The smell of roasting potatoes lured us in from the street. We had a quick wait, then our party of six were seated. Everyone was excited for a nice hearty meal, and the steak sizes were surely the biggest I have ever seen in real life. All cuts were $ 39, which included the salad bar. I opted for the eye fillet and paid extra for a jacket potato and sour cream on top. We got stuck into the salad bar straight away. It was pretty disappointing, with a few vegetable dishes and a couple of cold pasta salads. The steak was great, perfectly cooked medium rare. Unfortunately the jacket potatoes weren’t crispy at all and could have done with a lot more time in the oven. Overall I felt like it probably wasn’t worth the $ 40 a head price tag compared to other meals I’ve had in Auckland, but if you’re after a whopper of a high quality steak and aren’t too fussed about the sides or wine list, then you should check Angus out.

Great meat, great service! Love to come back in Auckland. I had an eye fillet was about 400g per piece, cooked medium rare in naked and would have exactly the same next time.

Hard to fault the simplicity. Pick your meat from the rack. They cook it perfectly. Buffett salad bar — as much as you like. Delicious sides. It’s all about the beef and the beef is epic. If I’m back in Auckland, I’ll be back for sure.

Let me start by saying that I’m not really a big red meat eater and was here for a work event and therefore didnt choose the rest. or pay for the meal. I found the serving of steak for lunch far too large, about 250gms, let alone the steaks for dinner(they most of been at least 500gms) and with only a choice of rib eye or sirlon cuts for the smaller lunch option. The Salad bar was really fresh with interesting options, broccoli and carrots, couscous and beans. but with no labels on the salad dressing it was hard to tell what flavor you where adding. Cant really comment on the service, a part of the group was already seated and there was a offer of drinks and we had to ask about how the meat selection worked. Steak was cooked as ordered and served with a great garlicky sauce. I would recommend if you really like steak apart from that avoid.

If you´re not a die-hard carnivore a trip to Angus Steak House could cause you nightmares. The hidden entrance in a dark side-alley leads directly to the open meat-rack where you can chose your personal piece of meat and demand how it should be cooked. The salad-buffet is «all you can eat», but I have to say that I was not really impressed with the rather limited options available. To be fair: the place was always pretty packed during my visits and the buffet is very, very busy. The meat was always pretty good, nothing spectacular given the overall excellent quality you find in NZ(although some Kiwis have told me that the true top-shelf meat is bound for export). The side-dishes were o.k. although I a bit disappointed with the fries. I would highly recommend a table on the ground floor. The top-floor is quite narrow and your chair might always be in the way of leaving/arriving guests or the waiters. I know a lot of people who love this place and I have never seen so many single men happily fighting with a peace of meat too big for their plate… well, at least not in a restaurant.

Drop everything and grab a steak at this place. You will not be disappointed. From the fresh salad bar to selecting your own piece of NZ meat, this restaurant gives the customer the freedom to piece together the perfect meal. Big fan of this grill!

The steaks we’re awesome ! The salad bar is moderate which is in tandem with the service and friendliness. The price is reasonable though.

Have been here a few times but the last time was not so good as previous visits, which were all good both service and food wise. On the most recent occasion I chose a larger piece of steak from the sizeable selection and asked for it be cooked to medium. Not so, it had been done medium rare when finally came to the table. I did not realise this until after a few pieces but chose not to complain(must have been one of them night’s when I just wanted to leave things be and not cause a ruckas) but instead ate a little bit more then decided to take the rest home as you can do here. The steaks can be big so chances are a few people could end up doing the same. The salad bar was okay and you can go back as much as you want to get more. That was probably the best thing about the most recent visit. As for the service they took a long time to come look after us for drinks . I do like the place for the ambience. Find it nice and relaxing. That is until you get a large table full of loud men come sit next to yours!!! Like I said this visit nowhere near as good as the rest. Would come back though, but not for quite a while.

Be there as soon as it opens(5pm) or you’ll wish you had. This is a steak joint. Be prepared to eat some beef. If beef isn’t your thing, you might want to reconsider. Perhaps I should’ve starved myself before coming here, because I was STUFFED when I finished. But on to the review. You choose what item you want, but you’ll most likely go for the steak main, which gives you your choice of steak, as in ANYSTEAKCUT, and unlimited salad bar(because that’s why we go to steak places, for the unlimited salad bar). I selected a particularly thick sirloin and headed to the chef, requesting my doneness and adding some sautéed mushrooms on the side. And then he gets to cooking your steak, right there, out in the open for everyone to see. While you wait for your steak to cook, you hit up the salad bar, get some sprouts, broccoli, carrots, lime cilantro quinoa(have I lost the fellas yet?) and OMGHERECOMESTHESTEAKSTILLCOOKINGON A SKILLET. I cheated and had a garlic sauce drizzled on mine. Perhaps I should have gotten it done medium(instead of medium-well) because I was expecting more flavor than I got. I typically put some steak sauce on my steak, but I didn’t chance it sitting across the table from a Texan that shoots his own game. All in All, if you’re feeling iron deficient and you’re not against steer, come on down!

