Look in between the alley to find cheap beer and amazing garlic rice and bbq. I must say over the years this place still doesn’t disappoint. My advice. GOIN A GROUP and enjoy every bit of different thing on the grill.

Yakiniku(grilled meat) are a traditional favourite of Japanese natives who like to have it with beer or sake. Here in Malaysia, Yakiniku is catching on pretty fast. The food here is good and you have a choice between beef, pork, lamb and various vegetables. They have an option where you can pick seafood or mushroom packed in a foil to grill over your personal charcoal burner. The specialty here is a braised mutton dish called the Genghis Khan, which arrives to yur table raw and then is slowly cooked over charcoal fire. The only thing preventing me from giving it more stars is that I find the place a bit pricey. One fulfilling meal, especilly for big eaters can go up to RM60−70. Go for the experience if you have some extra to splurge but I don’t think I can be a regular.

A truly hidden gem amidst Taman Desa is this Japanese BBQ restaurant. It might be a little difficult to locate if you’re not from the area, but just follow the sizzling sound of pork belly and you’ll find your way. Look out for huge red lanterns between two buildings and there you will discover the Japanese BBQ restaurant tucked along the alleys. You can opt to sit indoors or outdoors, nothing fancy here. Just stools, a table, with a grilling station by the side. A useful reminder is to wear something simple as it will get hot and sticky, leaving your clothes smelling like grilled pork meat as well. It can be pretty expensive depending on what you order and I was taken aback by the portion size. I had to down two bowls of ramen to fill up my belly. We ordered a few side dishes and got the grill working. Starting off with the pork belly, it was too chewy for our liking, probably the lack of marinate. Barely enough to feed 4 mouths, we ordered another side dish of Gengkhis Khan(RM20). A set of Japanese grilled mutton infused with cabbage soup gave the right balance of juicy sweetness. The food isn’t that great but it makes a great place to have a mingle session over food.

I’m a fan of different concept restaurants. And when I meant different, this restaurant proved it. For those who have not visited this place or not familiar with this area, this place is a tad difficult to find. Look in between the alleys and you will be able to spot it. The concept derived from Japan(Outdoor BBQ). You hardly can find one around KL. But don’t be mistaken. There is another BBQ restaurant with the similar concept just right opposite but they serve«Yong Tau Fu» instead. You order the meat and grill them yourself! Or if you are too lazy to BBQ, you can order the Cold/Hot Ramen soup. It is super delicious. Do also order the Congee and Fried Kimchi. The fried Kimchi is one of my favourite dish there! Even if you visit during rainy weather, fret not, they have tents and an indoor seating but be sure to go there early as it can get really packed. If you are heading there on a humid day, do wear something light and cooling. It can get hot! If you drink, they also serves Sakae or beer. As for BBQ, pork is the best! Definitely a great place for family occasions/parties/birthdays and informal celebrations.

This Japanese BBQ stall is like a hidden gem for me to discover. It’s really hard to find, this place is tucked in between two rows of shop-houses apartments at Taman Desa. It can be spotted when you see the red lanterns hanging up there. I had drove to find this place but fail for several times. The first time was because of I’m lost in nowhere and found it in second time but it’s too crowded so I need to make a move. Finally got the chance to visit there again for the 3rd time with my cousin. Thanks to the raining day, we managed to get parking and a table for five of us. Ordered some Sapporo cold beers, garlic fried rice, ramen and the main food… raw meats!(lamb, chicken, porks). Let’s start BBQ! Every table will provided a charcoal stove to grilled-it-yourself. For me, the foods wasn’t that great but the overall environment and experience are the bonus to me. Because of windy weather(after raining), we were quite enjoy the moment of grilling the meats in traditional way with charcoal flames while having beer and chit chatting. Is just like having Japanese street food somewhere in Japan. If is not raining, You might need to bring a mini-fan along because it’s located at the back alleys with open-air. So, you might need to enjoy your dinner with Mosquitos and heats. A cold beers will be help!
