I would like to give this place a 4.5 because I would say it’s fairly consistent both in service and taste. I have come here now two days straight, mainly because I’m afraid of venturing too much and also because it’s inside the W hotel where I stay when I come to Mexico for work. This used to be a different type of restaurant last time I came if I’m not mistaken. Naturally I was intrigued but somewhat worried the first night because I was dressed somewhat casual. I never got the feeling that I was not welcome and considering that I was staying at the hotel I would hope so. The first night was probably the best night because I was greater by multiple people and really given top star service from one who brought bread to another who brought the menus to the one who brought my food. I tried the sopa de pescados the first night which has some type of fish, muscles, shrimp and a seafood or fish type broth. Let’s just say I ate that right up. The contrast of flavor was just right-the only exception to that were some little puff pieces that were like the crackers you’d put in your clam chowder-I just think they were unnecessary. I liked this dish because I hate fish unless it’s sushi and I still ate it. Surprisingly the muscles gave me more of a fish taste than anything. I topped off the meal with a chocolate moose like desert that had salt, some caramelized crunchy things and what seemed like a refined Oreo crumb. I loved it just as much as I loved their chocolate ice cream I tried my second night –nice pure unaltered cocoa flavor not like a chocolate flavor you’d find at your local Wendy’s. The second night I have to say was less memorable-I felt the waiter was less attentive to me even though he was nice he probably checked in once or in general minimal. I tried the flank steak and it had some chiles and mustard seed and I wasn’t a fan so it was disappointed. Overall nice spot just depends on taste but certainly focus is service.

Food was exceptional, but most all the staff… amazing. Jerry is fantastic and Ahmed the waiter so good. The service was a five star and the food was spot on. The bread with tomato is to die for, not to mention the breakfast. Nothing better in Mexico DF

Spain meets Mexico — inventive tapas that make your taste buds dance. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. Manolo our waiter was great recommending his favorites. Everything was great and I hope to return soon. This restaurant is a must while in Mexico City!

My friend and I decided to try this restaurant since it was at the hotel we were staying and had a terrace for outside sitting. From the moment we walked in the staff was attentive and ensured we were comfortable. The restaurant is a fusion of Spanish tapas with a Mexican twist and the dishes are meant for sharing. We decided to try a couple of the ones recommended by the servers and we were not disappointed. My favorite one, the salpicon de cangrejo, was a perfect blend between a creamy mayo sauce and a pico de gallo salsa prepared with the crab. The portions are small but satisfying, specially for someone that just liked to try a little bit of everything instead of having one big dish. Their wines are all Spanish. Even though I did not try enough dishes to give the restaurant a five star, I would recommended it.

Staying at the W for work, I didn’t need to venture for for an excellent meal. My waiter Gus was amazing in going over the menu with me and suggesting a variety of small plates based on my tastes. Gus and the entire team knew the menu very well and were very hospitable and accommodating. I had the avocado cone, scallops with pine nuts, spiny lobster with a cucumber and bell pepper salad. For the main course I had the snapper carpaccio dish. Everything was had so much flavor and the right amount of spice in the dish. Then just when I thought I couldn’t take another bite, Gus and the chef brought me the gin and tonic sorbet. This dish literally pops and fizzes in your mouth as you eat the sorbet with the tonic foam and fresh berries. This was my first time at a Jose Andres restaurant but it won’t be my last.

We were one of the first to dine for dinner on opening night. I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy several other Chef Andres restaurants and this one doesn’t disappoint. We had the jamon iberico, patatas bravas, croquettas mixtas, joses tacos, gambas al ajillo and the paella. It was all terrific and would especially recommend the patatas, tacos and the paella! The opening night service was fabulous by any standards, especially for first night service. A very cool Mexican Spanish fusion concept well executed.

I am pretty lucky that I am staying here during the opening of J for breakfast. Great selection; including home made yogurt with fresh fruit. However I was rather disappointed that for the hot dishes, we have to pay extra. The day before the opening of J, breakfast price includes hot and cold meal. Nevertheless I enjoyed the fruit and home made yogurt. Everything else is standard hotel food.
