Omfg! This place is a find of a lifetime. Food is cared for like no others. Love of creation is foremost in their minds and delivers to the customers pallet. Incredible farm to table consciousness. Busy and noisy is just fine as the food experience is overwhelming all the senses. Do not pass up the charcuterie board, pork chop or the world’s tastiest tourtière.

1st time tonight for birthday, my wife’s friends have gone and loved it — I went and loved it great service waiter from Victoria/Calgary great kid. Loved the décor the booths had a window table for two great– The chicken livers were amazing the sauce was so good. We then had calamari, not a fan but loved this dish lightly breaded and again the sauce amazing maybe best calamari ever. We then z the charcuterie the best appie, dinner dish I’ve had in yrs. The sausage, pâté, duck, meat, mustard, pickle, asparagus amazing. YOUCANTELLEVERYSAUCEMEATISMADEFROM Scratch 2 thumbs up

Excellent service. Food definitely not worth the price. Bread with butter was good. Some bread was plain some wasn’t. Spinach salad was good. Salmon with risotto was good but risotto wasn’t really risotto. Fish and sticks were awful. The fish was so oily and gross it was soaking with oil it has retained and I only ate one piece and hours later I still feel sick and gross. I would not recommend this place.

Interesting, tasty dishes served with formal friendliness. Spoilt by the numbing and impersonal background sounds of «smooth jazz» on high rotation. Please be a bit more imaginative(or at least attentive) about the music.

Food seems pretty good. I had the burger with cheese; which was ok… A little salty… but not terrible. The device was ok. I ordered an iced tea and never got it. Server came off as aloof, but warmed up to us about the time we were done. The fries were tasty though. I would try it again… Maybe it’s an off day.

Solid staple of the dining scene. Great consistency, excellent food, terrific cocktails. Wednesday night buck-a-shuck.

I had dinner here last night with my husband and another couple and I hate to only give it 3 stars, but one member of our group had a horrible dinner. If they were writing this rating, it’d be 1 star, possibly 0 stars if that is possible. I had the brisket, it was amazing and the portion size was generous, I shared parts of it with other because it would’ve been difficult to finish on my own. Let’s get to the big issue, the poor soul that order the steak. At $ 33 it’s not the most expensive steak in the world, but certainly not the cheapest either. It was ordered at medium rare and came grey and well done. The grey colour was unappetizing and should have set off an alarm. I suggested it get sent back, but they he hates sending food back and trudged forward. So in fairness to the restaurant they did not have a chance remedy the situation. It’s of some concern that on such a small menu the steak was almost inedible. It’s now the morning after and it has been declared«the worst steak I’ve ever had,» after he spent the most of night in the bathroom. Service was friendly. There’s a coat check, but we had to retrieve our own coats at the end of the night. If you avoid the steak you’ll probably be a very happy patron. If you choose to order it after having read this, be prepared to spend the evening making multiple trips to the bathroom with an upset stomach, you’ve been warned.

One of my all-time favorite restaurants. My husband is from Winnipeg and whenever we visit we make time for a Peasant Cookery experience. Their cocktails are incredible and food will leave you counting the days to your next visit. The atmosphere in the dining area and bar lounge is warm and elegant, and the waitstaff are professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Some show-stoppers include: Berkshire pork chop, charcuterie board, and the smoking jacket cocktail. The chèvre cheesecake and the Alsace? Mouthgasm.

As a visitor, I’ve been here twice and quite enjoy the Peasant. Last night we had a deep discount on quality wine(down from $ 70). Maybe it’s a Tuesday thing, but it worked. We had 5:15 reservations(yes, I know) and the place was full(for a Tuesday) within an hour. I had the brisket, and it was really good. The meat was tender, the potato salad was great, but the beans were maybe undercooked(read al dente) and heavy on cider vinegar(very Carolinian, but I prefer more balance). A little more brown sugar would have been nice, but that’s just my taste. The bread and butter are fantastic — always fresh. Servers are knowledgeable, friendly and accocmmodating.

