was okay. The décor was very romantic. I highly recommend anyone going on a date to go here. If you can afford it.

Great service, great food. I’ve been here a few times and have never been disappointed. They always a have a few specials for appetizers and the mains and first time I went I had the 3 fish special. The most recent time I went I had the lobster and monkey fish with red curry on noodles. It’s hard to describe, unless you go yourself! The environment and décor is really nice and subtle and contributes nicely to the ambience.

O M G. This place looks like crap from the outside, but holy freaking cow once you step in. Got some of the finest décor and thoughtful foods. I ordered the weekly special, some 15 Vietnam and Laos foods with 2 dessert. I was blew away and completely speechless. Chefs here are so creative and good at all kinds of cooking methods.

I got a red curry dish called pad ped surf & turf. It was amazing(though I was pretty hungry). It is the best red curry you can get in the KW area. It took me some time to get used to the bright green walls inside this restaurant but I liked the tropical atmosphere fitting for an Indonesian fusion restaurant. It felt like I was eating in the middle of some forest, lol. The server was very helpful and knowledgeable. He knew when to come help us and when to leave us alone. He seemed to enjoy working there. It’s located in the heart of a busy student residence area but the price may not be friendly to your typical student budget(at least $ 30+ per person). I am not sure if there is parking available. I would definitely return to try different dishes. They are open for only dinner after 5 pm.

Reserved for a group of 9, chose to do family style to try their top dishes in one go. On the outside, the place looks sketchy and run down. On the inside, it’s quite beautiful, especially if you go while it’s still bright out, with the sun peeking in through the windows. There were a few other tables filled but not too lively. Anyways, we were served a 3 course dinner, and they made two of each dish. So basically 5 of us shared a set, and the other 4 shared another set. Appetizers were delicious(there were 4 or 5 of them). The 5 or 6 mains had huge portions but we thought the appetizers were actually better. Dessert was pretty standard. To sum it up, it was like an asian fusion experience with great ingredients, huge portions. I’m not sure if that justifies the price though — it was $ 50 per person for family style. I think if it was $ 35 – 40 I would gladly go back, but sitting at $ 50 before tax is a huge sum to pay for a meal as a student. Some of the cocktails were very alcoholic, while others, like the Bhima Colada I had, were fruity and not too alcoholic. The service was good — our server came to check on us often and was very helpful, and the food came at a steady pace. It was a bit inconsistent between courses though. Sometimes only half our plates would be taken away even after we were all done. Sometimes only half our utensils were taken away(I know that if you leave it on the table they don’t usually take it away but I wasn’t aware that our utensils were getting replaced). This is just a nitpick but you would expect some more consistency with the amount you’re paying for. Overall we had a great time, and the duck shaped tin foil for the leftovers were a cute touch(though difficult to carry back home haha). I recommend going with a larger group, and definitely do family style!

After 4 years in Waterloo, I finally visit this place. Food is quite expensive, we’re talking about at least 30 per person. Our bill came out to around 80/person Food is good, I really liked the potsticker appetizer with scallops. They also had kusshi oysters with vodka as an app, that was ok, kusshis are my favorites but I feel like they missed the mark with that item. Service is great, the waiter I had was wonderful, very helpful and polite. Overall for the price it’s mediocre. There are better places I’ve been to for much cheaper. But in a place like Waterloo, options for fine dining are limited, so I don’t blame others for their ratings.

Waited the longest time to try this place. They’re only open after 5pm for dinner and is rather pricey for my over-30k-in-debt budget. Came here for a friends birthday and it was one of the best dining experiences in Waterloo. The décor of the restaurant is a big contrast to its store-front. It really made you feeling like you were in a cozy family owned restaurant in a tropical country. We started off with some appetizers and a bottle of riesling wine. The waitress was very patient with our large group of 9 and gave good recommendations. The entrees portions are really big so I would recommend skipping the appetizers. I had the surf and turf which was a red curry beef & shrimp w/jasmine rice. The dish was tasty but not mind-blowing as I was expecting. What really made Bhima a 5-star was the service. I casually mentioned that it was my friends birthday to the waitress and she surprised us all with a birthday dessert. The dessert was a banana tempera with vanilla ice cream covered in syrup. Our waitress also wrapped our leftovers to-go in the shape of a swan!(see picture). Overall she was very patient with our loud obnoxious college student group which is rare in this town. Will definitely be back to try more of their dishes! Highly recommended to anyone in Waterloo.

Thankfully some local friends knew about this diamond in the rough. Bhima doesn’t look like much until you walk up and see their lovely patio or walk in and smell the delightful aromas wafting over from their kitchen. You can just ignore the menu as they seem to regularly have quite a selection of daily specials which include cocktails, beers, appetizers, and entrees. If you can’t make up your mind there is a tasting menu with 7 micro courses. Everything is made fresh with great care, which means… You can’t go wrong.

Warm atmosphere with good food that was well presented. Staff was attentive and friendly. We sampled the appetizer plater and had the duck special as well, both were delicious. Also sampled a few featured cocktails that were presented with fresh fruit. Only thing I would mention as a drawback from getting 5 stars would be the exterior entrance and the need for a better fume hood in the kitchen. Would definitely return.

By far my favorite restaurant in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Located in a non-descript strip mall, you wouldn’t think that upon open the doors is a tropical paradise. The décor is exotically playful but tasteful. The immediate acknowledgement of the servers upon entry and seating was well received and consistent across the multiple visits I’ve had here. The primary server is always excellent but they seem to work as a well oiled team with prompt drink refilling, reorders and passion for great service and food. You can tell they love the restaurant and it makes me love it that much more. There are always great specials beyond the menu and as noted on said menu they’ll be happy to make old favorites if you can describe it. They are pleasantly flexible which is wonderful and appreciated. It’s also fun to see what’s going on in the open kitchen, gives a liveliness to the atmosphere. The food itself is wonderful, succulent poultry, tasty seafood in a flavorful sauces with little tasty sauces. It’s also plentiful as I’ve yet to leave without a take away box which helps out a bit considering the cost(which is absolutely 1000% worth it). This most recent time I went with duck and rice instead of pancakes and I loved it. My girlfriend went with a FULL chicken that was a massive wonderfully smelling savory nearly tray of awesomeness.
