Welcome to the back area of Garibaldi in the Mercado de La Cruz. A myriad of the stalls’ cooks and servers are inviting hungry patrons to take a seat, reciting as most of the menu as they can in the 5 second window it takes for them to walk by each individual stall, hoping that they will say the magic word it will take for the eater to sit down and provide for their own economy. A good place to take a seat is in Don Chamorro, a vendor specializing in chamorro, or pork leg, cooked carnitas-style. Your options at this taqueria are limited, will you eat by the taco or order ½ kg, salsa or no salsa on your taco, and what will you have to drink? Easy menu to navigate and easy to enjoy. The tacos are fairly big; served in a double tortilla, each taco may easily become two. The meat shines through the corn-based vessel, juicy and fatty, with a great flavor that lingers moments after taking a bite. There is no cilantro or onion to garnish your taco with, which makes for a sad Mexican, but you can partly make it up by adding some of their salsa, which contains both veggies and is not too spicy. Breakfast or brunch, these tacos are a good way for an early or late start to the day.