I m not a carnivore, so the eye fillet can be my best choice. Good price on the wine list, but glasses were pretty small, sight… I m not good at ate too much meat, but I m so care about how many wine in my glass. Lol, anyway, it’s a great place for having dinner with ur hungry friends, especially male friends. But if with gurls,I think I may suggest another place.

Now Im mixed with this restaurant. If im to review based solely on its name sake, the ‘ANGUSSTEAKHOUSE’ then a 5 out of 5 it will be, BUT, if I am to review the restaurant as a whole, then a 3.8 — 4 star(benefit of the doubt) it will get from me. Atmosphere: A good feel for steak lovers! When you walk in through the door on Fort lane, you literally walk right into the heart of the restaurant, the cooking station. The old barn style décor is your stereotypical look for a steak eating ranger. The grilling station is at the entrance and if you like, you can stand there and watch them cook your steak before your eyes. The way the menu works is that you choose your steak from the steak bar, hand it to the chef and then help yourself to the salad bar. Atmosphere was great but I think a few more adjustments could be made to get the spirits up, maybe more music, dimmed lights, just a bit more I guess. The birthday that happened the night I was there too couldve been celebrated by the restaurant a bit more, Ive been to a steak restaurant where the staff and cooks came out with shakers! they danced and sang and it was great. Lastnight however, it was this very dull ‘happy birthday mate’ and the lights switched off for 5secs. Just a general upbeat feel would be great. 4⁄5 stars. Service: Service was exceptional and the food was dished out at a reasonable speed. The staff as well were very kind and had a relaxed feel about them. The chef manning the grill station was nice to talk to and gave insight on some of the steak and his preference. No complaint here on service. 5⁄5 stars. Food: Ok here is where we get down to the nitty-gritty: I must be one of the only people to have ordered entrees at a steak house! The entrees for me was the real disappointment. I ordered the Seafood basket, fresh oysters(dozen) and salmon(sashimi style). the seafood basket was disappointing because it was quite small for that price, and, the basket items were pieces that were frozen that were thrown into the deepfryer. I also know that the items were pre-made bites that you buy, not freshly made. No points from me here. The oysters, though there were good sizes, were watery to the taste and I could tell straight away that they too were thawed… again, not fresh. Even my sister pointed that out. If you are going to serve oysters, DONOT sell frozen ones! And the salmon, sadly, were not sashimi style, it was the smoked salmon I can buy from the local supermarket and rolled up for presentation. Now to the main — The salad bar was quite limited and the salads really didnt have strong flavors. The salads were quite bland and needed to be heavily seasoned by the customer! I wouldve expected a full blown salad bar, but sadly did not get this. now, for the STEAK! — The steak, you get to choose yourself from a bar they had, and to be quite honest, I was VERY impressed by the variety and definitely the size of these bad boys. They were HUGE! I got the scotch fillet and was cooked medium to rare. It was Glorious. The meat just melted and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned for me. I could taste the flames and the chef cooked our table to perfection. Top points for me. A disappointing note though, they had NOSTEAKSAUCE! just tomato sauce and mustard. No peppercorn, bordelaise, bearnaise, mushroom… nothing. So we resorted just eating steak on its own. boring. Summary: All in all, again, this is a hard one for me. Like i said before, If i am to rate it purely on its steak, it will get a 4.5 stars. I went there for the steak and a good steak I got. However, If I am to rate on the restaurant in general, then sadly, it gets a 3. It seemed to me that all the energies were zoned around the steak and the rest of the menu was neglected. I do however recommend this to steak lovers because the steak is huge, it tastes great and the price is fair. My overall rating is 4 stars.

If you need bargainous meat for dinner, and a lot of it, then this is the place for you! So. Much. Meat. I’ve always wanted to go here after years and years of getting their spam on queen st — and only recently decided to try it out. Seriously, why did we wait so long? You get a plate and then queue up to choose whatever enormous hunk of meat you want and they cook it! I had to fold my meat in half to fit it on the plate! It was cooked perfectly and I actually ate the whole thing, must to the amazement of my husband! They have a salad bar where you can choose whatever you like to go with your hunk o’ meat.

I booked this place for the first stop of my friends bachelor party. I am happy to say that it was not a failure on my part. Great place to go with your mates to just stuff your face full of perfectly cooked steak. You actually get to choose your own steak from a refrigerated display. It can be a difficult toss up between the eye fillet and the scotch fillet, the eye fillet obviously with superior texture and flavor, but the scotch fillet bigger by half. Some of us went for the eye fillet, some of us for the scotch fillet, and the consensus during the meal was that the eye fillet was probably the better choice, you still get a respectable amount of meat and by the time you eat fries and salad it should be enough food — trust me, eye fillet.