There were numerous dishes on the menu that were very tempting, and the service was wonderful. Unfortunately, the dishes were not described well, leading us to some disappointment. First, my husband had the pork with a side of mac & cheese. The pork was delicious but the mac & cheese had an overwhelming taste of nutmeg, not mentioned, and frankly inedible. They generously replaced this with mashed potatoes which were, unfortunately, infused with horseradish. Again, there was no mention of this and it was not to our liking. However, the coffee & dessert made up for all of it. If you like a tart & tangy flavor, you’ll love the deconstructed sheep cheesecake with sour cherry sorbet and short bread cookies!

After visiting twice in the last week, I feel it’s about time to buckle down and review. This place is fairly unassuming from the outside, but the ambiance in both the dining room and the lounge is really nice and cozy! Both of my visits were on Wednesday nights. These were strategic decisions as it was ***drumroll please*** $ 1OYSTERNIGHT. Yay for oysters! I am a fairly new passenger on the oyster train, but I can confidently say that the oysters here are the best I have ever had in Winnipeg. They bring horseradish, lemon, tobasco, and most importantly this amazing garlic vinegar with each order. I actually want to bottle that vinegar, bring it home with me, and put it on absolutely everything. It is amazing. I also ordered mussels on both occasions. They change their mussel preparation daily, which is nice because the flavour profile of the dish is never the same! Below are the different preparations we tried: Lemon, white wine, onion, and thyme: Very citrus-y anda acidic, definitely needed a creamy component to the sauce. The accompanying fries were the star of this dish. Wouldn’t order these again. Beer, cheddar, and cream: Couldn’t really identify the beer taste. Very creamy with chunks of white cheddar as opposed to a cheesy creamy sauce. Better than the first time, but still not a dish I would order again. **the fries that come as part of the dish are always delish. I forget which wine it is, but I DO know that it is the very last red on the first page of the wine list. Luis something… It is only $ 30/bottle and is so easy drinking and delicious. Definitely recommend trying it! Service is pretty standard. No real comments there.

The bar at the peasant cookery is across the hall from the dining area and I would recommend it over the regular eating space. It is much cosier and the fireplace in the corner makes the place feel very comfortable. It is also a pleasure to watch the bartenders mixing drinks and chatting to people. I am always a sucker for specials and when I heard the special was Panzanella(a favourite salad of mine) we had to order it. We ordered: –French onion soup –gnocchi –panzanella –2 drinks(old fashioned, ginger pear) The French onion soup was great and the gnocchi was fabulous. My wife and I found the panzanella was nothing special, but the drinks made up for that. We also have good service and the bartender was patient while we tried to figure out what cocktails we wanted. We expected that to portions would be small and more costly than the places we usually eat. This was true, but weren’t sure if the quality of the food was worth the cost. This is the only thing that stopped me from giving it 4 stars.

DISCRIMINATEDAGAINST! My wife and her friend recently had lunch here. This was not their first time, but it was their last. The meal was fine, but the experience they had with their server was appalling. My wife asked the server if they have weddings there as my sister in law is getting married next year. The server answer«Yes, but it’s very expensive. There was a group of 13 people here and they spent $ 9000. So it’s very expensive.» and proceeded to give my wife a up and down look. WTF! My wife turned to her friend in shock and asked«What the hell was that?» My wife’s friend’s respsonse«It’s cause you look poor.» After hearing this, I emailed feedback right away. Turns out this server was the GM. WOW. The restraurant and Wow Hospitality sent their apologies and explanations. But seriously, I don’t thinkt here is anything they can say or do that would convince us to ever go back there. We’ve now shared this story to many of our family and friends and have their support on never going back there either.

