I had a great time, and felt comfortable and secure. I received a gift certificate for hang gliding, and I was excited to try it out. I’d been paragliding once, from a cliff. In this case, instead the gliding is started from flat land, with a tow rope to get you up high enough(and then the tow rope is released). I enjoyed this more, since I had more time and the chance to control the hang-glider for a bit(with supervision, of course). We were in the air for fifteen or twenty minutes I think, and that was plenty long enough to get the feel for it. I can see how it would be addictive. Hang-gliding is dependent on the weather, so it took signing up more than once before we got an appropriate day. That’s just the nature of it, so it’s just good to have patience I think. The site is in the middle of a field; there was one group before and after me, and it was really quiet and personal. Mark is super friendly and knowledgeable, and I felt totally safe and secure. He’s great at putting people at ease, and making everything go smoothly!

Mark is a terrific guy altogether, which makes the flying thoroughly more enjoyable. I highly recommend Instinct Windsports for anyone who’s got«hang gliding» on their To-Do list.

I looked into trying out paragliding and found it difficult to find a place to learn in ontario. I never really considered the option of hang gliding, but was given a heads up about a tandem flight(teambuy deal) offered by Instinct. Turns out my friends and I were planing on heading to KW Oktoberfest, so it was no trouble to convince 4 of them to make it part of our adventure weekend. Prior to buying the vouchers I spoke with Ryan(one of the co-founders) and immediately could tell that he was going to make the experience a good one. Amid some scheduling issues which Ryan helped sort out(it’s very dependant on weather conditions), we were all stoked to have our flights booked as the weather seemed like it would be just perfect. I could tell Ryan definitly cared to make the experience personal for our group. A little bit tricky to find(as we expected), we rolled in on a beautiful autumn morning and cut across a sod farm where we could see one of the gliders in the distance. Greeted by Mark(the other co-founder) and Ryan we were excited to get started. They went over usuals with us, waivers, safety etc. and then the first of our group started to gear up. She looked a bit silly wearing a colourful ‘potato sack’ style harness. Not too long after she was pulled up in the air with Mark by a high-powered hydraulic winch. We were surpised at how fast it gets in the air, and amazed at seeing how high she got while freeflying(~1500 ft). Snapped some pretty amazing photos too. Actually at one point(and with the girl in our group who nervously screamed during take off), Mark spotted a Hawk followed it, enabling him to find a bunch of thermals, for a nice long soaring flight. She got the longest ride of all, and when she touched ground her comments were: Ridiculous and totally hooked! We all took our turns and were just satiated with the whole experience. Memorable moments: flying over a small forested area, looking down and seeing the changing leaves of multicoloured tree-tops. To top it off there was a small maple shack to be spotted in the middle of it all! One thing we all really appeciated was that our group of 5 were the only ones out there, so it did make for a very personal experience — completely the opposite of being ‘batched & processed’. We were able to joke with and hear some funny and intersting stories from Mark and Ryan(they have good ones to tell!). They’re great people with skill, confidence, a sense of humour, and a joy for the sport! I’m positive at least a couple of us will be back. Likely for one of the beginner intro sessions so we can learn how to fly!
