I ordered L’Omelette du Jour, it was mushroom omelette and very good. The place was empty and very comfortable time. My boyfriend ordered Cuisses de Canard confites aux Pommes Sarladaises, it was a juicy duck leg with sauted potatoes. We both loved it and would come back again. The location was absolutely beautiful too. Went for a walk on Marine Dr. and into the little shops next to the restaurant.

Last change to try the delicious food as the bistro is closing. Alain Raye has been unable to pay his staff, and many have left, filing Labour Standards claims.

The owner had a split with his wife. The chef went from the kitchen to the floor. Total chaos. I ordered Fois gras. I had something that looked like Oscar Meyer liver sausage!!! And tasted worse. After 45 minutes of waiting to place our main course we left. There were 4 in my group and the vote to leave was 4 – 0. It was once a fine place, but it has deteriorated into a confused mess. PS. They had the gaul to charge $ 20.00 for the Fois Gras liver sausage!

Balanced, flavourful French cuisine with ‘real’ French servers, casually elegant ambience and pleasant service. Fresh, perfectly seasoned, courses and huge entrees, perfect to share or take home for a splendid meal, the next day! Though the back patio is smallish, the setting, with a peek a boo view of The Georgia Strait, is quite lovely on a summer evening.

The Roasted Duck is outstanding and very flavorful, and is served with fruits. The portions for this dish is surprisingly very large. Just a warning they serve the duck on a hot pan, not plate. My family and I decided to order 3 different desserts; Peach Tart, Well of Love, and Monaco Tart. Our absolute favorite was the Peach Tart, we couldn’t get enough of it. The peaches were perfectly sliced, and the tart was nice and flaky. The Well of Love, is chocolate sauce poured over a very large meringue, served with ice cream. The last time I had this dish the meringue was too chewy. However, I was very pleased that this time, the meringue was a lot more airy in texture. My family and I were disappointed with the Monaco Tart. It was a dessert that consisted of toffee, almond chunks, and mascarpone cheese. I personally wouldn’t advised ordering this dessert.

We purchased a Groupon for $ 55 which included one appy, two entrees and a dessert for two to share. It seemed like a great deal with their regular menu being quite expensive. We were looking forward to a good French meal, but unfortunately that’s not what we experienced. We were seated outside which was nice as it was warm evening, and their patio contains only two other tables, so it was quite quiet. We wanted to order some wine, but the host explained that there was only one wine menu and we would have to wait until the table next to us was finished with it. The host then asked that table to pass it to us after they were done. Weirdness #1. Next our server(or busser, not sure) came and asked if we wanted to see a wine list and went and got one from inside. Apparently they have more than one. Weirdness #2. We ordered our food and wine: him, french onion soup to start, braised shortribs for main. Me, tomato tart to start, lamb shank for main. His soup was watery, not much flavour. He had to wait about 10 minutes for a spoon, watching the server deliver three spoons to the table next to us. Weirdness #3. My tart was good, buttery and flaky, but served with a small wilted salad covered in black olives. Mains were ok, savoury and good portions. Dessert was the cheesecake which was definitely not good. It had no cheese flavour and seemed to be made with whipped butter instead. While we ate our meals, the other table near us asked for pepper(the servers for our table and the other one had brought around a pepper mill) but the waitress delivered salt and pepper to them in shakers. Weirdness #4. The service was slow, inconsistent and it seemed like everyone was confused about what was to be sent where. At one point when cleaning off the table next to us, the host put down his clipboard and pen on our table. I found this quite rude as we were in the middle of eating. Anyway, if we didn’t have a Groupon, I would have been pretty annoyed, especially at the point when we got the bill and 17% gratuity had already been added to the total before discount. Fair enough, but for one, 17% is steep on bad service, and second, they don’t tell you about this little detail. Discount or no discount, we will not be back.

