I gotta admit i was scared to come to El Malecon at night. Ive been coming to Rocky Point for over 8 years and never really came to El Malecon. The way i see it El Malecon has two environments/environments: During the day: For the tourist who wants to buy the usual souveniers or hand made items. As well as a day drink or food. During the night(after 8): Alot more locals come here. Its full of entertainment. There was at least 5 bands playing banda, nortenas, tamboraso, cumbias and more that were setting up after I left. People were dancing and having a good time. Not just adults but you see kids and complete families. Yes many people are drinking and have their coolers(don’t be surprised to see kids drinking, legal drinking age is 18 and you will think teens are drinking). There is a lot more food carts during the night and a lot cheaper. If you go up the stairs in the center of El Malecon you will see more small food trucks. Don’t be afraid come here and step out of just the bar geared toward tourists. I would suggest not staying after 9:30 as most business close and it seems its all partying and drinking if you have kids. Overall a good time and quite the experience. Reminds me of my childhood times in Michoacan when we used to go visit.

The Malecon(waterfront in Spanish) District is where you want to go to get a feel for the pulse of the town, good and not so much. The not so much: parking near your destination is nearly impossible, so use the free parking under the arch at the north end as you drive in. It’s on the right. Do NOT go there(or even to Puerto Penasco) during Easter Week. The entire city is jammed with visitors, and chances are that most places are closed, and this street and Calle 13 are inaccessible. The good: At least 20 bars and restaurants to choose from: American, Mexican, Steak, Seafood, Italian, Continental, Ice Cream, Coffee Houses, all subject to change. OXXO Convenience Store Pemex Gas Station 30 – 40 gift shops, large and small. Shop 9 – 11 am for best prices. Try to negotiate prices. At least try. Best hotel in the area: Vina del Mar Wear comfortable shoes ‘cuz you’re gonna need them.

Great place to go for fresh seafood to take home, and lots of good restaurants to choose from. Nice views and a cool place to go and hang out.
