You should try everything. Arepa, kaxapa, plantain sandwich. They give you a sample of all the juices, my favorite was the soursop. Great desert too.

It’s kind of funny for an American in Mexico to seek out Venezuelan food, but you should seriously consider doing so. Cachapas in particular are a little-known delicacy that aren’t to be missed. The proprietor is very friendly and the food is wonderful. He brought us a flight of drink samples including a cane lemonade, passion fruit, and chicha, a rice drink similar to Mexican Horchata. We returned twice during a four day stay in PdC.

I visited Caracas and fell in love with Venezuelan food. I was so excited to stumble upon this little gem in Playa Del Carmen. I loved the chicken and avacado arepa it was amazing and authentic. The owner was so nice and friendly and brought us a tasting of some of her drinks. The coffee was delicious and organic. I will be back next time I am visiting Playa Del Carmen.

12 people — last day of a 7 day trip and we just had the best lunch of the week. Fantastic and friendly service. Purified water even in the ice cubes. Highly recommend highly recommend. The pricing is amazing and all of the food is fresh. A great diversion from the hustle and bustle of the main avenues.

To be honest this is the first and only place I’ve had Venezuelan cuisine. Having said that, they set the bar high with their delicious food and fresh juices! Everytime we come we order too much but it never stops us when we come again bc every dish is so tasty! The staff is friendly and the food is wonderful.

The best venezuelan food I had tried ever. I recommend pabellón arepa and pabellón empanada! Try ‘chicha’ juice! Tequeños are delicious and for dessert ask for coco quesillo

Kaxapa Factory is a hidden gem and we really had to look for it in the narrow streets of Playa! But it is a wonderful place for Venezuelan food. It’s a family run establishment and the owner is extremely friendly with customers. For the price that you pay, you get a lot of food. And everything tastes great from Kaxapa. We ordered a carry out lunch, but the owner provided us with some complimentary drinks as we were waiting for our food. He’s very good at explaining the menu and answers any questions you have. I highly recommend this place!

I’ll just leave the note I was driven to write them! I am crazy about this food and the family that owns this place. After only meeting them two times…” I’m so excited to be able to visit you again. I was there this summer with my two girls and a friend, then returned with my girls and my cousin! You danced with my daughter, Brooklyn and we’re so gracious with their kid like behavior. I crave your delicious food regularly and look forward to seeing you all again! Wishing you all the best. See you in March. P. S. I will be bribing you somehow for your lentil soup recipe! Much love :) –Bernice”

I am all about new and fun experiences and eating here was definitely new and fun! I thought this restaurant did a great job of introducing people to Venezualen food. The owner especially is so animated and joyful. We ended up talking to him for quite a bit and learned a lot about Venezualan life and culture. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about how the food is made and its ingrediants! I have a hard time recommending any one thing on he menu since we got a variety of stuff and it was all really good. Just order what you think sounds best and I think you will be happy with the outcome :) Expert tip: This place fills up so get here EARLY for dinner — around 5 or 6pm would be ideal. Otherwise you may find yourself waiting in a very long line.

Primero que todo el dueño nos recibió con una energía maravillosa. Nos dio unos jugos para probar y después nos dio bolas de queso. El patacon y el plato típico Venezolano fue excelente. Se lo recomiendo a todo el mundo!!!

Like everyone else who has posted thus far, this was our favorite spot to eat at during our vacation in Playa del Carmen. We were a bit spoiled because was hotel was literally next door, but it would have been fully worth the trek even if we were staying across town. This family-run Venezuelan restaurant was the perfect culinary experience, from start to finish. When we were seated, our waiter went over the entire menu with us and answered all of our questions. Luckily, there is no way you can go wrong with any of the unique menu items, and you should definitely diversify as much as you can – the prices certainly are amenable to doing so. Halfway through our meal, the lovely owner of the restaurant came over and chatted with us, and gave his recommendations for sightseeing. We sampled all of the delicious house drinks, and during our second visit, he even gave us a sample of their delicious coconut flan, on the house. He was an adorably genuine and exuberant man, and lit up the entire room. Don’t miss out on this exceptional restaurant in Playa!

We came for the Unilocal reviews and I would go back just to see Pepe jumping, clapping, laughing and making guests feeling at home. This character welcomed us asking if that was our 2nd or 3rd time in there, but at the moment we said it was our 1st time, he disappeared while saying he would bring some samples of their amazing waters for us to pick our favorite… I picked the passion fruit cuz my companion picked the soursop…(I was struggling in my tongue between picking one of those), however, I knew I could have some more sips of it by sharing 3:) But it didn’t happen… It was so good that my aspirations of interchanging drinks disappeared with the lentil soup :( We ordered the appetizer with the 8 corn kind of hot cakes, which included toppings of chicken, beef, and fresh cheese, along with 2 salsas… Careful with the red one. The beef topping was the one I liked the most. Don Pepe offered to split one lentil soup in two bowls because he recognized their portions are big!!! Damn!!! He won my hearth with this because that showed they don’t care about selling, they care about satisfaction… Pummm to all the greediness in Playa. We were satisfied, but still curious about the Venezuelan magnificent empanada… It was huge, stuffed with plantain, beans, cheese, and meat: 100% recommendable. Awesome for this family-owned place run by good-hard working people. Stop by, don’t waste money and time.

