I am a fan of the Wild Bean Cafes that are up and down the country. The coffee is consistently good and very necessary if you have a long drive in front of you. They have these cafes in the UK but the coffee is not near as good as you get in Auckland. As regards the food, I think everybody grabs a pie on the go. They are reasonably priced(I guess it’s an economies of scale thing!) and taste very good. Unlike some of the pies you get in the traditional bakehouses, they are not greasy and you don’t feel really bloated after them. They do vegetarian pies that are also of a high standard — handy when you pull in and have to feed a few people. I got a steak and mushroom pie from the BP in Glendene last weekend and after eating it, I was craving another one — I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing!
