I have been here a few times and I will admit that compared to the other book stores the selection is slim in certain areas, especially for a big location such as this. I wasn’t impressed with the cooking section at all. They had some decent books, however, no specialty or smaller versions of the books. Prices are confusing between US and Canadian which makes it frustrating when going to the till. This is understandable, just not forgivable. This is a US owned book company, therefore, not overly surprised at this. Customer service has always been friendly.

From the huge Manga section to the massive Fantasy section built to mess with the heads of our youth, bringing darkness/evillll this bookstore along with its ‘stalkerish” employees has been bought out by the Bildeberg’s as the CEO apparently recently went to one of those meetings. Go% forbid you are in the uncomfortable section or EL James’ area when you are trying to have privacy… and a face grinning from ear to ear like a ‘demented old circus monkey’ — as King of Queens so aptly put it, comes at you right in your face to tell you something… that’s when I literally told them I needed my privacy and walked off. These stalker-like employees freak me out! Every few minutes there’s yet another person coming at you, in your face, near you, slithering up alongside of you… either there or pretending to find a book or ask you if you need help. I had 4 people in 10 minutes walk up to me. The final guy got the worst when I asked him to mention in the next staff meeting to not do this to all the customers like a tag team of stalkers. Last time I had someone literally following me through the isles until I turned around and told them to stop! The selection of books is usually mainstream which is annoying and no matter how many stores you check for stock — its never there. Go% forbid if unknown, independent writers, people who actually write their own books(no ghostwriters) be offered at this chain. Hollyweird is aplenty. Used books and independent books stores all the way!!! On another note. They hire mostly one or two ethnic grouped youth, a couple of minorities to fill their quota who are put on a very obvious sparse, horribly open and minimum hours weekly work schedule, and a couple middle agers, hardly any seniors… can you say, «nonexistent!»…very sad day when ageism and racism is alive and well in our so-called multicultural and educated society. On a good note: the non-book items are cool but $$$. The chocolate truffles are awesome. The ambiance is great. Chairs used to be there to browse, but have been removed because they need you to buy! buy! buy! and if you don’t they will follow you until you do!!! lol

Indigo is a huge book store and needs a huge foot print for all of their merchandise. Books are generally easy to find as they are sorted in areas by category. These days there are price disparities between US prices and Canadian prices and the two books I picked up only had one price but were actually 2 dollars more each upon checkout. I sort of expected that and for whatever reason I didn’t fight it but I did get that same thing happen to me at Anthropologie when I bought a book there and I was given the price on the book(35 vs 40). They have a plum rewards program but I don’t frequent the store enough to make it worth my while. My wife does though. The staff is very helpful and friendly so basically I’ve never had a customer service issue either at Indigo or Chapters(same company).

My daughter wanted a specific children book and the store showed 3 copies in stock. Shelves were empty. Staff said it’s still in boxes yet to be unpacked. Came in next day and still not unpacked but we were told to come back after the long weekend. So we did and now they can’t even find it and say they get shorted books all the time. They suggested another store which was 45 minutes away. I was told if I ordered online it comes from Toronto and takes 21 days. I went home and bought it from a place that rhymes with gamazon for cheaper with free delivery in 3 – 5 business days.

It was a scorcher out there today! So I thought: What’s the best thing to do when your place heats up like like a car engine in a traffic jam? Go to the mall. So, we found ourselves at Indigo books at Park Royal. Now, I firmly believe in buying used books when ever possible, and frequenting small independent book shops, but …(you know.) Indigo managed to entertain us for a good hour and a half with a great assortment of books on sale as well as some household and garden products. We got into the Political Science section and this caught the eye of Victoria, the very knowledgeable and forward thinking manager with some great tips on what books would be of interest to us. She was really terrific! I don’t know how people can remember so many facts and authors names and be articulate as she is as well. She told us about Pistachio, upcoming eco products made for Indigo. So, what can we say. Impressed. And, ya, there’s a darn Starbux in there too, and it’s a pretty cool looking one.

I am not too sure why Indigo is called Indigo… it’s very clear that Chapters owns it… the store looks exactly like a Chapters with an Indigo sign… what’s the point? Anyway… I had never been to this new location so I though I would check it out today… The store is HUGE… easy to navigate though and it has just about every possible section of books you could want… although I did have a hard time finding the arts section but a lovely young lady showed mew they way and even gave me a coupon for Buy 3 get one Free… not exactly the deal of the century but it was nice none the less… I also stopped into the Starbucks while I was there. very fast.no lines and my Egg Nog Latte was perfection!
