Excellent food and service. This place certainly deserves all of the praise it gets. The chapulines were a treat, and tasty. I loved the apple-mezcal drink. Definitely a go-back to spot when we’re in DF.

I don’t get it. I come to Mex City several times a year and don’t see any reason to come here again. Tried a wide sampling of things, none of which were real standout dishes. The octopus and tlyudas would be my recommendations. Seems like a good spot for a drink and maybe some light snack but not sure I would recommend eating dinner there.

It all began on a Monday night with a great cocktail named: Chagua La Reyna. This drink came smoking to the table and did not disappoint. Mezcal, lemon juice, rosemary, chile de agua, etc. make a great combination. This place uses fresh herbs from the Northern part of Oaxaca which make for a unique taste. We tried the garnachas(sopes with shredded beef) the cheese wrapped in leaves, tamal de frijol(skip it) and the tomato salad(the best, different colors and shapes, served with pesto sauce). Bean soup and chapulines made their way to the table with guacamole and tostadas. From the moles, our table ordered the mole negro with turkey(not my favorite here, sweet, spicy and thick) the verde with pork(husband loved it) the amarillo with beef short rib(I loved it, very tender) and the prehispanic(good) all served with homemade tortillas and a variety of salsas. Decent wine list(we shared three bottles from the Valle de Guadalupe) tried a few mezcals and it ended with cappuccinos and a few desserts. Yes!

After reading positive reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try and boy are we glad! We ate dinner here twice out of our four nights here. We are not the type to eat at a place twice, especially when traveling so we were impressed. Our server, Victor really helped make the experience what it was. He was friendly, charismatic and very informative regarding everything on the menu. We took his suggestions and had no regrets. Yuban specializes in Oaxacan cuisine and had grasshoppers on the menu. They were flavored very well and went good with the guacamole, adding a nice zing. For main dishes, I had the Tlayuda mixto which was delicious and my boyfriend had the amarillito, a fantastic short rib dish that was very juicy and flavorful. The meat was very tender. The pescado dish was excellent as well, the fish cooked to perfection and paired well with two sauces. Being popular for mezcal, the drinks were some of the best, creative and most beautifully presented cocktails I’ve had. I tried one with anis and cardamom, the mojito and one citrus with gin. The chocolate cake dessert was very rich without being overly sweet. It’s on the pricier side however for 3 drinks, 1 appetizer and 2 entrée’s for 40 bucks, it’s a steal for us New Yorker’s where we get charged that much for just being given a menu ;). Highly recommend.

An incredible meal! Our waiter, Victor, guided us through the menu — which was unique and creative. Every recommendation was spot on. We shared the octopus and regretted not ordering two. The flor de calabaza soup was excellent but the mole verde with pork belly was the star of the evening. We ended with a unique dessert of unknown items, chocolate, coffee, cake and sweet fruits, that was perfect. Creative cocktails and great service. Eat here.

This was my first Unilocal spot I visited in the city and to be honest I was a bit hesitant. I figured if it was on Unilocal it’d probably be full of gringos(like me) and sure enough it was. In fact, I wasn’t addressed at all in Spanish much to my disappointment but I mean, it is what it is. The food AND cocktails, however, easily made up for this. I mean everything I had was delicious. And seriously the COCKTAILS! They were divine and just two of them had be pretty much blasted. I also liked that the waiter noticed I had ordered vegetarian items and proceeded to make other recommendations and offer off the menu items. Great service! They also strangely, seemingly sat all the solo diners in the same section — which seemed odd but I ended up making a great friend thanks to this. I’ll definitely be back on my next visit!

My husband and I came here after reading the Unilocal reviews. I am a big foodie. I know that term is lame but I seek out food as an experience and this place did not disappoint. We had: A bean soup as a gift from the kitchen, along with avocado that was whipped and placed on a crisp cracker/tortilla. Then I had the venison, and the tomato salad. My husband had the empanadas and one other dish I can’t remember the name. It was on a giant flaky tortilla that was folded and had chorizo in it. The other highlight was the gin cocktail I got. It had a name with«Rosa» something in it. Everything we are was divine. My only regret was not trying the grasshopper tacos. We will be back when we go to DF again.

