My husband and I dined at Chenan2 at the recommendation of Unilocal. The restaurant is simple, well maintained and charming. We were greeted warmly. The menu consists of fresh seafood, steaks and pasta. I had the Special fish, which for that night was freshly caught Mahi Mahi. It was topped with 6 large perfectly cooked shrimp. It had a wonderful lite sauce and some cheese. Excellant. My husband had the Steak with peppers. Steak aupoivre in US. Perfectly cooked Filet Mignon steak in a creamy pepper sauce. He said the Steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. Service was attentive and friendly. Full bar. Very reasonable prices. Make a reservation to insure that you have a table.

First visit this trip and I had high expectations given all the rave reviews. It was good and I’d try it again but there were a few issues that keep the fourth or fifth star in the wings. Went fairly early(6:30ish) and there was only one other table so we had our choice of tables — selected the back room which was a mistake — way noisy by the bar with the blender going full time — sit up front. Pretty straightforward menu — the usual offerings of fish, seafood, pasta and steak. Nothing particularly creative but I’m OK with that if the execution is exceptional. Started with a fairly simple green salad but everything fresh and they served the dressing on the side instead of drenching it — I like that a lot. I had the filet which was cooked perfectly and quite tasty although it didn’t resemble any filet I’ve ever seen. I think all cows(even Mexican ones) are the same anatomically but, like the rib eye I had a few days later at Florios, they don’t look like the same cuts we see at home. Anyway it was very good if a little chewier than most filets — served with twice baked potato(not as good as Café de Olla) and some perfectly al dente fresh asparagus. My dining partner had the coconut shrimp that they are very proud of — marinated in advance etc. Neither of us liked them at all. I think the marinating takes away from the flavor of the shrimp and does nothing to improve the texture. Plus, they use obviously pre-shredded sweetened coconut. Combined with the sweet sauce it was like eating a fishy dessert — fail. Service was fine — long wait for a check with another group of diners hanging out hovering over us waiting for our table — not a great way to end the meal but there really isn’t anywhere else for waiting diners to hang out. So — A-OK it was but not the dining revelation for us that many find here.

This place is worth finding. Nice atmosphere & excellent menu items. I had the appetizer of crepes with cheese. Yummy! Large enough to share. My entrée was a mix of assorted seafood baked in 3 large shells with cheese. Think Rockerfeller style. The service is friendly & I definately will return. No credit cards.

You may not want to leave Puerto Vallarta without eating dinner here first. Family owned and farm to table fresh meals. Service is excellent in the Mexican tradition!

I found this place on Unilocal and Trip Advisor. Both gave it 5 stars, so naturally I had to try it out. First of all, it is not on the well beaten path. It is located in a more residential area, about 6 blocks up from the beach, on the south side of Downtown PV. Please… don’t let that discourage you. You must try this place, trust me on this one. Chenen2 has two seating sections, the Entrance has an open air section, go further inside and there is an air conditioned section. Very necessary during the summer and fall. The restaurant is a family run affair. Father is the Chef, mother, two adult sons and some kitchen staff. I ordered the Fillet Mignon, my wife ordered the shrimp crepes, and we ordered for starters, the guacamole. The guacamole was delicious, well balanced with the avocado as the star. Not too much onion, or cilantro, with perfectly fried chips. With the order came two types of chili salsas, delicious, and pico de gallo. Outstanding! Then came the main course served with garlic toasted bread on the side. The fillet came with a side of vegetables/perfectly prepared asparagus tips, and a ½ stuffed baked potato and a mushroom sauce served on the side in a dish, with mushrooms, butter, bacon pieces and garlic. Please take those ingredients with a grain of salt because I’m doing it by taste, not by their description. The fillet was melt in your mouth fantastic, better than in the best steakhouses in Los Angeles, and when topped with the mushroom sauce, just delightful. The stuffed baked potato was so good with cheese and I think sour cream, incredible! Large enough portions to satisfy this big appetite. My wife’s crepes were just out of this world in flavor, texture and such a large portion. The sauce was delicate and flavorful. We needed to bring ½ of it home to our apartment for breakfast the next day! Yum. Debra(wife), ordered a beer, and I had iced tea. The tea by the way was nothing like I had ever tasted, flavored with lime juice, it tasted almost alcoholic, but I was assured it was not.(Verified by wife Debra) The meal was rounded up with some home made chocolate covered raisins. We didn’t have any room for dessert but, if you do have room, I would suggest you order some. The total bill came to about $ 40US. I can’t believe they produce such a wonderful meal for that price! The staff was attentive, friendly and ready to help with suggestions. This is by far, the best restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. This is paradise in paradise! Do not miss this place when you visit PV!

Outstanding food. We decided to go to this restaurant based on good reviews in trip advisor, I’ve been burned with good reviews for bad restaurants from TA before, so I was somewhat skeptical when we first drove up to this restaurant. It’s kinda off the beaten path in Lazaro Cardenas street. The restaurant itself is not a glitzy or fancy place. It’s a clean, small and simple place so if you’re looking for a fancy place this is not it. The restaurant is a family owned business and the attention you get from the staff is outstanding, very polite and attentive guys. Let’s get to the food, very few places in my 52 years of going to restaurants have impressed me as much as this place. From the sauces, beef and seafood we had, everything was excellent. We specially liked the Pulpo al Ajillo and the seafood burrito. The fillet mignon with shrimp was cooked to perfection and the dessert are all homemade. Please make sure you visit Chenan2s, on your next trip to Puerto Vallarta.

Based on the recommendation of Guillermo at Salud Superfoods, which is a terrific place to eat in and of itself, the Dr. and I went to Chenan2 for dinner tonight. Smaller place back up in the residential part of PV. Most would not find this place without knowing about it. No tourist stuff up in this part of town. If you didn’t find it, you’d be missing out on one of the best meals in town. Fernando is a self taught cook doing some really wonderfully delicious stuff. He cooks out front while his sons and family handle the service inside. The place was spic and span clean. Well ordered. Everything in sight cleaned and placed. The service by family members was attentive, professional, friendly. The environment was super clean, well kept, quiet. The food was superb. After a delicious bowl of freshly made guac without the onions, I had the filet with mushrooms, asparagus and carrots. And ordered a second entre of the jumbo shrimp and beans just to try it. The Dr. had the mahi-mahi with veggies. We were both surprised with how quickly we downed this delicious stuff. I mean plate licking fast! After resting our chops, we passed on desert and sat out front with Fernando Sr. while we waited on a cab. While we had walked two miles to the restaurant from our timeshare, we knew walking back was out of the question. A cheerful goodbye, a thrilled heart having discovered this find… and already making plans to head back in the next two days to experience the neighborhood, the restaurant, the family and the food. You should do likewise. Soon.
