Min Hua Restaurant

We ordered two meals for delivery tonight, when we placed our delivery order we were told 45 minutes, it took 1 hour 40 minutes to receive our food. The food did arrive hot which was surprising after how long of a wait we had. When we opened up our order we noticed that the gravy for the soo gai was not with our order so we had to call and wait another 20 minutes for that to arrive, when the driver arrived with it he seemed annoyed and didn’t say a word to us.
The food itself was very sub par compared to the many other Chinese restaurants this city has to offer. The fried rice was hot and mostly very bland except for the pockets of soy sauce that we’d come across in it. The sweet and sour chicken balls were alright if you ignored the fact that the sweet and sour sauce was extremely sweet and not even a hint of flavor besides the sweetness. The gravy for the soo gai was better off being forgotten since it was nothing more than thickened soy sauce with a very small amount of garlic and little bits of noodles that came from god knows where. The vegetable lo mien we ordered was also flavorless and dry.
The person taking orders over the phone was quite pleasant and when we called about the gravy he seemed surprised that it took so long for us to receive our order.

We ordered take-​out from this newly opened spot tonight, having spent the last week excitedly walking by and wondering when they might open. Min Hua represents another exciting step in the diversification of Erie street so we had high hopes.
We ordered General Tao chicken, Szechaun chicken, Won Ton soup, and steamed rice. Szechaun chicken was fine, nothing exceptional. The Won Ton soup was great, well-​balanced with fresh gingery won tons, studded with bbq pork and fresh green onions. The General Tao was wonderfully spicy, though we did feel that the plastic container caused it to lose some crunch — we’ll dine in next time we want this dish.
My husband and I are looking forward to making our way through the rest of the menu!
