La Cueva del Pescador

We’ve eaten here on previous trips and looked forward to this visit. Didn’t disappoint… As good as we remembered. A group of 8 of us enjoyed drinks and dinner, plus the mariachi music and had outstanding service with Carlos and outstanding food. The seafood platter shared by two was great, the whole fish, the shrimp tacos… And the pitchers of margaritas… The tab was very low considering our indulgences… Highly recommend.

Great food with great service! I had some papaya with me and asked for them to be blended into juice and the waiter was cool with it. A friend had to join us later and he waiter had no problem keeping the food warm till he arrived. Great place!

Akumal is our favorite spot in the Riveria. This little dive has earned a permanent spot in our hearts.
It’s a short walk from the beach– right across the street from the dive shop. No dress code. Just walk up and grab a seat. The tables are a cool petrified wood type.
You are greeted with a «hola» and a basket of chips and salsa. Tip: for those that like spicy stuff. Ask for the hotter sauce and mix the two. Very good!
I always do the shrimp tacos and my wife does either the steak tacos or quesadillas. Hers is good. The steak is well cooked with great flavor.

They pair up perfectly with a cold bottle of Modelo or a Margarita. Which is also very good!
You can’t go wrong here! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere!

Enjoyed whole grilled fish — delicious; also excellent salsa fresca and chips. Mediocre salad of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. Enjoyed a pitcher of margaritas. Service friendly but a bit unfocused.

We came in to have a nice, relaxing meal after a long drive. Menu is brief but good looking and it’s pretty much seafood. We ordered Langoustine (Very Good!!), Guacamole and a salad and everything was good, until the clock showed 9:20 PM. Every single person who worked there, was rushing everyone to leave. In our case we had ordered a pitcher of margarita (how fast can you drink one glass!!!) and they wanted us to take it to go. We told them we were ok and drinking at the table, this guy said that they were putting chairs on top of the tables and that they needed the one we were using, so we moved to another. 2 minutes later we just didn’t feel like dealing with it and left.
That only happens, when owners or managers aren’t around.

The ceviche and margaritas here are a must. I always look forward two those two things. I’ve had the ceviche at Lol Ha, La Buena Vida, La Lunita, and the taco place across the highway and this place definitely has the best ceviche in town. The stuffed fish is also superb.

Aaaaay éste es el mejor lugar para comer en Akumal, estoy enamorada de su gastronomía porqué cada vez que voy pido un platillo diferente y pff! Realmente todos han estado muy ricos, además de que tienen el mejor ceviche de todo Quintana Roo, soy de las que no suelen comer ceviche pero éste lo devoró supongo que tiene mucho que ver con la frescura de los mariscos, pero si les comiendo mucho que lo prueben y la langosta ni se diga woooow! Con solo recordar se me abré el apetito ya que no encuentro las palabras para describir lo espectacular y delicioso que este manjar. También les recomiendo que si después de una grata y riquísima comida les queda un huequito pidan el helado de coco con kaluha, una delicia para tu paladar; que puedo decir del staff, siempre amigables, realizando uno que otro chiste para que los clientes contagien su felicidad. Y en este lugar si aceptan perros ¡Que genial!

Very nice seafood, and a relaxed place to eat! Shady and cool, too. I had some excellent grilled locally caught fish.

This place is great. They have fresh seafood and great tasting. Their grilled shrimp is AMAZING and their whole fish and fish filets were also excellent. We ordered appetizers first and they warned that by splitting our courses the food would take a bit longer. We’re on vacation and appreciate that freshly made food takes time to make. So we were ok with it. It was full of locals and tourists as well. Everyone recommended this place. We actually came back for more. Highly recommended!

Pretty average food compared to what you can find in Tulum. It is pretty Gringo friendly so if you don’t know better it is ok. The food took a long time to arrive and service while friendly was spotty. Would not recommend as it is also not that cheap. Warning — Cash only!

Best Mini Lobsters, Arrechera, and Shrimp Aioli! Very reasonable too! Best restaurant in Akumal!
