Seems like a fun place. Nice staff and good beer selection. But what’s with the 14oz glasses? At least they are only $ 5.

What’s not to like? Guinness, beautiful bar, Irish theme, good music, dive-y atmosphere, friendly staff(Sarah) at the bar, and some really good fish and chips. Definitely would recommend. Unless you’re a real prude, you’ll enjoy it.

I had supper at Shannon’s Irish Pub this evening. It’s in the basement. I sat next to the stage. There is live entertainment every night(starts about 9pm). I had the full order of Beer Battered Haddock and Chips. For $ 12, it was a lot of food and I left a lot of fries. It was delicious. It’s kind of seedy … and I liked it. Kim was my server and she took good care of me. She was joking around a lot and gave me lots of attention. I’d recommend it if you are looking for a pub.

In terms of divey pubs, I’ve experienced better. This place is on Carlton Street, next to the Convention Centre and sort of behind East India Company. It’s located on the lower level, in the basement so that adds to the«divey-ness» of the place as it’s dark, dingy and full of dark wood furnishings. I can’t speak to how great the place is later in the night as I was there with a group right after work and it wasn’t busy. But that being said, it was nice that we could carry on a conversation without shouting. The music was kinda odd — a weird mix of random songs that didn’t really make sense in an Irish pub(at least in my mind). There’s pool tables, darts, and obviously a stage for live music. They probably have about a dozen or so beers on tap and of the ones available they were decent — like Guiness, Rickards, Kilkenny, Stellas etc. I had two different pale ales and it came to just under $ 10 so not bad for pricing. The menu is similar to most pubs though I found it very annoying that nachos, a staple in any pub is NOT available till 9 pm. WTF? The server tried to explain that it had something to do with the oven/griddle not being turned on yet or whatever. I figure the nacho chef doesn’t roll in until 9 pm. So that was weird and disappointing. You can get Irish nachos instead which has a layer or potato hasbrowns and way too carby. Service was friendly and decent. Washrooms falls into the divey bar category. It wasn’t even busy at the time yet there was already a pool of liquid leaking from the middle stall in the women’s washroom. Lovely. Okay, place, but I wouldn’t come running back… maybe on St. Patrick’s Day?

I dropped by on a Wednesday for lunch and it was empty. The service was good and the food was good too. Decent selection of beer on tap

We tried this place because it was handy, and we could actually reach it by going across the parking garage. Beer is beer, not cheap but OK… About $ 8 per draft Harp. But the food was terrible. Very limited selection. I had the Bangers and Mash. Generic sausages, salty probably boxed mashed potatoes, and mediocre canned beans. Barely edible unless you had a LOT of those Harps! We try burgers all over the northern hemisphere, and sometimes beyond. Some are great, some not so. My wife finally had one that took the award for worst… Kind of like a poor quality, looked like, meatloaf but with some sort of hot, nasty tasting, seasoning, maybe curry and something else. A really horrible flavor. She didn’t eat it and I actually tried a bite. It was just awful!!! $ 10.00 burger = 8 McDonald cheapy burgers… And the McD cheapy would be immensely better than this offering! Oh, and we had to wait quite a long time for it! Once we had dinner, we were sorry we hadn’t waited longer!!! Guess we can see I was underwhelmed… Skip this place unless you just have to have a beer. Plenty of better places in the area for food.

I have a thing for divey bars and pubs, so this place has a leg up on the competition right away. However, the location is a bit odd, and the on-tap offerings were somewhat limited(a few over-represented brands, some of which were completely out on the Tuesday night that I was there). The live music was mediocre and pretty invasive, but I guess you can’t expect to have a conversation wherever you go. I had a great time when I was there, but all in all, it seems like an average place. So, while I tend to prefer that, I suppose I ought to give the place an average rating. I was really impressed with the gorgeous woodwork in the main bar area, but I just can’t give it a whole extra star for that.
