I can’t put my finger on this place. Sometimes the food is brilliant, sometimes it falls short. Sometimes the food here makes you crave for more, other times I’m like meh. Consistency is a challenge here. Then again, the food is never bad. It’s only either awesome or good, or good-ish. The place is loud from the crazy loud air conditioning. It’s kinda like the difference between a cat breathing quietly and a big dog breathing loudly. It’s bordering on uncomfortable. Although you do get used to it and it quickly becomes ambient noise that you won’t notice after a while. Can’t fault their service though. Very attentive, smiley bunch of people. :) And for that I’d come here again. It helps that this place is near my office.

For the past few weeks, I have been strongly craving for a decent meatball/bolognaise pasta. One night during that spaghetti crave, I decided to head to Jaya shopping mall to try to satisfy my craving. I came across Nosh Up, it was something that I have yet to try and was curious of their quality of food. Secondly, I was tempted of the free calamari salad that comes with a mains. I had my spaghetti bolognaise and the free calamari salad. The salad was good but the spaghetti was just mediocre. It was rather tasteless so I had to add tobasco sauce. I was close to pouring all of the hot sauce to add more taste. Well, the portion was decent and I got myself really full. It was alright, I will be back for the calamaris though!

What initially attracted me to Nosh Up was definitely the interior. It was gaudy yet elegant, with various colours blending in together to create a very cheerful atmosphere. The dining area was quite small, but they managed to utilize their limited space cleverly. I opted for the grilled chicken duxelle, priced at RM29. Their dish was uniquely styled, and had a very authentic taste to it. For dessert I decided on the pana cotta, which was deliciously blended as well as chilled. Nosh Up definitely does not disappoint in terms of quality. Their expertly crafted dishes tend to burst with flavor and have that extra«oomph!» needed to land a spot in that 4-star category. The next time I’m there, I’ll be sure to give their pasta dishes a shot.

Nosh-Up Café has only been operating in Jaya Shopping Centre for a couple of months, and it seems like they have already attracted a certain amount of crowd. The artistic and colourful décor made brightens up the café, and made it look very«Instagram-able». It’s no surprise that their menu is made up of both local and Western cuisine, as this is what most of the cafes are offering nowadays. My friend and I dropped by over a weekday and spotted they have lunch menu starting from RM16 onwards, including a soup or salad + main course + Ice Lemon Tea. Both of us had the soup — Green Pea and Potato Soup, and it was flavourful. I had the Lamb Ragu Spaghetti and my friend had the Cajun Chicken Spaghetti. Both of our spaghetti was over-cooked, and then it gets too heavy after a few bites. The flavours were good, but it would be better if the gravy did not taste that heavy. We did not get to try their coffee or cakes. Despite the not-so-good lunch experience, I would still like to return to the café to try out their coffee and cakes. They offer whole day brunch set too — till 5pm for weekdays and till 3pm for weekend. As for the pricing, it’s slightly on the high side as the food averagely cost about RM20.

I’ve been having an intense craving for Italian. And I’m not talking about your run of the mill, chain Italian restaurants. I’m talking about creamy white carbonara sauce, immersed within thick fettuccine, bringing you back to your mama’s kitchen pasta. I spent the whole night thinking, PASTA! PASTA!PASTA! Little did I know, the next morning a friend of my mentions there’s a restaurant nearby that serves pretty mean pasta. So we went, I sat, I wondered, I tasted and it was wonderful. Now, I’m not that particular about my pasta. Presentation never really bothered me and Nosh Up isn’t really all that spectacular with theirs. However, it’s really quite tasty. I particularly like the use of herbs and spices. My Carbonara Spaghetti had a kick to it! After a satisfying meal(that probably increased my pants a size or two), I calmed my stomach with some hot chocolate. It was decent to say none the least, nothing really distinctive about it. It’s safe to say Nosh Up will expand overtime. They’re already opening a new one in Damansara.