I’d like to echo the recent negative reviews for La Regalade. I eat out quite often with my partner. We had eaten here before and were quite impressed with the food. So when we were thinking of places to go tonight, we thought of La Regalade. Unfortunately that was a very bad decision. The warmth, ambience and experience has totally declined. We had a Groupon with us but ordered additional food and wine so we weren’t skimping by any means! The service was very bad. Our waitress, while pleasant did not know what customer service meant. She wasn’t able to communicate with us properly and would disappear at great length. It was painful to ask questions about the food. While the food was good, the lack of service left a bad taste in our mouth(no pun intended) When we ordered an espresso, it was basically a regular coffee in a expresso cup. Even the waitress admitted that it was bad espresso and we had to ask for it to be replaced by regular coffee. To top things off, they had the arrogance to automatically add a 17% tip on the bill. There wasn’t any advance notice. When we decided to question this, the owner came to our table and was very rude. His answer was«Adding the gratuity automatically is legal! I know what I’m doing!» When did tipping become mandatory? I’d always thought it was to the discretion of the consumer? So please Mr. Restaurateur — if you react so negatively to Groupon business please remove your restaurant from there! Also, please pay attention to all of the negative comments in this forum — there is a consistent theme. I will not be coming back to your restaurant and I ask any potential customers to be informed and take heed to all of the comments for this restaurant.

Title: La Degueulade Scene: family enters restaurant and discusses meal options. Little do they know, the grumpy waitress would be the bane of their existence for the next four(yes, four) hours. Act One: The Ordering The waitress came over to take drink orders, completely forgetting half the table. It took more than three attempts to get her attention and let her know we wanted beverages as well. When we started placing orders we told her it would be best to do everything separate, but she insisted that, ‘we eat and drink and worry about the bill later.’ That should have been her dying last words. Act Two: The Starters Now these weren’t so bad — not that I ordered any — but apparently the rest of the table looked hopeful. Did I mention that the Caesar salad had what looked like cardboard bacon on top? Or the bread that was likely a day old? Act Three: The Reckoning… Otherwise known as, the mains. So, I have a french friend and after looking at the menu he warned me not to order anything I had tasted before because it might not be traditional. I took his advice and ordered what I thought was a safe choice — med-rare lamb tenderloin with ratatouille. I was in the washroom while the mains were being served, and upon my return I was greeted by what basically looked like raw meat. I tried a bite, and another, and then quickly realized that the chef had made an awful mistake. I sent it back and when it returned it was not any better. The meat was young, with no flavour. I ate two more bites and called it a day. Did I mention it took about an hour for our food to hit the table? Act Four: Pay-up In any well-run establishment if you were so unsatisfied that you did not finish your meal then it would be taken care of… Not here. Three hours after first sitting down we asked for the bill, and it felt like another three to get it. We had to recite everything we had to the waitress(because she didn’t want to separate it at the beginning) and once we got the bill, as expected, the lamb was still on there. I am leaving out a lot of complaints from others at the table, but let’s just say I wasn’t about to tip since the experience and food worse than hot dogs at roadside gas station. On the way out the waitress has the nerve to call is out for not tipping. To say she was a bitch is being nice. The Final Scene: girl returns home after dinner feeling ill and thinks how much better it would have been better to order shitty Panago pizza and drink wine at home. Her french friend makes the ultimate conclusion — La Regalade should change its name to La Degueulade. For those without Google translate, that basically means vomit. End Scene.

I’m french and usually avoid french restaurant in Vancouver. in that case I made an exception and let me tell you, a big mac meal would taste better. Would have been faster cooking and serving the meat myself, I had to wait 2h30 at a table to get over price food, that I was forced to pay cash. I have never tried dog food but I think about trying to get a better comparison point… because dog food would have probably more flavour… one star is even too good for that place, but Unilocal would not allow me to remove that one. Please if you read me and you really like France and it’s gastronomy, for the sake of our culture. stop cooking!!!

After more than 5 years, this place continues to never disappoint and keeps giving the little extras to make any experience a great one. I recently got married on the beach and we had our reception dinner at La Regelade… both the staff and lovely owners went out of their way to make it a joyous experience. We knew we wanted no set menu, and wanted all our guests to be able to order whatever they wanted from appies, mains, to desserts, as we wanted no wedding cake, just beautiful classic French desserts. This was not easy for the kitchen to manage as they also had the other half of the restaurant open, but they pulled it off without a hitch. The experience was truly magical… and everyone left insanely full but very happy. I’m definitely a friend and a regular. You never disappoint!

La Regalade is our favourite French restaurant in greater Vancouver area. I would recommend as an appetizer the foie gras terrine(hot) with apples. For the entrée, we love the duck. And for dessert, definitely consider the well of love! For drinks, try the blueberry mohito! If you are on Groupon, you can occasionally see it there. Some tips, come early like just before 6:30pm and sit at the patio in front. Or come later when it is cooler and enjoy the sunset from their other patio with a view.