Super enjoyable dinner time. We were seated outside, and had a very nice server. Got lots and lots of food — the charcuterie, oysters, and smoked salmon for appetizers, and I got the fish, while my friends got the gnocchi and… I forget. Something meaty. Anyways. The charcuterie was super rich, with a good variety. Perhaps a little too rich. The smoked salmon was the cooked-smoked type, and was quite pleasant. Oysters were fresh, though not especially strongly flavored. Then we get to the main course. The fish was slightly overcooked, but everything else on the plate was great. The gnocchi… now I get it when people say«pillowy soft gnocchi.» They were fluffy, but still had tooth to them. Lots of other restaurants I’ve been to have gnocchi that literally melt in your mouth, and those always seem way to insubstantial and unsatisfying. It was getting a bit cold outside at this point, so our server moved us into the now-uncrowded inside. We sat around and had a selection of desserts. The profiteroles were solid. The crème brûlée got a thumbs up. And the goat cheese cheesecake was super rich and delicious. Almost a little too rich. We also got a new server inside. A super hot server. All sophisticated and friendly, mature and charming. Whoooooooo give me a fan. So yeah. It was a good experience. The portion sizes were(thankfully) sensible, otherwise we would have exploded. Service was lovely. The food was generally excellent, although sometimes a bit too rich. I definitely felt fooded-out at the end of it.

First time here and very much enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere of the dining room is excellent. The numerous jars of freshly pickled veggies and the large feature clock cabinet, along with the creatively styled booths all add to the ambiance We decided to split three of the appetizers for our meal and that was a good decision. Enough food and a great mix of flavours. We started with the charcuterie and the plate’s all-star was the pâté. Mmmmm delicious. The ‘main course’ was the beet salad and the feature mussels. Fantastic. The beet salad was excellent. We were split on the feta cheese. I wanted one with a it more zing where as my wife loved the mildness. The mussels in a spicy wine sauce were very good, although we had a couple of shells that were not open. That should have been picked up before leaving the kitchen The house bread is good, although we thought an olive oil or herbed butter would have even better than regular butter. The white wines were not chilled when mentioned we got a bit of a blank look witha«I’ll pass it along» reply. Both the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay were young and lacked depth. The Nero d’avola, as recommended by our waiter, was good. A good find worth a return visit!

The food here is delicious! We started off with the beef tartar — capers, pickles, mayo, shallots for 9.99 as well as oysters. Both were quite fresh and delicious. When the server finally came back 2 hours later(not even joking, but we knew her so we cut her slack and it was her first day with a full section inside and outside on the patio, insanity if you have ever served before) we also order our main courses. I had fish with an amazing sauce on top of corn and other assorted veggies. Everything was really fresh, nice presentation and tasted great! I think the menu might change ever so often as I took a look online and I can’t find this dish anymore. We sat on the patio and in typical Winnipeg fashion there were a bunch of ‘assorted folk’ walking around the exchange, but they didn’t bother us. The restaurant had a nice décor and was packed on a Monday.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Peasant Cookery. I love that everything is made in house: the butter, the bread, the meat on the Charcuterie platter. Even if something is not made in house they can tell you where it came from. Though a warning: we were served pig face on a Charcuterie platter once so if you are not terribly adventurous you can ask that they keep that item off. The first time I went there we had our now favorite waiter and everything was perfect: the food, the service, the drinks & his masterful pouring abilities. It was fantastic! The next time we went there we had the same waiter and once again EVERYTHING was perfect! The first time I went I had the Profiteroles but didn’t like the pastry when I told the waiter that he brought me out a bowl of ice-cream with the amazing chocolate sauce. It isn’t on menu but they do that upon request. Now on our third trip we went with several of our friends and we had a waiter who was also waiting on the bar. We were pretty much ignored. The food was mediocre; my friend who ordered the Tourtière was not informed they make it sweet and not traditional, my husband and his equally large friend were not told what they ordered was a small portion, and our water was never refilled. It was an amazingly disappointing experience. We have been back a few times since then and the service has never been as bad as that third trip but we have found that if our favorite waiter isn’t waiting on us then the service is good but not amazing. The food is wonderful on a good day and I recommend this restaurant to everyone for dinner! For anyone with kids: there is no changing table in the bathroom there is only a bit of space in between the sinks. There is also on 1 high chair, if your child needs one call ahead a reserve it or you might not be able to use it.
