This review is for new Takanini location. If Bruce Lee were alive and well, he’d kungfu chop this place into pieces. We ordered two types of sushi in the high price range and they tasted like leftover sushi from the fridge. The rice was so hard and the tastes were all over the place and didn’t settle well. Everything had chewy texture and hard. Won’t return for sure. The wait wasn’t bad but the staff looked tired.

Spicy Body builder! Service is very fast. I’ve never had to wait longer than 20 mins. Can always call in to order when I’m stuck in traffic from work so I could just pick up. Very convenient :)

Ah Bruce Lee Sushi what a love hate relationship we have! On one hand I hate how you deconstructed sushi into rice lumps and fried stuffing smothered in sauce, but then again what you make is quite delicious. The best way to describe the sushi here, is to call it western style sushi. It is a fusion of flavours and sometimes it doesn’t even look like sushi at all. The kind that macho males who loath the very existance of sushi would enjoy. Take note if you have one of those. Personally I love to eat there from time to time; have a platter taken away for family gatherings(always more popular than when I bring sushi from other places). Each piece is rather large and heavy, so don’t overestimate how much you can eat. Overall you can say the sushi here is filling, saucy and possess some clever combinations. The rating is really between 3 – 4 stars just because I prefer my sushi on the lighter side. As for the franchise making claims that this is healthy food uhmmm I’m pretty sure it isn’t all that. My advice: if you get emotional while eating a fine piece of sushi or know what nodoguro is, then perhaps you should’t eat there!

I only came here because my friend wanted to and I wasn’t impressed. Yes I know I am difficult, I am vegan but Japanese cuisine is one of my favourites, in particular sushi because the vegetarian roll 9⁄10 is vegan. There are a few places that put cream cheese or mayonnaise inside for some unknown reason but as I read the menu at Bruce Lee I came to the conclusion the reason it was so popular was because of the Western type ingredients he had managed to either put in or on top of the sushi. So what was supposed to be a healthy meal has been transformed into fat rice roll. Cream cheese is heavily featured here at Bruce Lee along with other creamy sauces, like a bake sauce, chilli sauce and creamy wasabi sauce. A lot of sauce, a lot of deep fried food and bacon!?! yes bacon in sushi and if that isn’t odd enough breadcrumbs top just about all the sushi options on the menu. I had a plain sushi roll with just vegetables made for me and only ate 4 pieces, the sushi is oversized and it is really just a lot of rice you are getting. So my impression was that if you liked rice and ate a typical kiwi diet then you ‘d probably like Bruce Lee Sushi.

I have only recently been introduced to Bruce Lee Sushi and man oh man is it good! They have a few stores now popping up all over Auckland, but the one I first came to was in Manukau. Here I enjoyed the crazy chicken with cream cheese! I don’t think I have ever had sushi the way Bruce Lee makes it! Sensational! And oh so filling! It’s definitely value for money at Bruce Lee’s. You don’t walk away hungry! I quite like how when you walk into the store there is a massive ‘wall of fame’ on the main wall! Everyone famous who has come into the store has managed to get a photo with Bruce Lee himself. Bruce Lee also has famous New Zealand stars posing with meals on the menu board advertising the dish. It’s great! The atmosphere is very personable. I’ll definitely be coming back to Bruce Lee Sushi as I was very impressed with the entire experience and there are many, many more dishes I’d like to try!

Bruce Lee is, in my opinion, the best place to get sushi in Auckland. They’ve got four locations at the moment, and I frequented the Newmarket branch often, but Manukau is a little closer to home. Their flavours are delicious, filling and great value for money. You can buy ready-made sushi at the counter, but they’ve got a great made-to-order menu which has tonnes of variety and some combinations you may never even have thought of. The best part about the menu is that they make it on the spot so you know it’ll be fresh. The wait is usually about 10 minutes depending on how busy they are, but I can confidently say that its worth it. The Crazy Chicken is probably one of the most popular options available and is has their deliciious creamy bake sauce on top, a guilty pleasure of mine. The Heaven Rolls and the Crunch Roll are in my top 5 although its hard to choose a favourite! They do come in big portions so if you’re like me and rarely finish an entire meal, it could be a good idea to get share with a friend– otherwise they do halves for you if you don’t want a whole portion! Bruce Lee have this great wall of people who have taken photos during their visits, including famous New Zealanders who pop in(Sonny Bill, Manu Vatuvei and mayor Len Brown, who has his own ‘Super City Roll’ to name a few!), so its great to browse over while waiting for your meal. My only gripe with Bruce Lee is that they’re not open long enough! I hope they consider an all-day, everyday scheme at some point.