I honestly don’t know WHAT people are complaining about at this restaurant! From start to finish, we were totally impressed with the food. We came with a Groupon for two, so one appie, two entrees and one dessert. Everything was amazing. Even my boyfriend thought so, and he always finds something wrong with at least one thing in our meal when we dine out. But he loved all of it. Said it was the best meal out he’s had in a long time! We got the escargot as an appie, and the flavour was fantastic. For entrees, I got the roasted duck and he got the beef bourguignon. The beef was so tender and the duck was fantastic. The flavours in all of our food were outstanding. For dessert we shared the Moroccan tart which tasted like Almond Roca. So good! All in all, it was an incredible meal and we will definitely be coming back again… and again! To try the other items on the menu. Great job guys!

I liked this place but didn’t love it — would I return? Probably not! There’re too many other favorites of mine out there. My meal was good but for the price I would’ve rather eaten elsewhere.

While the food was very good the service was shockingly bad. The recent Groupon value is deceptive – it’s not possible to get the value listed. One of the servers was condescending in explaining the bill, and it was my gf’s parents who were treating us so it was really awkward and uncomfortable. They had added an automatic 17% gratuity which was also annoying. We left with a bad taste in our mouth and won’t go back.

I’ve been coming here ever since it opened with my family. Food is always good, but boy has service gone downhill. The server today was so bad I truly felt bad for the owner. I wonder if he knows his precious restaurant’s reputation is being tarnished by a few selfish employees who forget they are working in the restaurant industry where service matters. The server we had, Curtis, didn’t even address us for about 20 minutes until we basically grabbed him. His demeanor and expressions broadcasted how he hates his job and it made our experience unpleasant. Nonetheless, things got really ugly when we got our bill and I questioned why we were automatically charged 17% gratuity without being told beforehand. It wasn’t the amount, it’s the principle and manner which he put it on there without warning us(we had 5 people & it says nowhere that there is a mandatory gratuity). When I expressed this concern, he started to make snarky comments about how 17 percent is not a big deal to him and his friends lol! I couldn’t believe my ears so I respectfully suggested to him that he be more professional. He then proceeded to full meltdown mode and began trying to degrade us in front of other staff and customers! By the looks of some of the other reviews, it seems others have had their experiences ruined by Curtis before as well. I sincerely hope they can turn it around here as their food might taste a lot better without surprise bills and servers trying to degrade your table. Update: Owner has made it right. Very professional about it. You cannot always control your employees and sometimes you get a lemon.

My family’s favorite! The roast duck w/sautéed fruits is amazing and quite large so very easy to share. I live in Richmond and the treck out to West Van is still worth every bite. Make sure you don’t leave without dessert. The floating island(soft poached meringue w/caramel & almonds on a sea of crème anglaise) is my favorite!

**I am adding an update with 2 stars instead of 1 as we talked to the owner who was very apologetic about the server and pretty much all of what went wrong was based on that server and not necessarily the restaurant so I will give them some credit. Also to note that we didn’t receive any compensation but an apology speaks volumes** Such a shame. We have been to this restaurant as a family several times before and had good dining experiences, decent service and great food but after this weekend, don’t think I will ever be going back and will definitely not recommend it! An experience in a restaurant is greatly affected by the food quality of course, but also the service and bad service can ruin an evening. Such is the case with a recent visit to La Regalade. We did have a Groupon to use and it was Easter long weekend so it was very busy BUT, if you don’t want to accept Groupons, my thought is, you shouldn’t be selling them, and if you don’t want to accept our reservation when we tell you about it, maybe say so? Our server started off rude, and that continued throughout the night. Eventually, he actually stopped coming back to service our table and the bus boy had to(this was actually an improvement). At another point, we were asked when we would be leaving… to note, we had a 5:30pm reservation which we were on time for(anomaly for our family!) and when asked this, it was maybe 7pm. We ordered appetizers, entrees(each) and a couple desserts to share. When asking for a couple extra side plates for our desserts, were told they didn’t have any for us. We received a lot of, I believe, unwarranted, attitude from our server. I was with my older parents and in-laws and yes, they do ask a lot of questions, but aren’t they allowed to without getting eyes rolled at them? To add to it, for a party of 5 there was an auto-grat which I don’t mind paying but for this kind of service it was just ridiculous. Maaaaaybe we caught them on an off night and it was very busy. Maaaaybe it was just the server we got. Who knows, but I won’t be back to find out.