We find this place through Unilocal. What a nice surprise, the interior was trendy and cozy. Our waiter Omar was super nice. He was the first waiter we met could speak English in Mexico City. And just very helpful in introducing food to us. Most important thing is that every dish we ordered was surprisingly good. They have beautiful presentation, every dish has attention to texture and balance of taste. Later we found the chef is in the TV show«The Top Chef of Mexico». No wonder. We challenged ourself with the crispy grasshopper, it is REALLY good. Everything was good. We feel lucky to find this place.

Never knew Yuban was there despite being up and down, back and forth on Colima. Yuban hugs Insurgetnes, yet, you manage to hear little to none of the noise that Insurgentes contains — nothing. One wonders how that occurs, but then you become preoccuiped with the available items. Definitely based on Oaxaca items, everything, from the Mole Verde, Mole negra, the appetizers, the choice of drinks, to the chocolate desserts and alternative desserts, to the dishware, to the décor, it is easy to think of Oaxaca. The waiter was amazing, open, friendly suggestive, constantly at our needs, as well as other service staff that were not assigned to our table. We sat in the outdoor seating area, and if you look inside, the bar and stools actually become inviting and more spacious than you would imagine walking by and taking a quick glance. Specializing in mezcals from their menu, as well as many deep and specific dishes — all Oaxacan, this is one of those restraurants tat you would not guess from the outset how much it would satisty you as a customer. The price — this was the most I ever spent on a meal, I have to be honest. Yet, this was one place I did not leave feeling overstuffed, despite the deceiving size of the dinner portion(it fills you completely) the dessert(shared between two), and combined with the order of warm tortillas and ending with coffee — everything hits the spot perfectly — so a little pricier than you will see for most dinners, but you end up leaving completely satisfied, so worth the cost.

I can’t say enough about this wonderful restaurant in the Roma, near the Condesa, neighborhood of Mexico. I don’t know where to start. Victor was our server and he was so attentive and helpful. His English was very good, much better than our Spanish. He knew the cocktail and food menus really well and was happy to offer suggestions. When I asked a question of whether red or white wine would go better with my green mole with pork entrée(which was amazing!), he went and checked with the chef. He then brought me a taste, with the bottles, of two white wines since the chef recommended white. The cocktails were hand crafted, works of art. Inventive and delicious. All the food the four of us had was incredible. The chef sent out two amuse bouche, a bean soup and a crispy shell with guacamole on it with 3 different delicious salsas. Delicious way to wake up our palettes. For starters we had the Oaxacan cheese and the heirloom tomatoes, both were amazing, sublime and just crazy good — I would say they are a MUST! The moles were as good as the ones we had in Oaxaca, if not better. The meats were perfectly cooked, meaning not overcooked, including the pork. The short rib mole was probably the winner, but the steak and pork were delicious as well. They only offer two desserts, a chocolate cake with coffee crumbles and ice cream and a «cheesecake» like dessert. Both were incredible and not too sweet. They had a lot of flavors and components in each dish. My descriptions aren’t doing them justice. While the menu on their website is in Spanish, they do have English menus at the restaurant. Victor brought us a complimentary sipping mescal to try that was soft and not too smokey. It’s serves with orange slices so you take a sip and then bite on the orange. We ended up ordering one to go with dessert. Fabulous. My husband wanted a red wine with dessert and again Victor brought two for him to taste, including the bottle, to chose from. We felt very welcome and incredibly well taken care of. And all the flavors were just amazing. I would go back to this restaurant in a heartbeat!

Wow Cancel whatever plans you had for dinner and make a reservation at Yuban. If you want a true sense of what the Mexico City culinary revolution looks like, you will find it here. Every dish and every drink took my breath away– the plating and presentation was hip and cool, yet the flavors were authentic and familiar. I tried five drinks(yes, five) and loved them all. We had a couple appetizers and a couple of the mole dishes and while I normally suggest an entrée, Yuban seems like they refresh the menu frequently. We ordered enough food to know that you cannot go wrong – but definitely try one of the moles. If you want to tickle your taste buds and have a meal to remember forever, I highly recommend this place. Best dinner in DF. Great ambiance, great service, great neighborhood.

