Sweet Chat Cafe

I ended up at this place on a day when I was feeling under the weather and didn’t want to eat somewhere crowded and noisy. Sweet Chat in the Mines is somehow always relatively quieter and it has all this little nooks and crannies you can hide in if you don’t want to see anyone or be seen.
I ordered a light bite, which was their baked vegetables with cheese. I’ve since tried their other dishes like their chicken and mushroom pie. Although their serving sizes are rather small, the taste is good and very comforting.
I’ve also tried their famous durian crêpe and hope they will increase the amount of dessert pieces. Three is not enough. However, they were one of the first to start serving durian crepes before the craze started so I’d give them a thumbs up for that.

I love local cuisine and I love desserts, Sweet Chat Café has both of them! So far, all the food and beverages I have tried there are above average but there are a few of them are my staple orders, which I would like to share.
Nyonya Laksa — I love anything spicy and flavourful, and this nyonya laksa is one of the best laksa I can get. The thick noodles not only it is chewy but when slurp together with the soup, it (almost) makes me feel on cloud nine. I have tried this for a several times and the prawn is consistently fresh. Don’t we all love it when a restaurant provide consistent food quality? I know I do. The soup is rich with ‘santan’ which means coconut milk in Bahasa Malaysia; well combined with the chilies paste.
Rice Rhapsody — This is a very traditional Baba Nyonya cuisine but the halal version. It is glutinous rice cooked with black soy sauce for that extra flavour. Served together with pakchoy and curry chicken. Surprisingly the curry chicken taste like my mom’s, for that I add extra mark!
The MUST order dessert is the Durian Pancake! It is fresh pure durian and cream wrapped with a light pancake skin, also served together with drizzle of thick chocolate sauce for a better plate presentation. If you are big fan of durian, I strongly recommend this dessert.
Overall I am very happy with the service and food, but not the beverages. The price of beverages are relatively expensive with its small portion.
