Nice little family restaurant hidden a walking distance behind el Callejon del Beso. If you’re looking for something fancy, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for some tasty traditional enchiladas mineras, this is the place for you. This place ONLY sells enchiladas and drinks. The lady who attended us was also very friendly.

Just be warned. I tried. God knows I did. I located it and trekked the featureless callejones up the mountainside to the unmarked, unremarkable door. Warned it gets busy, I arrived at 6PM as advertized. No sign nor sign of life. I inquired at the tiny bodega down the callejon, and was told«Mas tarde.» Fair enough, but there is nowhere at the same altitude to get a beer or etc. Around 6:40, a young woman dailed her cell near the door, which opened, admitted her and slammed shut again. No light, no nada. Now I am the target of casual attention from nearby balconies and people traipsing up the hill. Finally at 7:30 with no sign of life, I rappeled down to Carnitas Sam for tacos, which were excellent, btw. Probably I am culturally insensitive. She has every right to run her business as she deems. But it makes it damn hard on a potential customer. The place is not easy to get to. Not sure I’ll try again, as this may some sort of elaborate Mexican hoax?

This restaurant is basically the kitchen and living room of a small house with the family making the enchiladas in the kitchen right as you walk in. The aroma is intoxicating, and while I hadn’t had enchiladas mineras before, these were outstanding. The family members waiting on the five or six tables in the place are very friendly, and the time it took from sitting down to having my food was just under five minutes. You get your food on a styrofoam plate with a plastic fork, so don’t expect anything fancy, but this is about as legit as it gets. Due to the place being so tiny, it gets packed regularly, and it was full as I was leaving, though when I arrived at 7:30pm-ish on a Friday night, I was lucky enough to get a free table.

Enchiladas Doña Lupe is a bit hidden but it is surely a hidden gem. They have no menu; It seems there are option but they just brought me a plate of enchiladas and a beer, on request. There service was good and the food could not have been more delicious. Despite it’s English Unilocal presence, this place seemed like a popular, local spot. I will be back for more!

Wow! We knew as soon as we walked in we were in store for an amazing and authentic meal. You are basically dining in a small house, with Dona Lupe(?) cooking up enchiladas at an impressive speed a handful of feet away, in what is most likely a living room. The place was packed with a line out the door, but we managed to get a small table next to a stack of glass bottles hidden behind a shower curtain(lol). I ordered the cheese enchiladas mineras and my husband ordered the chicken. They aren’t the most photogenic meals, so no photos were taken, but WOWSA, were they delicious. Amazing flavors that were even more complimented by adding some of the table jalapeños. Also, their jamaica was the best I’ve ever had. My husband guessed it was cold brewed, but we really have no idea. It was the perfect balance of sweet and flavor, though. For two meals plus two beverages our meal was around $ 7.50USD. Make sure you find this place and have a meal. They seem to only have one or two items on the menu, but they are perfect.

Not fancy but so sooo good! As someone from the states we often complain about not getting enough good Mexican good. Especially on the east coast. This place satisfied what I’ve been long for and was nothing short of spectacular.

I must say that this place is everything the reviews stated that it would be. The food is absolutely delicious. In Mexico, the chicken isn’t loaded with hormones, and the taste is different from the CRAP we eat in the states. Imagine that chicken: PANFRIED. Imagine enchiladas with carrots and potatoes. IMAGINE. …the restaurant is small, and it looks like there is only one table, but they have a room with a few tables in back. The service is fast. The food is delicious. The prices are out of this world. Three plates of enchiladas with chicken, two bottles of Manzana Lift… 210 pesos. Ridiculous. These are probably the best enchiladas I have had since coming to Guanajuato.

Obviamente no pude resistirme. Gracias a Dios que no me resistí. Supremas.

We stumbled across this little restaurant that is located on the corner of Callejon del Venado by accident. Actually I should say we could all smell something delicious cooking. We were on a callejoneada passing by when all of the sudden we could all smell the same thing: enchiladas Mineras. I am in no way being dramatic, that is exactly what happened! You can smell this dish cooking down the block. After the callejoneada ended we headed back to Enchiladas Doña Lupe. The restaurant is small, and enchiladas mineras are the only thing on the menu but they are so delicious! The first part of the restaurant has a table for six and it is also where the enchiladas are cooked. There are 3 more tables on the left, like I said small. Oh and did I mention cheap! The enchiladas were only something like 35 pesos. So happy we came across this little gem!
