My friend and I recently enjoyed a fantastic brunch at Moxie’s. We actually were going to have lunch but their brunch menu looked so good we had to try and was pleased we had. I had the Pancetta & aged cheddar benedict — the fruit was amazing(fresh ring of pineapple, with ½ an orange, strawberry and grapes) the remainder of the meal was very good. My friend had the smoked bacon and aged cheddar omelette that was served with wonderful sliced bread. Who would have thought Moxie’s for Brunch.

My wife and I love to stop and share the Chicken Enchilada for a quick lunch when we are at the St Vital Mall.

Moxie’s focuses on superior food quality so says their website. Not true yesterday. Took my parents out for a birthday celebration. The server went over the specials. The special of the evening was the New York but she left the table without saying the price of the«special». So i ask the price. She says, oh I don’t know and leaves. Comes back and says $ 28.99. I look at the menu and it says 28.99. So I say well, what makes it special today? Nothing, we just bring it to your attention, she says. Really? So we order. 2 ordered ½ rack ribs @ $ 15.99, 1 a New York Sreak @ $ 28.99, and 1 fish n Chips @ $ 15.99. The meals come out pretty quick, and my parents look at their meal and start to laugh. The server told them their vegetables were«mini cabbage»… Brussel Sprouts… Anyway, both ribs were room temperature, and called the server over. Instead of picking up the plates, she says, «I’ll go get the manager» In the meantime my steak is overcooked and seriously reminded me of Bonanza steak. Horrible. $ 28.99? no way. 15 minutes go by, and the manager now comes to the table all smiles, and get this, with ONE rack of ribs on a plate. Im like, well dude, the rest of the dinner is cold now, its been 15 minutes. He says, and I kid you not, Oh i thot you would be eating them while the ribs were cooking… I said, Sorry… NO, please make two new plates and this steak is blah blah blah… 15 minutes… The 3 meals come back, HOT this time, and not overcooked steak. Manager never came back to the table. BUT he did comp the 3 bad meals, The fish n chips? GREAT! 1 out of 4 Chef Chen EDITED: The Moxies people got back to me and I had a VERYGOOD talk with the manager. He was MOSTDISTURBED, and offered me a VIP come back, so we are going back and see what happens! GOODFORTHEM for caring.

We decided to meet my mom for a birthday dinner for my fiancée. What a mistake. We attended on a busy Saturday night, and our server Sunil performed well for a full location. I’m sure my moms meal and my fiancée’s meals were okay as my meal was 20 minutes late and I was forced to watch them eat it. Water was not brought out as part of the meal. Not a big deal but we did have to ask for some later. The décor was full of nicks and rubs, the table corners rubbed bare from bumps and scrapes. We arrived at 19:45 and placed our orders at 8:05. The meals did not arriveduntil 20:25 which is not unreasonable. I was advised at this time that my meal would be a FEW minutes late, and I wasn’t concerned at all. I had ordered their blackened steak 10 oz prepared Chicago style prepared medium rare. In reality, Moxies considers a few minutes late as 20 minutes late. At 20:30 my family was half done their meals and I was still waiting for my meal to show up. At 20:44 it showed up rare, so naturally I complained. Sunil had apologized and I advised him that I was not indending at all to have to pay for this meal, and he agreed. The on duty manager arrived after to deliver my steak and I advised him that I would not be paying for it. He did not appear to be aware of this but instead of making an argument he went to talk to Sunil. They took it back at 20:46 and I got it back at 20:55. Finally, med rare at 30 minutes after everyone was finished. They failed to return my steak knife and I was forced to cut it up with a butter knife. Dessert and my dinner were removed from the final price. What surprised me is that they do not provide a loaded baked potato, and only offer one, what I must assume, much previously prepared potato. It wasn’t bad, but as a starch dish, was lacking flavor and appeal. The asparagus and beets that came with the steak were thin and looked as sad as I did upon seeing them, much like a guest who has thrown up on your plate. The steak was thin, and I am left to wonder how the other 6 oz of the steak disappeared while cooking it. I did not order dessert as I was afraid whoever was working in the back preparing it would deliver it at midnight and it would arrive warm. My fiancée failed to finish her dessert as much of it tasted stale, as if prepared the week before and left to form a skin. Dessert was fail. Biscotti stale, not dry. We left our server a good tip, but if you care about a decent dinner, avoid this place like the plague and do yourself a MAJOR favor, and any guests you wish to impress, and go to Maxime’s just a little further up St. Mary’s avenue. I’m sure the meals will be prepared on time and as ordered. Not 30 minutes after your family has finished theirs. For a 27 dollar steak meal, do yourself and favor and go elsewhere. Thanks Moxies. Much like your sad sad meals, the entire experience was underwhelming and much too late to change my opinion now. I can only pray that someone pastes this article in your window so other people with reasonable expectations can avoid the disaster that you call a dining experience. If you are reading this on a smart phone, the link to a real restaurant is below : Run, run as fast as you can out of Moxie’s before they take your order and you are subjected to some nightmare they call a meal.

I agree on the décor being nice, but I would rather have good quality food at a good price. This location is likely the worst moxie’s in town, I figure if it was not for the mall it would have shut down long ago. On the two occasions I have made it here I have been disappointed with the food, and will not be going back for a third round.

Dined in the main dining room on their Monday wing nights only to be told that the price is only applicable in the lounge. WTF?!? How stupid. I’ve been to other restaurants that also offer wing nights and I have always been able to get their wing night specials no matter which room I dine in. I tried the wings anyways, the hot wings were not really spicy at all. In terms of wings, I like the smaller crisper wings, these wings were on the meaty side. Not my kind of wing but I’m sure other people like that. But, overall, I am not a fan of their food… everything’s either too salty or underseasoned. The chicken enchilada is apparently a favourite here but to me, it was just a plate of melted cheese… you could do better at Taco Bell for a fraction of the price. The steak here is okay, it’s usually cooked properly which is a plus for them but I find the steaks to be too salty. Although I do like the stuffed potatoes that comes on the side — very rich spud… fattening but good. This particular Moxie’s is located in St. Vital mall and is more quiet compared to the standalone locations. The staff here look like they’re just out of high school — not the sharpest kids on the block but they were nice. But service was brutal… never asked if we wanted any more drinks or even bother to refill our waters. Moxie’s is okay for lunch and maybe a drink, but for dinner, I’d rather head somewhere else.

Great food, great service. The atmosphere and décor are superb. The staff is friendly and some of them are a pleasure to talk with. The price is good. All around good experience.