We came to Playa Del Carmen for the day. We checked out Unilocal and saw this place had awesome reviews, so we decided to try it. Wow — we were sure glad we did. Wasn’t much of a touristy place and we got their early(5:30P). By the time we left there was a short, but manageable line. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner. He was very nice and informative. He went over the menu with us and explained what different items were. He brought us out a sampling of the drinks, so we could taste and then pick what we liked. All of the food was made from the best ingrediants. The tastes were wonderful as we tried many things we had never tried before. It was a true foodie experience! So we had appetizers, main courses and deserts. 4 people for around $ 40USD — can’t beat it! Would I come here again? Absolutley.

Great cheap place for a very filling meal! They accept credit cards. No AC but they do have ceiling fans so dress comfortably. Run by a husband and wife team, the wife was very kind to explain to us the menu. They also gave us a 4 drink sampler of soursop, passion fruit, rice milk, and Venezuelan lemonade. Patacone mixto 5⁄5 — fried plantain pancake with shredded beef, cheese, and chicken with avocado on a bed of fresh greens and dressing Beef Empanada 5⁄5 — you could taste this was homemade Cachapa Mechada 5⁄5 — salty sweet corn pancake stuffed with shredded beef, cheese, and avocado Red sauce was spicy; green sauce was delicious with everything! There are just a handful of tables so may need to wait during a busy time, but there’s a park across the street for you to get takeout if you wish so you can sit there to eat. The owners are so gracious and were extremely kind!!! The 3 dishes above and 2 drinks was $ 16USD! Portions are filling and the meal above was definitely enough for 2 people.

This place is highly reviewed for a reason! I absolutely loved the guy here-he made the effort to know our names and talk to us. The place was packed(only seats about 20 people), so we decided to take our food to go(you can sit right outside on the steps in the mini park across the street). In the meantime, he brought over 4 sample juices for us to try, and some chairs for the ladies to sit in. I had the beef arepa and beef kaxapa, and both were absolutely delicious! I must say that I loved the arepa the most-it was so crispy, hot and fresh! You can also add a couple sauces that they give you as well. He also threw in some free chocolate dessert that his daughter made. Aww… too sweet. Definitely come here when you’re in the area, the food is great and the service is amazing!

The best meal I’ve had in Mexico. After reading all the rave reviews, this may come to no surprise though I was completely caught off guard by Kaxapa Factory. THENICEST family I got to talk to in both English and Spanish in Mexico, I felt like I was being invited into their home rather than grabbing a last meal before leaving the country. Recommending this to anyone that ends up even close to Playa, especially if you’ve looking for a great meal.

Great food here. Just sampled a few drinks and they’re all great and unique. One tastes like horchata but it’s much thicker. The sauces are delicious and the fried cheese ball appetizer rocked. Then we got a bean and cheese empanada(I’m a meat eater but this was the best just simple and delicious). The Arepa filled with cheese, plantain, beams and shredded beef was especially tasted since we couldn’t resist adding avocado to it. Wish we could eat more. Until next time. Please show this Mom and Daughter team the support they deserve bringing their Salvadorian flavors to PDC. And not sure if it’s a secret but they have wifi witch makes it a perfect spot to just grab a snack and regroup. Don’t forgot there’s so much great stuff off of 5th Ave.

Fantastic Venezuelan food in Mexico. Everything you heard is true, go now. We came hungry and left so satisfied. They let you sample all of their specialty drinks and we settled on the Venezualan lemonade and the passionfruit drinks. The soursop and horchata-like drink were equally delicious. The food. From arepas to cachapas — get all the eats. You can’t go wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the patacon with the chicken salad. My boyfriend and I both ordered different things and switched plates halfway through. Cachapas are a sweet/salty flavor bomb. Owner is a sweetheart. I can’t say enough great things about all of them. When she found out my birthday was coming up, she packaged up some coconut flan for me to enjoy later.(as I had no room in my belly) On my actual birthday, I got sick. My boyfriend returned here to eat again and when she found out I was sick, sent him back with chicken soup. I was so surprised and touched she would do that. Support this awesome business!

This location is about three blocks north of 5th street across from a courtyard on 10th street. The restaurant itself is clean and the owner is extremely friendly. Ramon(owner) explained every dish and provided us with samples of house drinks and was so attentive. He even mingled with us before our food came out telling us how he migrated from Venezuela. Now, the food was DELICIOUS! My boyfriend and I had the chicken cachapa as an entrée and the Arepas as an appetizer. We could not even finish it was so much food! The Cachapa is similar to a gordita HOWEVER the outer shell is made entirely out of corn making it a healthier version. We met another American there who also is a health nut and he loved it as well. The chicken is so tender and vegetables are fresh. But the flavor is what makes this place different from the rest!
