The food was decent and I loved there was an AC room. They didn’t open at the time mentioned on Unilocal but the service was good. Salad Cesar was okay. Not anything special but hamburger and ceviche were yummy.

My favorite place to eat in Cancun! Nestled in old Cancun this restaurant is off the beaten path but definitely worth it. With an outdoor fountain and open grill this gem has a warm inviting atmosphere. The food is a mix of true Mexican dishes with a splash of European flavor. The octopus steak was flavorful and tender while the dessert brownie was rich and moist. It was a delight to chat with Chef Karl about his recommendations on whiskey and Cancun dives :) I will definitely be back!

Our family of four adults from Los Angeles has now eaten at La Estacion twice: once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both visits have been an absolute delight. Breakfasts at La Estacion offer a tasty variety of both Mexican and American fare. Particularly considering the quality we found the prices extremely reasonable. Likewise with dinner. We had the ribeye, the beef tenderloin, their special hamburger(an 11 ounce patty topped with shrimp) and the asparagus risotto topped with crispy octopus. Everything was perfect. Desert was one of the very best flan that any of us had ever had. To summarize: this place is an absolute GEM! Be sure to come here if you’re in Cancun.

Visiting from Los Angeles with my dad, I decided to go to this place for dinner. Here’s what this place does really well: put interesting ingredients in close proximity to one another in interesting ways. Your mouth is like: «wow! I have never had this combination of these tastes all happening simultaneously… Started the meal with an amazing onion soup and some fabulous guacamole! We then proceeded to a delicious Octopus, chicken and salmon grilled by Karl right across from our table with homemade mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and bbq corn on the cob. We met the chef Karl and his wife. These are good people doing really good work. You need to support their efforts. These are the kinds of folks you want to see succeed. Based on the meal we had, it’s hard to imagine them NOT succeeding. The food, service, ambience, and especially the presentation were really excellent. Don’t pass this place up…

Writing a review is so much fun when there are so many good things to say about a restaurant. To start, I’m an American living in Cancun for a few years now, so I am always looking for something new and better – I FOUNDSUCH A PLACE! Located away from the hustle and bustle of central Cancun, and nestled just off of one of Cancun’s main roads(less than five minutes from Home Depot), I discovered a restaurant offering food as good as you can find anywhere in the city(including the Hotel Zone). Why it’s located where it is, I do not understand, but I know one things for sure: It’s worth getting there! Now knowing where to go, I have had the awesome privilege of meeting Chef Karl and enjoying his ingenious dishes with friends and family alike. I certainly have my favorites like the Pork Tenderloin(to LIVE for) and the Octopus, but there is so much more – from a delish pâté to the king-sized hamburger. If you enjoy exotic, alcoholic concoctions, there’s nothing he can’t personally make that is as good as you’ve ever had – I can personally vouch for the mojitos and Bloody Marys. Here’s the best part, the prices are so beyond reasonable. However, once you’ve experienced the flavors and sauces that accompany each meal, you’d be willing to pay more. Also, if you have kids, no problem. There’s a nice area for them to enjoy while you watch them and Karl(on the other side of the restaurant) as he cooks your meats on a stylish grill designed for the namesake of the restaurant La Estacion(the Station). All aboard!

We said we would eat here every night if we could, so we had to go back for another round before departing Cancun. La Estacion far exceeded expectations again and while the mixed grill is our absolute favorite, the salmon and ribeye were both outstanding. The salmon was grilled and served with spinach, mashed potatoes and a deliciously fresh mango salad. The ribeye came with a choice of sides and the grilled corn was perfect – again. Chef Karl, his lovely wife and their team(including two of their sons) showed us around the restaurant and life in a business that is clearly a family passion — delightful all around. If you are a Jack drinker, he has an impressive collection and his choice of a German blush sparkling to start was an excellent choice for Valentine’s Day. My daughter and son both had selections from the menu geared at little ones and besides a rarely-hungry toddler, they ate most everything including grilled veggies, rice, Mac n cheese(homemade) and a burger far better than most. Thank you, again, for making us feel welcome, special and like long-time friends in your home! We are sad to leave Mexico and this special spot on a busy corner far off the beaten party path in Cancun. Every second of the experience is worth the journey so don’t miss it. We promise to spread the word and to return soon, Chef. Adiós and gracias!

Yes, yes, yes! Food: Dinner is the standout, but I first had breakfast here. Like steak and eggs? How about fillet mignon and eggs! It comes with hollandaise and is very savory. More of a brunch feel than a breakfast feel on this dish. It’s very good and just under $ 10 bucks! My mother loved the smoked salmon and toasted bagel dish. Yes, it seems simple but it’s very well done and an all out rarity in the actual city of Cancun. Dinner is where this place blew me away. For less than the price one person would pay at the Brazillian steakhouse, 4 people can eat a huge platter with loads of meats and some seafood served on a bed of really tastey fries. And when I say 4 people, I mean 4 people will be left uncomfortably full. It’s not just a big plate of slop. Everything is super«is this really happening right now?» tasty. The house aoili goes great with the fries and the mac and cheese garnish is super good, creamy, parmesany mac and cheese. There’s not much of that in particular though. So, make sure to draw first blood on that. Don’t worry about having enough to eat in general though. Another highlight were smoked swordfish tostadas. He has this little smoker right in the dining area. It’s small and compact so it barrages the fish with an insane amount of flavor. It’s not something you find just anywhere especially not on cape cod where I live and the knee jerk reaction is to deep fry everything. However, I think that usually the fish is tuna and not swordfish. I haven’t tried the tuna yet, but I’m guessing you could stick a sandal in there and it would be good. Really, though, the flavor of the fresh fish still comes through. It’s not buried or hidden by the process, but believe me, there’s huge flavor. How to get there: Well, I’m not too sure what to tell you. A taxi may charge you up to $ 200MXN to get there, but I’m told the #2 bus drops you off there. I would use the gmaps on your cell to keep track of where you are on the bus though. Even with data shut off, I found my gmaps app to be handy. This place is 30 – 40 minutes away depending on your hotel and traffic I would say. Background: I’ve been dissappointed all too often in Cancun. My wife and I have been going every year for the past 5 years because my mother retired there. I was looking for a breakfast place. This hit the spot, but it’s properly an amazing steak house. It’s chef run by this huge Austrian guy. I know, you might be thinking«I want to eat real Mexican food.» Well, guess what, you could go down to Mississippi and ask for some real southern food and get sent to the Waffle House. So, you have to keep that in mind. I find that affordable food tends to be mediocre and high-end restaurants tend to be dissappointing. Vacation goggles can take you very far in a beautiful place like Cancun. If you’ve been here before, know the«meh» nature of the restaurants, and really want to eat something that will leave you smiling, this is the spot. I really love chef-owned places. The guy gets giddy just talking about the food and the swordfish that had just come in that day. He’s this huge guy too. When someone like that is making your food, you get a place where every single dish has been thought of and represents a personal accomplishment of this big Austrian chef who really likes creating dishes.
