Looking for a salon having moved back to the North Shore and using is NOT a good idea, sort of like playing russian roulette. The Business: Trendy and beautiful interior design. Owner works there alone. Nice location and street parking is fine. Has a steady stream of Caucasian seniors with the odd Persian looking for an eyebrow fix. Take CASH only though! No problem since banks are nearby but in this day and age, a receipt should ALWAYS be offered as well as visa and at the least Debit. *No Barbacide, cleanser for either two electric shavers/trimmers seen or used. One minute a senior male is being shaved and trimmed and cut in front of you, and the next minute the same shavers/trimmers/comb and scissors are being used on you too! Hygiene is important especially if you are doing men’s, women’s and seniors cuts!!! It’s also the law. The Owner: Nice, very helpful, easy-going, not too pushy like most to sell her products and does not provoke you to talk or be talked to unless you initiate. Does ask you where you heard about this place and is knowledgeable about — for me it was Unilocal but wasn’t sure of the address. I realize now it was the same place I was looking for originally. The Cut Conversation: Offered magazines verbally for haircuts and styles — didn’t want them but changed my mind and couldn’t find them. Told her I am getting a cut for a wedding next week. I have a salon where I used to live but moved. I usually ask what the hair stylist wants and then tell them what I like and what I absolutely want and don’t want. I also tell them past experiences and what I am presently doing or planning for my hair so that everything is covered as this was a new salon for me. I asked her opinion. Got the idea of what she thinks. Told her I am trying to grow out my hair and I trimmed my hair slightly a few months ago so it’s a little uneven. She mentioned she would have to go shorter in the back and that was fine. I didn’t expect nearly 3 inches off with no angle but pretty much a bowl cut with short layers! ! I asked for a gentle angled cut like I had had twice before, no pyramid shape structure, long layers(about 3 which is what I had), and to keep my bangs long — the idea was to grow out my hair. I didn’t say«not to short» bc they always cut it much shorter. In any case, I told her to be a little creative with it so she could relax and do her job. Result: What I got was the opposite! :”(I also got styling, shaving in the back, trimming, and in 25 years of not having a blow out — she did it as she told me to make sure to see if it was all even bc half way through I was telling her I like my curls and simple. I appreciated the accuracy, but not at the risk of having my scalp being burned(I didn’t say anything bc I thought that is how it should feel in order to keep the hair straight as long as possible so I endured it. As I left two senior ladies told me it was nice(OMG, not a good thing when seniors think your style is good!). I couldn’t pay debit or credit so she let me go to the bank to get $ 15.75 incl. tax — reasonable. I gave her $ 18(small tip even though she did the exact opposite of what i asked! The Truth: Hairstylists on the majority tend to be either hugely stubborn, generally deaf or just plain crazy! I have only met two people who actually listened. I walked out with a short bob with a couple of short layers, burned and stinging scalp and shorter hair which makes my roundish face look rounder. I have a pyramid shape style. It is a great cut if that is what you want but at a high cost bc I have to go to a wedding looking like a curly version Madeline with no bangs. I thought I would keep my mouth shut so I wouldn’t burst out crying and screaming at her. I cannot believe what she did to my hair! The next morning and through the night my scalp is still burning and neck feels like the trimmer cut it. I washed my hair and have a bowl cut which makes my face look fat and round and now I have to re-grow out my hair!!!

This salon is a great West Van secret! 6 of my coworkers get their hair cut here. They all have different lengths, textures and types of hair and everyone of them looks great. So I thought I’d give it a whirl. How can you go wrong for $ 15 a cut? Worst case scenario i– I’d just put my hair back into a ponytail if anything would go wrong. That had been my look so far anyway . I went after work today without booking an appointment and waited ½ hour. It takes the hairdresser 15 minutes to cut your hair. I went in a frizzy mess and came out with a sleek new haircut. In the past I’d gone and spent ridiculous amounts of money on haircuts from fancy salon. This stylist does an amazing job. She knows what cut suits your face. The girl before me was a teen and I’m middle aged. Both of us left looking and feeling great. I gave the stylist $ 25 instead of $ 15 but looking back l should have given her more. Definitely give this salon a chance!
