Sweet Boutique does remind me of the cafes I frequent in Italy… where I drink my espresso right at the counter standing and munching on pastries! Love the selection of sweet at Sweet Boutique, everything just looks so delicious and hard to decide. Espresso is nicely made with good crema and went so well with my treat! The only complain is why the staff starts swiping the floor right beside me while I am sipping my coffee, the next thing she started wiping the table next to me with this strong cleaner… All I smell was chemical not the aroma of my coffee anymore… why?! Couldn’t she just wait?!

We ordered a cake from here, and since then had come back to try some sweets. We were pretty excited to try the cake in hopes that we had found the next big cake shop. Finally the day had come, the celebration had begun, and lunch was going to be devoured, and to be followed by a wonderful cake. once the cake was served my wife and I looked at each other and said, meh. Very average, the custard was good, but the sponge was just average, I wouldn’t get it again, but maybe on a smaller scale we’ll give them another chance with another type of cake. Unfortunately as far as a plain old fashioned sponge cake, we weren’t overly impressed, and rather disappointed since the pastries we had from the sweet boutique were so good, but expensive still. It’s not that the cake was bad, it’s just that we’ve had better and this one didn’t catch our palates. Everyone raved about the cookies we served on our receiving line table also from Sweet Boutique, and the cake did present very well which is why I bumped them up to 3 stars instead of two. So, I guess on a small scale they are good, but at the big ticket item I’d have to look elsewhere.

I was on my way to Grande Cheese, which was closed and always seems to be closed each time I have to go. Then I walked across the street to go to Cosenza bakery and lo and behold there was this really cute bakery with beautiful pastries on display. There were traditional cakes for first communion and baptism, but what blew me away were the tiny perfect treats. The cookies were soft, fresh and flavourful. Definitely tastes homemade. I had a variety of cookies that caught my eye and they were packaed into this traditional gold foiled cunning little box, which reminded me of pasticerrias in Rome. I had the last strawberry zeppole which was out of this world. Thank goodness I shared it because it was a big heap of deliciousness. The service was a little muddled because once they saw someone they knew they were happy to chat all day and forget service. But with these cookies, I don’t care about the service. I am happy to take my loot, go home and eat them happily. What a great find!

WOW!!! Hold on a second, I don’t think I said that loud enough. WOW! If your in the area and in the mood for some incredible Italian pastries, or even a tasty espresso, this is THE place. I had four different pastries and they were all mouth watering good. And the espresso, really hit the spot. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I’m definitely coming back.
