5 of us went for dinner on Saturday night. There were 2 vegetarians in the group and one had the pasta, another the veggie burger. Both were very disappointed with their tasteless food. When one person complained that the burger had no taste, the waitress simply responded«oh» and left the table. The others had appetizers and the burgers. The popcorn shrimp was very greasy, the tempura roll was subpar, and nobody was impressed with their food. We ended up going elsewhere for dessert. We were hoping to try a tasty new restaurant, but instead had terrible food at high prices. So many better places to try in Winnipeg.

Went there last night as a last minute decision and we were glad we did. Best tuna roll ever and the muscles in the garlic pepper lemon broth was fantastic. I will be definitely be going back. So nice that there is such a quality restaurant in our neighborhood.

Have been to the Capital several times and found the food and service to always be excellent. They source as much of their food locally as possible. New York Steak: fantastic flavour, prepared perfectly. One of the finest I’ve had in the city. Capital Burger: Who doesn’t love a good burger? The Capital Burger is as good as it gets. Packed with flavour from the foccacia-style bun all the way in. Crab Cakes: A great appetizer packed with crab(no filler) and a surprisingly remarkable apple jullienned(?) apple salad. I’m not one to go for apples, I wanted more of it! For a lighter snack you can’t go wrong with the Tuna Roll. The very lightly battering makes this a step up from the run of the mill served elsewhere. Have had 3 different soups, each has been outstanding. Good selection of beer and wines.

Based on my meal it would be 1 star as the frittata was bland the small handful of salad had little dressing. Hubbies burger was great. If you go have the burger. We won’t be returning.

Having read really great reviews about this place, I decided to take my husband here to have lunch. I was surprised to see the restaurant being a little empty, and I guess the likely reason is because not many people know about this place yet. This place used to be the old Asahi restaurant, so they did a great job in renovating it. We were greeted by the server immediately and was taken to our table. Our server was really great and checked up on us often to make sure we were doing okay, and refilled our waters without us asking her to. I knew right away that I was going to get the beer battered halibut and chips($ 18) and the husband got the angus beef burger($ 12) and added cheddar($ 1.50) and bacon($ 1.50). Aside from cheddar, you could also get swiss or blue cheese, and back bacon instead of bacon. You can also add avocado, grilled onions, or mushrooms for the same price as the other add-ons. My fish and chips came with two pieces of beer battered halibut, house cut fries, housemade tartar sauce, and coleslaw. At first bite, I was completely floored by it. It was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and even my husband thought so too. He couldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was. The batter was light and crispy and wasn’t overly greasy or heavy. The halibut was meaty and tender. The coleslaw was not overly dressed and had a slight tang to it, which I liked. The tartar sauce was also made really well, as it wasn’t too tangy. The husband and I shared our dishes, so I got to try his burger. His burger was really flavourful and juicy. Aside from what he added to the burger, it also came with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and sliced red onions. The focaccia bread(which I think they used) was toasted. It was, however, a bit messy due to the tomatoes, which caused the juice to drip onto my hands and plate. Overall, a really great experience and I definitely recommend trying the fish and chips, if you can’t decide on what to order.

What a great addition to not only the neighbourhood, but the Winnipeg restaurant community. A wonderful, cozy little grill/bar with a limited but very interesting menu. We had reservations which was a good thing as it was reasonably busy. I started with the soup of the day. A zesty tomato basil soup with a garnish of feta. Wonderful! Still a little chunky and rich bold flavours. I really enjoyed it. It seems a bit of a rip off though to charge a buck fifty for a side of bread. For my main I went for the Angus burger with blue cheese. Awesome. Exploding with flavour, tender, juicy and a great bun(focaccia?). I can still taste it. The fries, which I heard rave reviews about, were just ‘okay’. The first order was a little cool and under-seasoned(I tried one of our group members and his were great). I mentioned it and in short order I had a new bowl of hot, crispy fries. Sadly though under seasoned once again. When mentioned I got a bowl of seasoning so all was good! Others in our group had the daily special, a pleasant pickerel dish, the tuna tempura roll(love the light batter on the outside but a bit chewy on the inside and bit short on flavour) and the cypress grilled cheese sandwich(very enjoyable) So overall a good first impression and the answer to the ultimate question is: «yes, we will give it another try»
