Posada Margherita has some amazing chefs producing amazing food. We dined here in late February and loved it. My fiancé is Italian and we live in NYC, so we have a lot of experience with eating delicious Italian food and Posada blew us away. The mushroom pasta and shrimp dish had incredible flavor. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. Definitely will return here on our next trip to Tulum!

the bread that opened the meal was the best part. and the caprese salad was ok. the service was abysmal. the home-made pasta was well done and pretty good, but the sauce that accompanied it reminded me of something i would have made in college. overdone, not that flavorful. all around kind of eh. i feel bad saying negative things, but i really just didn’t think the food was that special. the atmosphere was beautiful, cute design, good concept. but i wish i would have had the regular tomato sauce and i wish the staff would have paid attention to the guests so that we could have had another drink. the dessert was great too.

The setting is lovely, and service is great. The pasta is fresh made from scratch when you order it, and it shows. I wanted to get the fish, but heard so many amazing reviews about the pasta that I went with that instead(there’s always Casa Banana’s whole fish). The drink I ordered wasn’t to my taste(a combo of whiskey & rose & something else) but the meal was delicious. It’s on par with excellent Italian in NY, and definitely cures an Italian craving.

Stunning stunning stunning! My trip to Tulum was several months ago and if I can recall one dining experience it would be this one. It’s a beautiful outdoor space, with an open kitchen, and the sounds of the chefs, ocean, and guest’s conversation from all over the world. Interesting menu. Wonderful breeze at night with dim light. Some of the best pasta of my entire life. I count down the days til I can revisit!

Made to order homemade pasta, shrimp dishes and good wine selection. Italian waiters with sexy italian accents! This beachfront gem is worth the visit, and they serve gluten free pasta if you go that route. be prepared for a relaxed meal with a good vibe and likely a packed house. The caprese salad had THE best burrata(was told it was from Italy) I’ve ever had, served with tomatoes and arugula. Cash only, prob take a taxi there. If in Tulum, don’t miss this delightful restaurant.

BEWARE: CASHONLY. The sad thing is that the food is pretty good, and the atmosphere is nice. But the following kind of ruins the experience. 1– Service is not very welcoming and you have the ilpressiln to bother when you arrive. 2– a lot of delay while waiting for the food, for the drinks, for the bill. 3– Then, when you get the bill, you have the amount in pesos, 2700 for the 4 of us, and the option to pay in USD, with the exchange rate of 13 pesos for 1USD(the bank rate being 19…). Well anyway, I’ll pay by credit card! Huh, actually no, because it’s cash only! Here’s where it gets tricky. The good news is that they havve an ATM, The bad news is that it serves in USD(I still dont get WHY someone would like to get USD in Tulum?) so in a way you are forced to pay in USD with around 30% more to the bill due to the imposed ridiculous exchange rate! Or you go to Tulum city get an ATM… I really find this not honest to accept only cash and to push people to pay in USD.

Great atmosphere and Amazing pasta. What more could you ask for? This place he genuine, authentic northern Italian cuisine. The menu isn’t huge, but it doesn’t need to be, because everything is amazing. Enjoy some freshly rolled pasta and have a glass of wine on the beach. This place is definitely worth spending an afternoon or evening at while visiting Tulum.

Delicious. It felt a little strange though that every other person in the restaurant looked like they had a highly-trafficked Instagram & corresponding fashion blog and was from TRIBECA/WILLAMSBURG/SILVERLAKE /AUSTIN /PORTLANDIA. No matter though — my husband and I are from Brooklyn so who are we to talk! The food was fresh, nicely seasoned, great portions & relaxed and friendly service. This is would be the place to take your parents — not necessarily to explore local culture.

I have never in my life had made-to-order pasta. I can’t even describe how delicious it was. The whole place was just beautiful with the candles and right on the beach. The staff and in particular, the managers, were SO amazing. I do recommend getting there early as they did get totally packed. Also, it’s CASHONLY and there is not an ATM anywhere near there.

Oh boy, where do I start? I miss Tulum. Everything about it is awesome. The food… well, let’s start with Posada! This restaurant came highly recommended by many friends and even people we met on our trip! If you’ve eaten too much Mexican food and want a change in your tasting palette, this is the place for you! It’s the cutest place ever. The walk into the restaurant is an Instagram photo waiting to be taken. I kid you not. As for the food, they brought out a complimentary assortment of bread and cheeses. Almost ate everything because I was starving. We decided to order a seafood dish, pasta and caprese salad so we could all try a little bit of different dishes. Take a look at my picture! The shrimp was fresh and drenched in white wine. And don’t get me started on the pasta… that was to die for. The caprese was a dairy dream come true! We all got a juice on the side. The watermelon is a must! My mister got a beet one and that didn’t taste as good as it looked. All in all. A+++ for the food. And who wouldn’t want to eat at a place with a beautiful view of the white sands and crystal blue waters? Downside is that they don’t accept credit cards, so you will need USD or pesos. The ATM’s only dispense USD, so plan accordingly!