I stumbled upon this place once in the neighbourhood running some errands and had to give it a try as I’m a sucker for good french cafes. Upon arrival, I noticed that the décor is a bit outdated but still keeping an open mind. Lots of rooster garden statues with small wooden tabled with red tablecloths. My server was dressed in a private school girl outfit and reminded me of high school days! She was very friendly and quite attentive so no complaints about the service. I was impressed with the quality of the bread I received but the accompanying butter looked and felt like frozen so it was not spreadable on the bread. I ordered the soup of the day which was a leek potato soup with some smoked salmon inside, which was surprising. Overall the soup was ok but not worth the price. To give this place a fair review, I’ll have to come back for a proper dinner but so far not impressed!

The food laying under the heat lamp of 7 – 11 for many hours would have been more satisfying to my mouth, this is being very nice, building up to writing this review. Holy dog shit Batman, did that just happen, yes… it really did happen, and you are supposed to be high end dining, I don’t really know what you are supposed to be, but good… most definitely not(Oh KD I miss thee, with your powdered cheese and cute little maccaroni bits!), and everytime I think of this meal, grimacing is just one of the things I do, then fire like the volcano’s of the Hawaiian Island’s where lava is boiling out. Sometimes when you think you stumbled on a deal where it really becomes fools’ gold at least you can say, «I tried, and that was it» this was not one of those times where even the Groupon was not the saving grace. If you want to end a relationship with someone… come here, might as well end your night with shitty food. Why not complete the night, don’t bother bringing leftovers home. your pet may not eat it, really… So. why the rage and disgust? I ended up buying one of those Groupon deals, where I had to purchase two entrees. As I said, I don’t judge restaurants on if they are offering deals to clients, and for this one, I have never seen a deal. I brought my dear here, as we have tried the former spouse’s new restaurant on the west side. and if her food is solid… you’d think(damn you) that this place would be pretty good. She didn’t know where we were going. and then we got here. Charming little place on this night, we came early, so it wasn’t too full… and we were seated at this little glass corner, just enough for two people… you couldn’t even add another chair. There was a cute little black board outside, that was flipped for us to look at, as their menu… how cute. this is going to be a fun experience(yeah. talk about the rug being pulled from under your feet!). Due to the rules of the Groupon. we had to order more food than we liked. so we went with an appetizer(escargot) and two mains(gnocchi dish, and a grilled prime rib), and the wait was on. The first item that came was the escargots. It was small, but was a good starter. The presentation was average, not over the top… but remember. this is a bistro. They knew how to cook this, with the flavours of pesto and almond paste just made the dish memorable… this was the highlight of the night! The dish however was too buttery, and over oily… water was definitely being drank… to wash down the excess oil… so heavy. yes. but as I said. the highlight. The downhill came once the main plates started coming, the main event was definitely that… just not the way you thought. The first dish that came was the gnocchi with tomato, basil, mushroom, proscuitto… I watched as my dear took a bite of the housemade pasta and there was a semi-fowl look that developed on her face. Without one word coming out of her mouth she looked at me to tell me to try it… I stabbed a piece to try and was like wow… I make better gnocchi than this on my first attempt. Remember, I don’t cook, my dear does, and following a youtube video I was able to make these pieces of pasta better than this restaurant. These things were not pillowy soft, they were like the rubber bullets you fired at the rioters during the Stanley Cup riots, they were this bad. ok. one dud… then the next dish came. Prime rib. grilled… came out in a pan, didn’t the order say this was grilled? What does this mean? Cause all I saw was a piece of meat that was cooked, light brown… wasn’t this advertised as grilled? OK, forget appearance… what about the cut… this thing was also tough like a piece of old rubber… wtf! WTF! Where did you get your meat from… Superstore… what was this. discount meat. Dim lighting, ambience. you must be throwing a smoke screen at us thinking you can trick us with bad food. And the fries(frites) that came with this… did you guys leave this under the heat lamp the whole day before serving us… non-crunchy, dry as F. fried in duck fat. right… Think of the worst fries you have had… these things were dry on the outside… and grainy dry on the inside as well… Even the most simpliest thing was messed up here. Did I tell you that this dish came with something that resembled gravy. more like Au Jus of pure OIL! This gravy boat was filled with the liquid that was supposed to provide more pleasure to the meal, but instead provided anger and fire to our senses. Half of this so-called gravy was pure oil… There was no f’ing way we were eating anymore, my dear didn’t know what to do. and I called over our server, who called over a manager. they eventually took the two main’s away, and there was some excuse that this is the chef’s way to make these dishes. holy shit, dog shit be served! Take down the past rewards of this place… don’t believe the hype… and you call yourself a French restaurant. BLEH!
