Compared to the nearby Meng Kee Bat Kut Teh, I think Heng Kee isn’t better. I personally felt that the pork from Meng Kee was more tender and soft than Heng Kee. Meanwhile, the soup, Heng Kee was less salty. Heng Kee is spacious, and always crowded. I never think a bat kut teh can be so crowded! But then, I love their service. They are good and polite even they are so busy. When they saw new customers waiting, they will approach and help to find seat.(*Note that some restaurants will just ignore you*). We were expecting to wait a long period because it was super super super crowded! And we saw a lot of customers were still waiting theirs when we we walking into the restaurant. Surprisingly, we only waited 15 minutes! One thing I don’t agree on Heng Kee was they charge RM1 for additional bowl of soup. What? I am a Bat Kut Teh soup lover, everytime I will order extra bowlssssssss~ I am not sure how much per bowl but the price was affordable. However, I still prefer to have Meng Kee Bat Kut Teh~

Almost everyone who comes to PJ Old Town for Bak Kut Teh would come to this restaurant. Their business is located at a corner lot house and parking is horrible here. More often than not you’ll be parking streets away and you’ll have to walk quite a distance. So is it really worth all the hassle just to eat this Bak Kut Teh? Yes and no. Yes because they do still serve good quality food. No because they have been quite arrogant and started charging if you ask for extra soup topping. Ridiculous I say, so all of my friends have boycott this outlet and decided to go for others around the PJ Old Town area too.

I’ve been going to Heng Kee’s for as long as I remember. My dad always told us how this was the place he took our mum for their first date, much to her chagrin. Well something about the food must have kept her around as up to this day we still come here often. Closed on Mondays, we try to come here on weekdays as weekend, are insanely crowded. Not too mention parking. But on weekdays at least, things are a bit quieter. The soup is just one of the best I’ve tasted, salty yet addictive. We normally order the tender meat pieces, although if we’re feeling naughty, we’d order the pork belly. Tender parts have more meat but the pork belly is sweeter. We also never fail to order a bowl of Yar Char Kway, which when soaked in soup for a few seconds, becomes soft and so so tasty. They also have other dishes like enoki mushrooms and pork liver. But since they do not have menus there, it is best just to ask what they have.
