Food 4, service 2. And pricey! Waitress didn’t know the menu. Cashier overcharged by 15 percent. 3 orders didn’t arrive. Appetizer dishes came AFTER dinner plates. Food wasn’t served for 45 minutes after the order. Bad management all around, and phone call orders were standing while the manager had no clue. What is the owner thinking? Avoid.

Pricey and small portions, don’t waste your money here. No wonder why the restaurant was empty on a busy lunch day.

Seems like Clay Oven doesn’t have a rep for good service but my first visit to their Inkster location was great! I was warmly greeted by the staff when I dropped into order some take out. The staff were helpful in suggestions and even offered me water and tea as I waited for my order. Comparatively, their prices are higher than the usual Indian joints I patron but I was happy with my food order so no complaints here. I ordered a few samosas, garlic naan($ 2.59), a regular sized butter chicken($ 14.99) and the masala lamb chops(16.99). I probably should have asked for a spicier preparation as my dishes came out pretty mild. The samosas(veg) were massive, delicious and inexpensive(I think they were only $ 0.75 each)! The shell was crispy and flaky and the fillings were full of potatoes and yummy spices. Lovely, but just keep it to 1 samosa or else you’ll be too full! The garlic naan was dressed with lots of minced garlic and tasted delicious even after a drive home so I’m sure it tastes even better fresh. The butter chicken is always a fav with me — who can resist this popular Indian dish? I really enjoyed the super tender white meat — probably the most tender that I have ever had! And they remained tender the next day after a go in the microwave too. The sauce was good but tasted sweeter than I like and had more tomato flavour coming through. I would order this again but probably ask for this to be made spicier. My favourite dish has to the masala lamb chops! OMG, I would drive out to Inkster for this and I don’t live or work anywhere near here! A dish ranks up there with me, when I still think about it days after I’ve consumed it! LOL. You get 6 lamb chops in the most addictive sauce. The lamb chops were average size and super tender as its marinated in yogurt. The dish has garlic, ginger, onions, red peppers and spices and yields a very complex and layered sauce. I kept the remaining sauce even after I finished the chops so I could pour it onto rice for other meals. Definite standout dish! The meal came with a generous portion of delicious vegetable biryani rice. The restaurant is located in the Inkster Industrial area, across from the Sobey’s warehouse. There is no buffet, something that is synonymous with most Indian restaurants in the city. Too bad. Anyhow, the interior seems newly renovated and looks very bright and clean inside. On a side note, I have tried their Kenaston location but had a terrible experience as everything ordered was in skimpy portions and very oily. I don’t think I’d ever go back to the Kenaston one as I am way more impressed with the Inkster location.