SO good we ate here twice for dinner & we were only in Tulum for 4 nights! The menu only has a select few items — a few pastas, a few seafood/shrimp dishes & a couple salads. We chose the marinara pasta dish the first night which was amazingly fresh. The pasta is homemade and super freshly made in their kitchen. You get a complimentary bread/cheese/veggie basket as well. The breads have amazing spices, dried tomatoes & onions on top and are mouth watering. The second time we went, we chose the shrimp pasta dish. Linguini was the type of pasta and I preferred it to the Penne pasta. Price wise: id say it’s about equal to a nicer Italian restaurant in the states but every penny was worth it. They don’t take credit card(along with most places in Tulum) so bring cash! I’ll be dreaming of Pasada for months onward.

The next time I am back in Tulum I will be back to eat here. Not only that, but quite possibly stay at the Posada Margherita Hotel. This place had such a neat vibe! It’s on the beach and was so adorable! The reason I am not giving Posada 5 stars is because they do not accept credit card. This was a huge pain. Not because we had to walk to the ATM, but because at times this area is a tourist trap and most ATMs in the area only dispensed US dollars with a huge fee, or the ATMs were out of service. The food. Delicious!!! I had one of the most amazing pasta dishes that I have had in a long time. I also had a tequila mule and that was awesome! They also give the table a huge bread basket with many different types bread, olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper, and fresh Parmesan cheese. A huge too when going to Tulum — get cash(Mexican pesos) out at the airport ATM and get plenty. It’s the best rate and lots of places in Tulum only accept cash(both US dollars and Mexican pesos). Pesos being a better deal, of course! Posada Margherita… ill be back :)

I’m conflicted to give this place 3 stars. The food was amazing! Super fresh and flavorful. Which where all the stars come from. The drinks were mediocre and The service was lousy. It took us forever to get our order in and it took forever to get our check. I felt that we were ignore and they just catered to the beautiful, trendy Tulum crowd. Which doesn’t make anyone feel good after eating a great meal. It’s also very expensive in terms of Mexican prices. Cheaper if you come from big cities a like NYC and London. If you want to treat yourself to a great meal in a beautiful beachfront restaurant with lousy service, then come here. Otherwise, there are better restaurants in the beach area with better service and equally great food.

The food is great, but when you have no soap and no paper towels in your bathroom and you are packed with people traveling from all over the world, people will get sick. It’s really a simple formula. We ate there on 12/29, suffered norovirus by the following night. It’s not the food that you get sick from, it’s the dirty tourists and the lack of the ability to wash your hands! If they would just put one of those hand sanitizer dispensers up and ensure they kept the soap and paper towels stocked, we would not have this problem.

The most heartbreaking part about Posada Margherita is that the food was actually pretty good. It was the journey before and after eating it that gets one star. We arrived shortly after 6:30pm with a group of 9 and put our names in. We were told it would be about an hour, but to stick around since it could be shorter since the two other large groups ahead of us had left the restaurant to wait elsewhere and might not come back. After 90 minutes and watching multiple groups of 8 – 10 who had come after us get seated, we began to ask why we were not being seated. We were told one table was only big enough for 6, except they then sat a group of 8(which is what it was set for). After a few more instances of us being«next» only to see others go ahead, the hostess finally admitted that she just took names down — it was the owner who decided who was sat and where. At this point the owner came over and at first said he didn’t seat groups of 9, which was odd considering groups of 9 and 10 had already been seated ahead of us. This was followed by a lot of arguing, the details of which I will spare you. We sat in a waiting area around a coffee table about 2 hours and 15 minutes after arriving, which was presented by the owner as bending over backwards to accommodate us. When a table finally opened up 30 minutes later while we were eating a salad, the hostess told us we could move to it as there were no large groups waiting. As we were moving, this of course started another altercation with the owner who said that he moved things around to seat us and would not move us to a proper table. At this point there was a yelling match during which he again invited us to leave. Oddly enough, 5 minutes later the hostess came over and moved us to the table, as half of the restaurant had cleared out and it must have become pretty clear to the owner that they did not need to keep that table open. So, pretty atrocious service. The food was nice. The focaccia spread(a few breads, lightly pickled cauliflower, Parmesan chunks) was nice, the pasta was well done, as was the shrimp. At least until some of our party spent the wee hours of the morning vomiting. We also had the caprese salad, as others have noticed, but not sure if that was the cause. Bottom line: solid Italian food if you can handle being lied to, insulted, overcharged, and ill.

