Went back here after a year with some more friends in tow. Having tasted all of the«Argentine» or similar places in Winnipeg, I have to update this review to express what a treasure this place is. What seemed a little sparse last time now seems cozy, comfortable, and familiar. This is a family restaurant in the truest sense of the word. Empandas are delicious and authentic. Milanesa, locro, and humitas were all delcious. Received a ringing endorsement from our Argentine friends who were trying it for the first time.

Love this place — great food, music and friendly staff. Had the sampler platter so got to try a number of different dishes — in future I would order Locro rather than Humitas. The platter looks small but hubbie and I were both stuffed when we left. So glad we made the reservation. The wait staff are attentive and friend.

We where looking for a different place to dine tonite(keep going to the favs alot) We found this place o Unilocal and it was near by to where we were so whats the worse that can happen. we went for it. We found the bread an dips a wonderful start to the meal. And the Canelones one of the best tasted in recent memory worth the trip if that is all you get. However we found the selection of empanadas we tried to be a little to cheesy and short on flavor. They had great service with a small but well priced selection of wines from Argentina. Over all a good nite out.

This place is still a hidden gem in old St. Vital. I’ve eaten here many times and have not been disappointed! This small restaurant offers up delicious comforting foods like empanadas, steaks, chicken, pastas and desserts. The menu prices is so ridiculously reasonable as most entrees average $ 15. You get complimentary bread & nachos that come with 3 dipping sauces(hot sauce, which was quite spicy, a mild salsa and chimichurri) — a great start to the meal! If you want empanadas — come here, they are delicious and very reasonable at $ 2.75-$ 3.00 for each. The dough is light, baked and filled with a variety of different fillings. My faves: spicy beef empanada($ 2.75) and the blue cheese & mozzarella($ 3.00). They are great as an appetizer or order a few with a salad for a nice light meal. Definitely try some empanadas here! They make exceptional pastas here, I love their«Canelones»($ 12), you get the lightest cannellonis ever as they are made with crêpes filled with spinach and ricotta cheese, served with rosé sauce and a side of garlic bread. They offer a few choices of steaks that come with mashed potatoes or salad. The«Picana»($ 14) is a 6 oz top sirloin steak with side of chimichurri sauce. The steak was simply seasoned with salt and was pretty tender for a top sirloin — it was nicely flavoured with the chimichurri sauce. I opted for the house salad(lettuce, tomatoes & onion) tossed with a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon & salt. I loved the simplicity of this dish and at such a great price. The«½ Pollo Deshuesado»($ 15) is a ½ chicken marinated with lemon, garlic, and red wine. The chicken was flattened on the bone and pan fried. The marinade was full of flavour and richness. The only downside was the mashed potatoes as it was microwaved(yes I heard the beeping noise), but also it was sort of flat and below average. So I’d recommend going with the salad as opposed to mashed potatoes for your entrée sides. In my previous review, I already wrote about the Milanesa Especial(an Argentinean speciality) — definitely get that if you love super hearty sandwiches. Service is very friendly — it’s a family business and there is a definite passion there to serve up great food.
