Once Upon a Child

I had an absolutely terrible experience here.
I drove all the way to their Transcona location (halfway across town for me.) with four bags of either new or gently used items. The staff informed me to come back in an hour and a half after they had appraised my items. We briefly browsed at the store and were not impressed; it was crowded and hard to navigate with a stroller, and the clothes seemed overpriced for used items. I noticed that several items were not in the greatest condition and many clearly looked used.
I returned and the staff member was quite snooty and rude. She told me that my items should have been sorted in bins, not bags, and claimed most of my items were «stained or pilled, or «overly loved» which I know to be untrue, as some I had literally just taken the tags off or they were worn once. They had a litany of items they did not take, including bibs, socks, «holiday items «(Reason given that they get mixed up with the other items, which made absolutely no sense to me.) None of this info is on the website, and the staff in the store either looked grim or acted very snobby and condescending. They gave me 7.68 for 3 or 4 items. One was a beautiful dress worn once. and originally retailed for 60.00!
I was so shocked I took the money and left, but now wish I had taken all my items and let them keep their 7 bucks.
When I retuned to my vehicle, it seems that the items in the bags I checked were still in the same places I left them. I have the feeling they appraised one or two items, then didn’t bother with the rest.
I am not recommending this store to anyone and will never return, which is unfortunate for this franchise as we buy a lot of children’s clothing. I also plan to email their head office.
All in all, I wasted time, money, and energy to drive across town for 7.00. Judging from many of the substandard items on their shelves, I don’t think they should be so picky. I can get brand new items at other stores for the same price or less!
I worked retail for several years, and can say that the customer service and atmosphere at this store was appalling. «never again» would be an understatement as to how I felt about my experience.
I took my daughter’s clothing to charity, where someone will truly appreciate them.