I think the food is probably fine. The reason I saw«I think» is that we ordered appetizers, a pasta, and a fish. We had just received our appetizer, which was delicious, when they brought the pasta and the fish. I told the waiter we were still on our appetizer(we had been in the restaurant 10 minutes), and he walked away. I said something to the floor manager and she walked away. Finally someone came over and took the food away. No apology, no offer to make it right. Appetizer is taken away, and the pasta and the fish show up together(!!) immediately after. Pasta is gluey, fish is cold. The bill was brought when we still had food on our table. They tried to clear the dishes twice when we were eating. So, I guess they were in a huge hurry to turn the table. It’s too bad. We spend quite a bit of time in Tulum, as do our friends.

Good Italian food, relaxing environs, a bit over-styled, definitely overpriced. We had a wonderful lunch at Posada Margherita and it was the most expensive casual meal of our trip. Tulum is generally quite a bit cheaper than either Playa or Cancun, but Posada’s prices are more on par with a sexy eatery in Playa. That’s okay, the food is good. The grilled shrimp dish was outstanding and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. This place isn’t for everyone — it caters to Brooklynites, stylish seaside-dressed Europeans and models who are in town for Vogue shoots. If you’re wearing your Hard Rock Cancun t-shirt and pleated-front khaki shorts with Teva sandals, you might feel out of place. Take off your clothes and soak up the sun in one of the complimentary sun beds with purchase of a meal.

Right… Someone from our hotel in Playa del Carmen recommended this place when we said we’d be driving to Tulum. I thought the whole experience was underwhelming. We arrived around noon and put our stuff on 2 beds. We waited for a few minutes but no one ever came to greet us so M ordered drinks inside. When it came to lunch time, we looked at the menu. The menu by itself to me was very limited, simple and boring. But in the meantime we had been lying on their beds for about 2 hours and so I felt obliged to have lunch there. I probably shouldn’t have been but that’s me. The food menu has nothing under 225 pesos. Pretty much everything is in the 300 range. I had a vegetarian pasta and M had one with shrimp. Oh by the way, all the pastas are vegetarian besides the one with shrimp. The food was just ok. And by that I mean really just ok. I didn’t even eat half of my plate to be honest. My pasta was really soft, broken and mushy. It lacked flavor and was a waste of calories. Service was not very welcoming or pro-active. The crowd was a mix of pretentious and hipsters. The plus side is they don’t charge for the beds, so if you like the food, go for it. The bill for 2 pastas and 2 non-alcoholic drinks was $ 900 pesos.

We loved this place so much we ate here twice during our stay in Tulum. The food is authentic Italian. The pasta is made fresh to order and the vegetables and seafood are all fresh. Our favorites were the margherita pasta, the bread plate(off the menu order), and the vegetable pasta. The walkway to the restaurant is through a jungle-y scene but the tables are on the beach. There is seating on a deck area and seating in the sand. All tables have a view of the beach and are lit by candlelight which makes for a romantic environment. The menu is in Italian which adds to the authenticity and the staff explained everything thoroughly and all spoke English, Spanish, and Italian. Both times we went for dinner, the service was good. Something we noticed everywhere in Tulum is that service is a little bit slower and the expectations are different than in the USA. We live in Mexico City and I felt the service in Tulum was comparable to other towns have visited in Mexico. Also, the cash«scam» I noticed some people mentioning is at every restaurant we went to. Unfortunately, the only safe ATM that dispenses pesos is in town which is a 5 min taxi ride from the beach. Most other«ATM’s only deposit dollars, every restaurant upcharges for dollars, and most places only accept cash. My recommendation is to withdraw as many pesos as possible at the airport before coming. Hopefully, Tulum will change this practice in the near future.

I pay homage to Justin L. who nailed it with his recent review. Thanks for the honest, articulate review. I’d rather read some truth than some happy fluff that doesn’t inform me. Pity I’d already been to the place though, long before Justin. You can read my reviews and see I rarely trash a business, because I generally respect that livelihoods are at stake. Strap yourself in dear readers, and proceed with caution. At PM I was particularly off-put by the entire experience at this restaurant, even though I was mellowed by a week at Riviera Maya being treated with respect. First of all, we had to wait forever just to order. They didn’t have a menu, so we had to wait for a European stoner dude to finish his bong session out the back somewhere to come and tell us what was available. When he finally arrived with his bloodshot eyes, he basically told us what we were going to order. He’s damn lucky I didn’t want to raise my blood pressure by telling him what I was thinking. We should have left then, and regretted not doing so. Somehow, they think its all about them. I liked the view, but the same view is free by walking out onto the beautiful beach. The place is hugely overpriced, and the food wasn’t that great. It’s just pasta for God’s sake. The wine prices were ridiculous for rural Mexico. Why bother with tablecloths — its extra work to wash them, right? We don’t need comfortable chairs, cause this is Mexico, right? Hang loose on the wooden benches people! It’s all good. I can’t comment on the service because they didn’t have any. It was ultra casual and the staff were having a great time at a snail’s pace. Point is — this wasn’t a fraternity backyard BBQ. It was supposed to be a restaurant. If I want pretension, I’ll go to Beverly Hills. At least there they’ll call me sir when they siphon my money.
