The hallways and elevators in this place are run down and reminiscent of The Shining, but the room was completely renovated. Also, it’s huge! Full kitchen(fridge, stove, toaster, keurig [coffee included], microwave, dishwasher), living room, TV and an incredibly comfortable king size bed. During the brutal Winnipeg winters, you can hide in bed here all day. Wifi is free and quite fast for those who need to do work, browse fb, or do some private browsing before bed. Good rate through hotels app and walking distance(10 – 15) to Exchange District and the Forks. Parking is in a covered multilevel structure and is an additional $ 11 per night, is self park, and had in/out privileges(not unlike you let sister). Would stay again. Great value.

I stayed at the Place Louis Riel Suite Hotel last night. I stayed here in May and liked it. The suite($ 129/night) was fairly big. WIFI was free and speedy. Parking was self-parking in a garage which was attached to the hotel and was $ 11/night. It was fairly late when I arrived so it was great that I could pop some microwave popcorn that I’d brought(there is a full kitchen). As an FYI, the building has been sold and in the new year the suites will be rented out as apartments rather than functioning as a hotel … apparently there is an apartment shortage in Winnipeg.

Hotel I picked this place on the strength of the Unilocal reviews as it was one of the options presented on my corporate reservation system and the cost was very favorable. An older building, the Place Louis Riel can be a little off-putting at first– after I made the reservations, some colleagues in the area warned me that the place was not great– they clearly hadn’t been in there. The check in folks were just super friendly and explained the parking and all that stuff. got my room key and directions and was on my way up in a few minutes. The room was better than expected. Apparently this place is going through a top to bottom renovation and each room is essentially an efficiency apartment. I believe they are actually in the process of changing over to a full blown condo building so that could explain it. The kitchen, bathrooms and working area were all good sized as was the comfy bed and spacious closet areas. The water was hot and had good pressure and there was a Keurig machine in the kitchen with complimentary coffee and bottles of water(nice touch!) Wifi was also included in my rate and the speed was fine enough for working. Since the rooms have kitchens, you can expect to smell cooking in the hallways — not every ones cup of tea, but it didn’t really bother me. Parking garage is internal to the building and a bit on the tight side– but a little patience and it all worked out nicely. There is a restaurant on premises that also does room service ordering. All in all a good choice and something different than the usual lodging suspects scattered around the airport.