The best meal in DF by far and I want to a say one of the best culinary experiences In my 47 years of my life. First, incredible service with attention to details. Yuban(tierra viva) is a Oaxacan theme restaurant so it was perfect we walked in as Lila Downs voice was part of the ambience. We started with cocktails, I started with the house mezcal that was espadin and it was very tasteful. All the drinks were very well thought and mixed, my favorite was«Chagua La Reyna.» You must have the Pancho Villa at the end of the night! The dinner started with a house appetizer that consisted with a frijol negro soup with sprinkles of chicharron with tlayudas con guacamole that included three different type of salsas. Then we continued with a Salpicon de venado rolled in aguacate, wow what an experience. We continued with a tlayuda vegetariana and a pulpo en brasas that was perfectly executed. The young chef, Fernando Martinez Zavala, is an incredible chef that brings the Oaxacan culinary to another level. We devoured two meals, Chichilo and amarillito. Both were delicious. Dessert came soon after with chocolate mousse and coffee and a cremoso with seared piña that became my favorite until the Chef sent a special dessert on the house that was a Torrija broiche bread with different fruits and a scrumptious helado. If you are visiting Mexico City, Yuban is a must place to visit.

We were so lucky that this restaurant was right around the corner from our Airbnb! This restaurant transports you to to feeling like you’re inside a chic, artisanal market. The best meal we had in Mexico City during our week-long stay. Delicious cocktails, elevated Oaxacan food, so delicious and creative. Beautiful presentation on all dishes. Both the pulpo and the venison were amazing. The empanadas were good, although the least exciting of everything we ordered. The lechon is something I would come back to eat again and again. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake and the daily sorbet, both of which we cleaned the plates. And finished with café de olla, also delicious. We will come back next time we are in town, since the menu changes we can’t wait to see what else will be offered in another season. Like another reviewer said, go here. It’s delicious.

Celebrating my birthday and wanting authentic Mexican food with a flair. I also wanted something different from the usual tacos. Through Unilocal I found this great place. We started with mescal cocktails. They were so good and unusual, we had to try more. Interesting, exotic and do tasty. The food was Oaxacan. Lots of authentic ingredients in exciting preparations. Rich bold flavors that made my palate happy and my heart sing. The desserts were so tempting, but we were so full from the meal that we could not manage it. The moles were rich and inviting, the meats skillfully prepared. The cricket tacos were almost too rich, but we enjoyed them with the drinks. The staff was super friendly and spoke to us in English, as my Spanish is terrible. Go here. Don’t think twice.

What a nice surprise to get some real Oaxaca food on the city. This is as close as you can get to the real deal. The food is amazing and sometimes the flavor will not be familiar even if you are Mexican. Drinks are great and most of them based on Mezcal. Don’t go in a hurry since everything is prepared at the moment. This is a slow food encounter and it would prove to be great!

Among all the varied choices for dining in Mexico City, including some on the top must eat lists out there, and after dining at most of them, Yuban tops the list for me. Loved the meal here! Described as Oaxacan, which to me naively only meant mole, there’s more to the cuisine than that. This place also puts a more modern spin on dishes. We started with molotes and empanadas. Our mains included amarillito con carne de res(beef with yellow sauce) and verde con cerdo(pork with green sauce). Everything was carefully presented and delicious. To accompany our food, they were serving a special mescal cocktail that emitted a smokey air. Not entirely sure what it was, as my understanding of Spanish only goes so far, but the mezcal was crisp, had a slight bite, and went down way too smoothly. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, which my partner decidedly declared one of the best pieces of chocolate cake he had ever eaten. The atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable, dark and cozy — lots of wooden pieces made it feel like we were eating in someone’s home. Also, note, you might miss the entrance as the tiny bar fronts the street and the sign is inconspicuous.

This was my favorite restaurant in Mexico City! Absolutely beautiful dishes, delicious handcrafted cocktails, wonderful service, and a relaxing, zen atmosphere in the restaurant. The menu was a little hard to understand(The ancient dishes didn’t translate perfectly in English) but you can’t really go wrong with the menu here. The tomato salad was perfect, a gorgeously garnished variety of delicious multicolored tomatoes and ground basil sauce. Delicious sauces came out with the complimentary chip appetizer. The mole with beef was my favorite, tender delicious meat with plenty of sauce. I could have sipped the delicious mezcal cocktails all night, the were beautifully presented with dry ice and herb garnish. The best part… great price!!! For 70US we had 3 drinks, appetizer, 2 entrees. Overall a wonderful spot!

Our appetizers were delicious. Had some yummy tomato salad that was out of this world. All the food we had was fresh and very tasty. At first I thought this place was going to be stuffy and pretentious but it turned out to be homey and laid back. Everything that we wanted.
