The store is nice and has decent selection, but the staff are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Stood in line at «Customer Service» for 10 to 15 minutes all while being ignored(the 2 cashiers working at the time could clearly see me standing there). Finally got in the queue with my item to return, which they told me I need to process the return at an empty register. Cashier had to page Norma 3 times before she finally came up to process my return. Two weeks later I show up to do another return, this time on an item I purchased in Pickering using my Amex card through Apple Pay. My god, trying to explain to them why the card number on the receipt didn’t match the physical card(they refused to accept the Device Account Number from the phone, despite it matching). Finally with the manager’s help who still herself didn’t understand it, allowed me to do the return. I then attempted to buy something not 5 minutes later with the same cashier who told me «we can only accept credit cards» and wouldn’t let me pay using my mobile device. This store either needs to do a serious customer service refresher course, or let everyone go and re-hire competent employees.

I was heading to Cobourg to eat my mom’s home cooking on her urban farm, so my baby daddy and I decided to take advantage of the suburban box stores. Before hitting the road, we phoned the three Toys R Us with Babies R Us locations between TO and Cobourg and were told this Whitby location was the largest. Entering this type of store can be intimidating, but we had a hot little list in our hand and were determined to grab as many big ticket items as possible. Boom. This location had every specific we needed plus a couple of cute little extras and was a lot larger than the downtown locations.

Decent sized store with fair prices, and will price match competitor’s pricing. However, often items are out of stock and staff surly when you ask them for help. They also persistently pester you for donations at the cashier, making you feel uncomfortable if you say no. I’m not sure if the cashiers are given targets as to how many customers they need to get to make donations, but it feels like they do. When stuff is in stock they often have a great variety of items, including many hard to find sets or ones exclusive to Toys R Us, which at least makes it worthwhile to try here.

Good staff there. I had to go for the all-important Christmas gifts for my girls. Toys R Us at Christmas? I was dreading it! I was also wrong. All the cashiers were present and working hard, and the floor staff were really helpful. I don’t like shopping as a rule, but I’ll be more optimistic shopping there in the future. Good work!!!
